Transcript
00:00So, can you tell me a bit about what you have here at the show this year?
00:02So, as you know, the British Heart Foundation is fundamentally a research charity, so we're
00:08here presenting to people a range of our activities related to all that, and fundamental of course
00:14to it is raising money.
00:16So, as you can see, we're selling some stock, we have seven shops across Northern Ireland
00:21and we're also encouraging people to think about bringing stock, that is clothes and
00:27stuff that's in their wardrobe, so just bring it to those shops across Northern Ireland.
00:32And we're also asking people to think about, could you volunteer for British Heart Foundation
00:37in some way or another, in our shops or potentially fundraising for us in your community?
00:44Anybody that's interested in doing that Virgil, how do they get in touch if they would like
00:48to volunteer?
00:49Yeah, there's no difficulty, just go onto our website bhfni, you'll find contact numbers
00:54for our staff in Northern Ireland and our fundraising manager Orla will be more than
01:00happy to hear from you.
01:03We also have a unique tool here that we're emphasising at the Balmoral Show and it's
01:11called Reviver.
01:12You'll be aware of the story of that guy that dropped at the Belfast Marathon and fortunately
01:20a defib was brought to him and people were able to do CPR on him and he has survived
01:29and that is great news.
01:33But the more people that know how to do the interventions that happened around that incident,
01:39the better and that's what we're emphasising today.
01:41We have a tool that can teach people in 15 minutes the nature of an emergency call, how
01:47to do CPR and how to work a defibrillator.
01:50We provide people with a unique QR code that can download the app and learn how to do CPR
01:58and give themselves the confidence to intervene if an incident occurred.
02:04And to back all that up, on Saturday at this event we're doing our first public training
02:09exercise with visitors to the show where we'll teach them along with the UFU President and
02:15other high profile people just how to do CPR using that tool.
02:19And what time is that going to be at on Saturday and where should visitors go?
02:23The event is in the Sheep Shearing Pavilion, there won't be any sheep there at that time
02:29and it'll be at 4pm on Saturday and we just encourage people to come along.
02:34It'll be a great event and emphasise the fact that in the event of a really tragic potential
02:42incident you can have the power to intervene and save a life.
02:48And as well people can donate to the charity at the show, there's buckets here.
02:53None of what we do is possible without the support and finance from you, the public.
03:01We have buckets here, we have stock here in terms of selling product but yes, if you've
03:08got funds and you support our mission, as many, many people do, then please donate to
03:16British Heart Foundation here at Balmoral Show.
03:18Thank you to the Health Minister who has been very, very supportive of us in the past.
03:23He knows the profile of heart disease in Northern Ireland, 225,000 people here suffer from heart
03:32and circulatory disease and we're emphasising that in a little game that you can participate
03:39in here at the Balmoral Show and enter a leader board to see how much information you know
03:45about the extent of heart and circulatory disease here.
