00:00 Hello, following a fine weekend for many of us. Monday has been very mixed across the
00:05 country. We've kept the warm sunshine in the east, but in the west we've had this band
00:09 of rain moving in and that's been slow moving. It's brought heavy and persistent wet weather
00:14 to much of Northern Ireland, Wales and the south-west and overnight it moves into Scotland,
00:19 northern and central England and eventually it turns things more cloudy into the east
00:24 of England with a few spots of rain by dawn. But the north-east of Scotland stays clear
00:28 of it and towards the west, well things do clear up here as well, albeit with some blustery
00:34 showers moving into Devon and Cornwall by the end of the night. We do get some clear
00:38 spells out of the wind in the west, temperatures will dip into the single figures, but otherwise
00:43 we're looking at 12-15 Celsius by dawn. And a dreary start to the day, certainly compared
00:49 with the last few mornings for much of the Midlands, eastern and northern England, southern
00:54 and central Scotland. Those outbreaks of rain continue for much of the morning, although
00:58 the rain band becomes more fragmented into the afternoon, so more on and off rain I think
01:03 for Scotland, for eastern England. And further west, skies brighten following the morning
01:09 and there'll be some sunny spells, but some big towering cumulus clouds or even in the
01:15 south-west some cumulonimbus clouds will develop. So sharp showers here and there moving through,
01:20 but where these showers occur could be some heavy downpours, even the odd rumble of thunder
01:25 as well. North-east Scotland keeps the warm sunny spells for the time being, albeit around
01:31 beaches I think, still a cool onshore flow. But somewhere in the north of the mainland
01:36 of Scotland where we haven't got the wind coming from the sea, temperatures could pop
01:39 up to 20-23 Celsius, that's the warm spot across the UK on Tuesday afternoon. Otherwise
01:46 we're talking about mid to high teens, back closer to average compared with the weekend's
01:51 highs. And there'll be a lot of low cloud and those outbreaks of light rain will make
01:56 it feel considerably cooler than it has felt for the last few days. Here's the low pressure
02:02 that's bringing the rain and the showers and it's really anchoring itself to the south-west
02:07 over the next few days. Indeed it's going to become a persistent area of low pressure
02:13 near the UK. But the main band of rain associated with it, well that eases for a time Tuesday
02:18 evening before I think through Wednesday another pulse of activity appears along it. For many
02:24 places though it's clear spells and a few showers on Tuesday nights. The best of the
02:28 clear spells, Northern Ireland, Southern Scotland, into the Midlands, North Wales for example.
02:34 Showers continue for parts of Pembrokeshire, Cornwall, Devon and those outbreaks of rain
02:39 close to the east coast where there'll be a lot of low cloud actually affecting eastern
02:42 Scotland, eastern England as we wake up on Wednesday. Wednesday starts off once again
02:47 12 or 13 Celsius in many places but where we do have some clear spells overnight and
02:51 some shelter from the breeze, temperatures dipping into the single figures. So some nice
02:56 sunshine to start the day for Northern Ireland, for much of central and western Scotland through
03:00 the Midlands and the south. Cloud will build through the day and showers will develop in
03:06 many places. They're not going to affect everyone but especially for Northern Ireland, Wales
03:11 and the south-west there will be the odd heavy downpour again, the odd rumble of thunder
03:16 towards the south-west. The north-east of Scotland stays dry with sunny spells once
03:21 again but in between we've got this legacy of the old frontal system perhaps hepping
03:26 up later on into east Anglia to give some more persistent rain. A lot of cloud through
03:30 these central areas and some of that low cloud turning to mist around the coasts of the north
03:35 sea making it feel cool but where we do have some sunshine elsewhere, high teens, perhaps
03:40 20 Celsius or so. It's a theme of sunny spells and showers really later in the week and into
03:46 the weekend so yeah there'll be some rain around but there will also be some brighter
03:50 interludes.
