00:00what's up family listen you cannot do God's work without God's help is
00:05literally that simple you cannot be godly without God's help and this series
00:12that I'm that was the first lesson in the series is called ghosting it's a
00:16series where I'm literally hopefully I'll put it that way giving people a
00:22biblical reintroduction to the most important asset in your spiritual life
00:26and that is the Holy Spirit so I want you to check this message out I hope it
00:31helps you and as always if it does share it with somebody else take care so great
00:38so grateful to have you with us let's go to the gospel of John chapter 16
00:42beginning at verse number 5 this is Jesus talking Jesus says but now I'm
00:47going to him who sent me none of you asked me where are you going rather you
00:53are filled with grief because I've said these things but very truly I tell you
00:58it is for your good that I'm going away unless I go away the advocate will not
01:07come to you but if I go I will send him to you I want to talk from this subject
01:12in our time together family very simply you've been ghosted clap your hands at
01:19every location if you're ready for God's Word you've been ghosted I want to leap
01:27into this lesson today by informing some and reminding others that out of all the
01:34words that the Bible uses to describe the believer listen to me normal is not
01:42one of them I have engaged in exploratory research looking at the
01:50books of the law looking at the books of history looking at wisdom literature
01:54looking at major prophets looking at minor prophets looking at the Gospels
02:00looking at the book of Acts looking at the congregational epistles look the
02:04pastoral epistles looking at the general epistles looking at the eschatological
02:09book of Revelation and I come to the conclusion that out of all of those
02:13books none of the words used to describe you and me are words that are synonymous
02:19with average the Bible uses words like chosen royal holy salt light ambassador
02:31beloved protected selected elected anointed apple of God's eye more than a
02:37conqueror head not tail above only not beneath lenders not borrowers it uses
02:46these types of words to paint a picture a possibility for you and for me and
02:51these descriptions are not intended to imply that we are not human we are human
02:57these scriptures or these descriptions are intended to imply that God has
03:02called created and commissioned us to be a different type of human I'm a human
03:09but I've been called created and commissioned to be a different type of
03:14human as a matter of fact this was the Apostle Paul's critique to believers in
03:19Corinth in 1st Corinthians chapter 3 verse number 3 when he says to them you
03:24are still worldly for since there is jealousy and quarreling among you are
03:32you not worldly I don't have time to bother that he says are you not acting
03:38as mere humans so he's not saying that they shouldn't be human he's saying
03:46they've been called created and commissioned to be a different type of
03:51human and I want to know am I talking to anybody in the room today that is in a
03:58season where you're ready to embrace your difference come on here yeah this
04:04revelation should cause a revolution in the way that you see yourself you are
04:09not better than but you're called to be different from come on here that that
04:14that you and I are not above others but we should be distinct from others
04:20because all of the words that the scripture uses to describe you and me
04:25are words that indicate distinction and our distinction is not always in our
04:31experience sometimes our distinction is in our outcome it means that we might go
04:36through what everybody else goes through we might wrestle with what everybody
04:41else wrestles with but we don't come out the way everybody else come out I may go
04:46in the fiery furnace like you but I'm gonna come out different I may go in the
04:51Daniels I may go in the lions didn't like you but I'm gonna come out
04:55different come here I may go in the grave like you but three days later I'm
05:00going to come out different I'm not called to be better than I'm called to
05:06be different from and I want to know am I talking to anybody in this room who
05:13has an appetite for the extraordinary in the kingdom we are unapologetic about
05:20being extra when we say extra in the kingdom we don't mean extreme when we
05:25say extra in the kingdom we don't mean greedy extra doesn't mean extreme extra
05:31means more than what's typical and so I want to ask you again am I talking to
05:37anybody who has an appetite for extra for more than what is typical am I
05:44talking to anybody that's dreaming extraordinary dreams carrying an
05:49extraordinary vision praying extraordinary prayers I don't have an
05:57ordinary God so I don't have an ordinary expectation and if I'm talking to
06:05anybody who has an appetite for extra then there's something that I saw in
06:09this scripture in John 16 that I need to share with you do I have your permission
06:14to share it with you do you want me to share it with you are you ready for me
