00:00Catalonia holds crucial regional elections in Spain that will test support for the separatist
00:06movement.
00:12Catalonia is holding a crucial regional election on Sunday, the outcome of which will reverberate
00:18in Spain's national politics.
00:20More than 5.7 million voters are eligible to take part in a ballot that will test the
00:25strength of the separatist movement and the policies of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.
00:31Voters will choose lawmakers for the regional parliament based in Barcelona.
00:36Separatists have held the regional government for more than a decade, but recent polling
00:40has shown that support for the separatist movement has shrunk.
00:44Its lack of popularity could be due to the former regional president, Carles Puigdemont,
00:49who led a futile breakaway campaign in 2017.
00:53Puigdemont is a fugitive in France since he fled the country, but is running in this
00:57election from southern France.
01:00He is currently under investigation from terrorism, but is hoping to be granted amnesty under
01:05Prime Minister Sánchez's new policies.
01:12Russian authorities have said an apartment block in the border city of Belgorod has collapsed
01:17after Ukraine shelled it.
01:20Seven people were reported dead and 15 injured after a section of the multi-storey apartment
01:26block partially collapsed.
01:29Ukraine has yet to comment on the incident and rarely comments on any attack it carries
01:33out on Russia.
01:36The Belgorod region, on Russia's western border, has been the target of a large number of strikes.
01:47Switzerland has won this year's Eurovision Song Contest.
01:51Nemo took the coveted glass microphone with the song The Code, an ode to the singer's
01:56journey towards embracing a non-binary identity.
02:15There was opposition to Israel's participation because of the ongoing war in Gaza.
02:21But the country's entrant, Eden Golan, said it was an honour to appear.
02:27The contest was also marked by mass protests in support of Palestine, with as many as 10,000
02:33said to have taken part.
02:36This is Switzerland's third Eurovision win overall and first since 1988.
02:46Thousands of people have been marching through the streets of Tbilisi this weekend in protest
02:50at a newly proposed law on foreign influence.
02:54If it's adopted, it will require media outlets and any organisations that receive more than
03:0120 per cent of their budget from overseas to be registered as working in the interests
03:06of foreign countries.
03:08The opposition has denounced the bill as the Russian law.
03:12Moscow has been using similar legislation against any independent news media and organisations
03:17that are critical of Vladimir Putin's government.
03:20This march was held on Saturday, which was Europe Day.
03:24Many of the protesters fear the bill will push Georgia towards Russia's sphere of influence,
03:29meaning that the path to joining the EU will be blocked.
03:32But the ruling Georgian Dream Party says the bill is necessary to stop harmful foreign
03:37influences and prevent foreign actors destabilising the country.
03:47Israeli police pushed an anti-government demonstration in Tel Aviv away from a main traffic junction
03:53using water cannons and arresting some of the protesters.
03:58The protesters continue to demand that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should resign,
04:03but not before he has signed up to a deal with Hamas to secure the release of the hostages.
04:10There are believed to be about 132 hostages in Gaza, but it's not clear whether some may
04:15have died in the midst of the war.
