00:00 Today in the Joondalup Magistrates Court, 37-year-old Silving Tam pleaded guilty to
00:05 one count of endangering the life, health or safety of another person and one count
00:11 of stealing.
00:12 On January 13th this year, passers-by noticed Tam's client, Jeff Doe, in distress in the
00:17 back of a car parked at Lakeside Shopping Centre in Joondalup.
00:20 Now police broke in and rescued Mr Doe, who had been strapped into the back with a seatbelt
00:25 with the back windows done up.
00:27 He was taken to hospital for treatment and recovered okay, but his family were concerned
00:31 that if he'd been left there longer, the health outcome for Jeff could have been far worse.
00:36 Outside court today, Mr Doe's brother Harry welcomed the plea from Tam, but said his family
00:41 was still trying to deal with the fallout of what happened.
00:44 It's definitely really difficult to deal with because it's so hard to see someone that you've
00:49 trusted for so long in this light.
00:51 The more you do it, obviously the more risk you're putting yourself at being caught and
00:56 just don't forget at the end of the day, you are doing the job to advocate for a person
01:02 that might be disabled or needs help.
01:04 So it's important to remember what you're doing the job for and that you will be caught
01:11 one day if you do choose to keep exploiting the situation.
01:16 Tam could face up to seven years in jail.
01:19 The magistrate has ordered a pre-sentencing report and he's due to reappear again next
01:23 Friday.