06:19to share it with you are you ready for me to share it with you now here it is
06:24for my note-takers here's the sticky statement your ability to experience
06:28extra is tied to your willingness to be ghosted come on ATL New Jersey global
06:38someone talk back I said your ability to experience extra is tied to your
06:43willingness to be ghosted and for those that are unclear the word ghosted is a
06:48cultural colloquialism that describes the act of going absent without an
06:54explanation you just stop returning text you just stop returning calls you
07:02just stop showing up and some of us can teach a master class a webinar and a
07:07seminar on how to ghost you good at ghosting but when many of us experience
07:16ghosting or facilitate ghosting it's done with people I was reading John 16
07:23and I see something else I see people who are struggling with the idea of
07:29being ghosted by God and before you judge them for what you see in the text
07:36I want you to see yourself in them because truth be told if many of us
07:40will be honest we will have to admit there are some seasons some situations
07:44and some circumstances where we like God I know you here but it doesn't look like
07:49it God I know you here but it doesn't feel like it God I know you here but I'm
07:56waiting for you to show up is there anybody honest enough to admit that you
08:01felt like Christ on the cross from time to time where you said my God my God why
08:07has thou forsaken me yep yep this this this this is interesting John 16 family
08:18contains what's called the farewell discourse this is a continuation of a
08:24conversation that Jesus had at the Last Supper in the upper room Judas has left
08:33but Jesus is still ministering to those who stayed I said Judas has left but
08:49Jesus is still ministering to those who stayed he did not let the disappointment
08:56from Judas cause him to stop making investments in those who didn't leave
09:02and we must be careful how we manage our Judas experiences because if not the
09:09Judas in the past will hurt you so bad that you miss the disciples that stayed
09:15in the present some of us are so caught up on the one that left that you're
09:21missing the blessing of the 11 that stayed some of us are so caught up on
09:26the one that walked out our life not realizing that if they were for us they
09:31would not have been able to left to leave us because if you are called to me
09:36you can't leave and if you're not called to me you can't stay
09:42he's not so disappointed in the one who left that he did not properly steward
09:54and appreciate and invest in the ones who stayed what about the friends who
10:01didn't betray you what about the co-workers who want to see you in am I
10:12making sense so so it's a farewell discourse because he's having a
10:17conversation informing them of his death and departure he's saying I'm getting
10:25ready to die and I'm getting ready to depart and this announcement creates
10:32anxiety in the disciples we see this in verse 6 he says to them I told y'all I'm
10:39leaving you didn't ask me where I'm going rather you're just filled with
10:44grief because I said these things he's saying grief has gripped you anxiety has
10:51awakened in you because I've announced that I'm about to go absent and he says
11:00this this this this is interesting he says to them in verse 7 but I need you
11:04to understand something it's for your good that I go away I'm not ghosting you
11:16because it's good for me I'm ghosting you because it's good for you it is in
11:27your best interest listen to me it is in your best it's like Jesus saying it's in
11:32your best interest for me not to give you what you want so I have to willing
11:38to what I have to be willing Jesus had to be willing to watch them be gripped
11:43with grief for a season I have to watch he had to watch them hurt about him
11:53making a decision that he knew would help them but he loved them enough to
12:00watch them hurt temporarily to watch them be in pain short-term so that they
12:07can benefit long-term and let me pause and put a pin right there because Jesus
12:13deals with us in similar ways sometimes we're like God why am I going through
12:19this season and situation that's causing me so much pain and he's like I'm gonna
12:24let you hurt a little bit now so that you can smile a long time later those
12:30who sow in tears will reap in joy I love you enough to let you be temporarily
12:38inconvenienced so that you can be eternally elevated and I want to know am
12:44I talking to anybody at the 1030 that at the whatever service this is I do so
12:50many what time is it it's 1030 we got a 1030 and you and 11 whatever service it
12:57is am I talking to anybody anywhere
13:11that's grateful for in this season what you were crying over in a previous one
13:19am I talking to anybody that's grateful for the prayers let me see if I can get
13:25an amen here that he didn't answer
13:36thank you as st. Augustine says thank you for ignoring the prayers of my lips
13:43so you could answer the desire of my heart God thank you for knowing when to
13:50not listen to me God thank you for knowing that what I wanted wasn't what I
13:55needed and loving me enough to not give me what I wanted so I could have what I
14:02needed he says it's for your good that I'm going away he says he says because
14:15unless I go away the advocate can't come who's the advocate the advocate
14:20he's referring to is the Holy Spirit he's saying I need to ghost you so I can
14:27send the Holy Ghost to you watch this this is interesting it was as if he was
14:33saying you don't want me to leave because you like me but if I don't leave
14:38you can't be like me and he knew it was not just in their best interest to like
14:45him he knew it was in their best interest to be like him because if they
14:50were willing to be like him then they could live like him and if they could
14:54live like him then they could handle things like he handled them so if they
14:59live like him they could handle their storm the way he handled his what did he
15:03do pastor he slept in it he was in a storm but the storm didn't get in him
15:11and the quality of your life is not determined by what you in it's determined
15:16by whether or not you let what you in get in you this is why that old adage is
15:22correct I don't look like what I've been through and I don't look like what I'm
15:27going through some people would be surprised to know what you're in right
15:31now but they but you don't look like what you're experiencing because you are
15:36in it but it's not in you God slept through the storm this is interesting
15:47are y'all following me here this is interesting it was it was like Jesus is
15:51saying hey you see what I'm doing in public but you don't see that it's been
16:02produced by something I have in private that I don't want you to settle for
16:12just liking me I need you to be like me because even the word Christian doesn't
16:19mean liking Christ it means Christ like so I can like Christ but that doesn't
16:32mean I'm Christ like and Jesus is saying you are admiring me but I need you to
16:40emulate me but in order for you to emulate me you got to have what I have
16:46that's producing what you're seeing because everything that Jesus I need you
16:51to hear this now everything that Jesus was and everything that Jesus did was
16:57attributed in the Bible to the work of the Spirit in Jesus he's saying that I
17:07need to leave because you can't be like me with just me because I'm not me with
17:14just me I've got a helper I'm sorry it's too early I've got a helper I've got
17:22assistance I have an x-factor I have someone that is producing what you see
17:31me be and producing what you see me do that everything Jesus was and everything
17:36Jesus did can be attributed to the work of the Spirit here's what the Bible says
17:41I got Bible the Bible says he was born by the Spirit in Luke chapter number one
17:48we get the eavesdrop on a conversation an angel is having with Mary and and the
17:52Bible says he tells Mary that she's gonna give birth to the Messiah and Mary
17:56says how will this be since I'm a virgin the angel answered the Holy Spirit will
18:04come up on you so he was born because of the Spirit but he was not only born
18:10because of the Spirit number two he was baptized in the Spirit the text says
18:15when all the people were baptized Jesus was baptized too as he was praying
18:20heaven was open and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a
18:25dove and a voice said this is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased I don't
18:32have time to bother that but you see he got baptized and the Holy Spirit came up
18:37on him and with the descension of the Holy Spirit came the vocalization of
18:41affirmation God was pleased with him before he even begins his public
18:46ministry when God does this Jesus has not healed one blind eye he's not raised
18:52one person from the dead so he gets the affirmation of the Father before he goes
18:57into ministry so he's not looking for affirmation from the ministry and what
19:03the Holy Spirit does is he so affirms you and helps you embrace your identity
19:09so that you don't end up doing for what you should be doing from when I don't
19:16know who I am I do for when I should be doing from I get married for affirmation
19:22when I should be getting married oh my from a place of affirmation he was born
19:30by the Spirit he was baptized by the Spirit he was full of and led by the
19:35Spirit Luke chapter 4 verse 1 Jesus full of the Holy Spirit returned from the
19:41Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert he was full of the
19:46Spirit and led by the Spirit because you will be led by what you full of
19:53what's leading you that's what you're full of yeah if I'm full of anger I'll
20:00be led by anger if I'm full of jealousy I'll be led by jealousy if I'm full of
20:05competitiveness I'll be led by competitiveness but if I'm full of the
20:09Spirit I'll be led by the Spirit he was born by the Spirit he was baptized by
20:17the Spirit he was full of the Spirit he was led by the Spirit he was anointed by
20:23the Spirit Luke chapter 4 verse 18 it says the Spirit of the Lord is on me
20:28because he has anointed me to preach the good news to the poor I want everybody
20:34at every location including change global to say anointing come on come on
20:40come on now we all I love the spiritual diversity in the room we all come from
20:45different spiritual backgrounds but for the next eight seconds we're about to be
20:51Pentecostal okay every I know some of you grew up Baptist and Methodist and
20:55non-denominational but for the next eight seconds everybody's Pentecostal
20:59then you can go back to being what you were say it like you feel it say
21:04anointing don't do it Tario some people know some you can't do that with some of
21:15us we start feeling something shifting and quickening and shaking and moving
21:25don't you do that the anointing is the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit
21:36that enables you and me to be uniquely effective and what he's called us to do
21:42did you hear what I just said it is the Holy Spirit helping you and me be
21:47uniquely effective as something that he's called us to do it is the Holy
21:52Spirit enabling and empowering you and me to be uniquely effective at what he's
21:59called us to do so he only anoints us where we've been assigned so when I step
22:06outside of responsibility that God has not assigned to me then I step outside
22:12of what the Bible calls his anointing for me this is why I don't feel
22:18restricted in my lane I feel protected in my lane I'm gonna stay in my lane I
22:25love my lane I'm proud of my lane I'm not apologizing for my lane because my
22:31is oily and as long as I stay on my lane I must stay in the oil and the oil will
22:39do what my natural gifts and my talents and my ability won't do see I can have a
22:49gift but that doesn't mean that gift is anointed to do everything so when I
22:57work my gift I work but when God anoints that gift to do a thing God works when I
23:04start working did you hear what I just said so when I work my gift I'm working
23:10but when God anoints the gift when when I start working the gift God starts
23:16working with me it's in Acts chapter 10 the Bible says while Peter was still
23:21speaking these words the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message when
23:26Peter started working God started working when Peter started talking God
23:30started moving and that's what happens when there is the anointing and the
23:36anointing is for everything God assigned you to do I don't even have time I just
23:42I need more time I need more time I need more time because it is not just for
23:47activity in the context of a church wherever you have been assigned the Holy
23:53Spirit can make you uniquely effective when you're negotiating a deal I'm
23:59anointed to negotiate for the common good come on when I'm parenting Lord I'm
24:08getting ready to have a tough conversation with my child and as I go
24:13in this bedroom I don't want to go in this bedroom without you going with me I
24:18don't want to go in this bedroom and simply use natural words and human
24:23persuasion when I start talking I need you to start working when I start
24:27speaking to their head I need you to start talking to their heart I need you
24:31to break up the fallow ground of their heart and make them receptive to what
24:35I'm getting ready to say I need
24:42okay for the next three seconds everybody's been a costly again then
24:46we're going back to what you were somebody say I need some oil everybody's
24:52praying for money and people are praying for opportunity and people are
24:56pursuing God
25:02I need some oil I need some oil I need some oil I need some oil don't let me
25:10preach without oil don't let me parent without oil don't let me sing without
25:14oil don't let me raise my children without oil don't let me run this
25:18business without oil when I sit down in the boardroom chair I want to slide in
25:23the oil in the chair I need oil we got to go
25:40he was he was he was born by the Spirit he was baptized by the Spirit he
25:46was full of the Spirit and led by the Spirit he was anointed by the Spirit
25:51acts 1 2 he gave instruction through the Spirit Romans 8 11 he was even
25:56resurrected by the Spirit he didn't resurrect himself the Bible says and the
26:03Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is a living in you so if Jesus had
26:16to be born by the Spirit baptized by the Spirit full of and led by the Spirit
26:23anointed by the Spirit gave instruction through the Spirit and was resurrected
26:29by the Spirit what makes us think and we're trying to be like Jesus that we
26:37can be like Jesus without having what Jesus had
26:47and when we don't get this revelation at some point in your Christian journey I'm
26:53not sorry at some point in your Christian journey you end up with
26:57spiritual frustration and stagnation because the newness of your relationship
27:04with God and the zeal attached to that is seasonal in the infancy stages of
27:15your walk with God there's so much intimacy there's zeal now the zeals not
27:25anchored in knowledge yet this is why some people need to slow down speaking
27:29so fast you're not anchored enough yet
27:38but that zeal without a revelation of what I'm getting ready to share that
27:45zeal that's not anchored in knowledge become seasonal and people hit these
27:51spiritual plateaus and spiritual mundane this mundane this and godliness oxymoron
28:01that doesn't even go together a mundane relationship with a supernatural God but
28:12without this understanding of the role that the Spirit plays we will be as
28:17those that Paul speaks about in first Timothy 3 verse 5 he says who have a
28:22form of godliness but but denying its power people who have religious
28:31convictions they are unable to actually execute on because you're unable to do
28:37it in your own human strength so you live in the constant tension of having a
28:43spiritual standard that convicts you that you're never able to reach
28:52because we need God's help to execute God's commands and so this means we've
29:01got to lean into what empowered and enabled Jesus to be who he was so that
29:08we can do more than like him but so that we can be like him so that we can have
29:12more than spiritual stagnation so that we can have constant and consistent and
29:17increasing spiritual vitality pastor how do we do this three things real quick
29:24and we'll wrap up number one the first way we do this is we got to understand
29:28him and this is where over the next several weeks I'm gonna ask for your
29:34patience and I'm gonna ask for humility on your part and openness because the
29:40enemy operates in the arena of ignorance and ignorance isn't just the absence of
29:44information it's the absence of accurate information and it's not just people are
29:48uninformed they're misinformed and when it comes to the Holy Spirit maybe maybe
29:53there are aspects of of him that we have not understood at all or we have
29:59not understood properly and as a result of that we are under utilizing him come
30:04on talk to me family you cannot properly under if there is not some healthy
30:09understanding of the Trinity you do not accurately understand the Holy Spirit
30:13because he can only be understood in the context of the Trinity now the Bible
30:17says you will never understand the Trinity fully the Bible calls the God
30:21head the Trinity a mystery one God co eternally existing in three not separate
30:30but distinct persons father son and Holy Spirit and no human analogy
30:38adequately articulates the reality of the Trinity but if I don't understand
30:43the Trinity in function so so so let's stop trying to understand it in essence
30:50how does that happen no in function the father creates and predestines in
30:58function the son saves and redeems and in function the Holy Spirit empowers
31:08y'all are not in function the father creates and predestines the son saves
31:19and redeems and the father and the Holy Spirit empowers us to do what the father
31:25created us to do and the son saved us to do so the Holy Spirit Lord I'm sorry
31:35the Holy Spirit is not just the Spirit of God it is God the Spirit that dwells
31:46in the believer upon salvation are you hearing me that dwells inside the
31:59believer upon salvation as a person not a it Jesus calls him a he not a it so
32:10he's a person who wants to give us perspective he's a person who wants to
32:15give us promptings he's a person who wants to give us direction he's a person
32:20who wants to give us development or perfection he's a person that wants to
32:24give me power to do what I could not do on my own so his primary Oh Lord Oh Lord
32:36oh my his primary work is seen outside of church I got to go and the evidence
32:48of the infilling not just in dwelling the evidence of that is the fruit of the
32:53Spirit not gifts first Corinthians are you worldly first one three three we
33:02just read that right he said you still worldly did he say that he said you're
33:06behaving like mere humans did he say that is that the Bible that was the most
33:10charismatic church in the New Testament read it they spoke in the most tongues
33:15they had the most prophecy they had the most and he tells them you babies which
33:23he says you can speak in tongue but you can't hold it you can't hold your tongue
33:27and holding your tongue is the fruit of this temperance the fruit of the Spirit
33:33is love joy peace kindness gentleness and temperance which is self-control I
33:39can fake speaking in tongues I don't know if that tongue real or not let me
33:44go over here the Bible says Moses go I got to go the Bible says Moses goes
33:49before Pharaoh and he throws his rod down and it turns into a snake then
33:53Pharaoh's magicians come and they throw their rod down and it turned it to a
33:57snake so some of the paranormal stuff can be fabricated you can't fabricate
34:01fruit don't tell me you can speak in tongue hold your tongue when you want to
34:05let it loose that lets me know you've been filled with power
34:11he wants to give you more than a gift Tario we gotta go we really gotta go I
34:25got to understand them number two I gotta embrace him see what does it mean
34:34it means I got to remove resistance to what God wants to teach me about the
34:39Holy Spirit because of stuff I've seen in others that make me not want it
34:47because I know I grew up in stuff what happened in church they'd be like they
34:51caught the Holy Ghost I'm like he's never gonna catch me I don't want that
35:00you know what I mean I feel like wow she's about to hurt herself I don't want
35:06that is this too honest maybe maybe another
35:09second yeah it's like I don't I don't want that what is that Wow and my
35:15problem is I've always been a very logical and analytical person so I
35:19wouldn't say everything but I would be thinking it so some of you what you're
35:29resisting is not the Holy Spirit as he wants to reveal himself to you in the
35:33Bible you're resisting what people have called him you're resisting what you've
35:38seen that people have blamed on him and it wasn't him what people have
35:43attributed to him and it wasn't him and last but not least I got to embrace I
35:49got to understand I got him embrace him and then I got to unleash him the Bible
35:53says don't quench him that doesn't mean Lord have mercy but the point is it
36:00means the word quench means suffocate don't throw a blanket over the fire of
36:05the spirits work in your life so when there are promptings when he's prompting
36:09you do something don't quench that when he's convicting you change this fix this
36:13repent over this don't quench that when he is when he when he wants to to lead
36:19you to use a spiritual gift he's saying hey don't put your ego in front of your
36:23usage are you willing to risk being wrong and seeing the wrong way to help
36:28somebody so if I say call and ask them how they're doing just call and ask them
36:33how they're doing and don't feel sad if they say fine don't quench the spirit
36:44this is personal to me I got baptized when I was six I didn't know everything
36:50I knew enough to knew I needed God and I could have access to him because of
36:55Jesus I started reading my Bible consistently about 15 I was reading it
37:00almost every day it was uh we went on a vacation somewhere and back in those
37:06days they would put Gideon Bibles in a nightstand I just decided to take that
37:10one on home with me
37:19reading it when I was 15 years old we've been the locker room before basketball
37:23games I would have my Bible open I was serious about the father committed and
37:29dedicated but after a while my walk with him seemed very tedious felt like a
37:36grind felt like duty and not delight there are areas that I wanted to change
37:41I just couldn't change so I would have to live with condemnation or lower a
37:46spiritual standard and then when I was 19 years old sophomore at school Pastor
37:51Marcus Dudley and I who's a congregational care pastor at our Atlanta location he
37:57called me one day he said hey I met this guy man's talking some crazy stuff about
38:01the Bible I want you to come see what he talking about I grew up Baptist Pastor
38:06Dudley grew up Methodist and this guy sat us down and he discipled to say hey
38:11you say you love Jesus yeah I'm about Jesus the cross early Sunday morning he
38:17got up early you keep talking about Jesus but you're not talking about what
38:22Jesus talked about let me show you what he's talking about he kept talking about
38:28the Spirit he kept talking about the Spirit he kept talking about the Spirit
38:31and so God used him to open my eyes to see I had what I was under utilizing that
38:41I was that he was dwelling in me but I'm seeing all of this stuff like what Paul
38:46says be filled I'm like what in that automatic if I got him it's like yeah I
38:51got him but the infilling of the Spirit is not how much of the Spirit you have
38:54it is how much of the Spirit has you so because he was in me there was still
39:01areas of my life that were unsurrendered that he didn't have access to so if my
39:05life is a house I had him in rooms but not every room and every time I opened
39:11the door that I had closed off to him he filled that door and he filled that room
39:15and I begin to see I need this experience and I want it and one Friday
39:22night I was at a church called the liberal Trinity Church of God in Christ
39:26in Jackson Mississippi and they didn't call it praise and worship it was called
39:31praise service that's popcorn praise and worship what that means somebody in
39:35audience just pop up start singing I'm a soldier and it's boom it's up and I
39:48was in worship and something happened to me and it was more than mere emotion it
39:53wasn't some cathartic release I felt something that wasn't emotional it was
39:57spiritual I felt something overwhelming consume me and ever since that night my
40:05walk with God has been significantly different my love for him has increased
40:13more and more I started knowing things about people sometimes that I I wouldn't
40:19know it was because of this I got introduced to a God I was under
40:27utilizing I had him in my house but I didn't let him fill every room and when
40:37I unlocked those doors and unleashed him he changed my life
40:44and he wants to do that for us he's gonna do that for us over the course of
