00:02 - Welcome to Mojo Plays.
00:09 And today we're counting down our picks
00:11 for the 10 best linear game experiences
00:14 to enjoy right now on PlayStation 5.
00:17 - Um, Sackboy.
00:18 I said the brave, bold, heroic Sackboy.
00:25 - Before we begin, we publish new content all week long.
00:28 So be sure to subscribe and ring the bell
00:30 to be notified about our latest videos.
00:32 Resident Evil 4 Remake.
00:36 - I'm taking delivery, preparing some entertainment for you.
00:42 Ah, the entertainment.
00:43 Without further ado.
00:45 - Oftentimes, survival horror games make for some
00:48 of the best guided linear experiences.
00:50 This is due to the fact that many scary moments
00:53 need to be heavily scripted in order to ensure players
00:56 are focused on what's to come.
00:58 (eerie music)
01:00 In the case of the Resident Evil 4 Remake,
01:06 Capcom took an already stellar horror adventure game
01:09 from 2005 and increased the scope
01:11 while still maintaining the game's beloved characters,
01:14 setting and gameplay.
01:15 By and large, the RE4 Remake is still a point A
01:18 to point B affair, just like the original.
01:20 However, peppered into Leon's terrifying new journey
01:23 are the addition of short side quests from the Merchant,
01:26 quirky shooting galleries, and storage case charms
01:28 to just name a few things.
01:30 These smaller additions ensure the game feels fresh
01:32 and unique while still moving you along its narrative
01:35 in a more linear fashion, splicing intense action encounters
01:38 with memorable and iconic set piece moments.
01:41 (eerie music)
01:44 A Plague Tale Requiem.
01:52 - Everything was so nice and quiet.
01:55 And so I told him that maybe it was over.
02:00 Come on, come.
02:04 - While the first game, A Plague Tale Innocence,
02:06 might be the more linear affair,
02:07 Requiem manages to finally toe the line
02:10 between keeping you on the narrow path
02:11 to the next narrative beat,
02:13 while still interspersing light exploration
02:15 to ensure things don't get stale.
02:17 You once again step into the harrowing shoes
02:19 of sister and brother duo, Amicia and Hugo.
02:22 Picking up after Innocence,
02:23 our central characters must once again explore
02:25 plague-infested lands while searching for answers
02:28 to Hugo's affliction.
02:29 Yes, the one involving hordes and hordes of rats,
02:32 namely the Macula.
02:34 Requiem is a pretty beefy game,
02:35 taking upwards of around 15 to 20 hours
02:38 for a typical playthrough.
02:39 But the game's guided focus ensures you are always treated
02:42 to a new story moment, a new locale,
02:44 or a new gameplay weapon or power for our duo.
02:47 Instead of opting for a gargantuan open-world experience,
02:50 Requiem gives you the freedom to move your way
02:52 through mini zones, either engaging or avoiding enemies,
02:55 while always keeping a brisk narrative pace.
02:58 - For Amicia and Hugo, the road ahead will test the limits
03:03 of what they can endure on all levels,
03:06 and just how far they're willing to go.
03:08 - Dead Space Remake.
03:10 - What have you got, Isaac?
03:14 - Half the Ishamuros in the red.
03:16 Engines, hull, the tramps.
03:18 - Can you handle it alone?
03:20 - To be completely honest,
03:21 the Dead Space Remake didn't really need to do much
03:24 to invest players into its necromorph-ridden world.
03:26 The original game from 2008 was, and still is,
03:29 a masterclass in linear, guided, and focused sci-fi horror.
03:33 This remake knows exactly what it wants to be,
03:36 a lovingly crafted return to form
03:38 with highly immersive visual fidelity,
03:40 more nuanced exploration and enemy encounters,
03:42 and just enough tweaks to the game's pacing
03:44 to keep seasoned Dead Space fans
03:46 guessing around every corner.
03:48 Isaac Clarke is back at it once again,
03:50 this time fully voiced.
03:51 Now, playing through this remake,
03:52 even if you've played the original game,
03:54 it really just feels completely fresh and new.
03:56 Walking the dimly lit and blood-covered halls
03:59 of the USGS Ishimura never gets old,
04:01 mostly down to impeccable sound design
04:03 and near-perfect lighting.
04:05 What really sets this game apart
04:06 from its similar horror brethren
04:08 is in the way navigation works.
04:10 Just like in the original game,
04:11 you can opt to just go your own way,
04:13 exploring and surviving,
04:14 until you get to the next segment or chapter.
04:17 Or, for those who want a bit more guidance and linearity,
04:19 you can use Isaac's handy guidance tracker beam thing
04:23 that tells you exactly where to move to next.
04:25 It's such a simple navigational tool
04:27 that makes all the difference
04:28 depending on the type of player you are.
04:30 - Isaac, it's me.
04:32 It's all falling apart here.
04:35 I can't believe what's happening.
04:37 - Ratchet and Clank rift apart.
04:40 - Doctor Nefarious, this is the part where you lose.
04:45 (Ratchet grunts)
04:48 - No, Ratchet, the dimension ain't her.
04:50 - Ratchet and Clank rift apart
04:52 is the pure epitome of fun on the PS5.
04:54 Apart from being a showstopper
04:56 for the console's raw power and speed,
04:58 rift apart is also the type of game
05:00 that allows you to tackle the experience as you see fit.
05:03 You see, this game is broken up
05:04 into highly explorable zones,
05:06 each of which provides robust platforming sections,
05:09 tantalizing secrets, and engaging side quests,
05:11 all on top of some of the best
05:13 third-person action combat around.
05:15 Whether you are playing as Ratchet
05:16 or newcomer Lombax Rivet, or Clank in some puzzle sections,
05:20 you can keep to the linear path
05:21 to just get to a new world or central narrative beat,
05:24 or you can mix in some of the aforementioned things
05:27 to acquire new upgrades and weapons
05:29 for a more well-rounded experience.
05:31 It's really just entirely up to you.
05:33 Rift Apart just wants you to have a delightful
05:35 and energetic time while you move through
05:37 its cartoony sci-fi story.
05:39 - How do I steer this thing?
05:42 - Ask nicely.
05:44 - Slow down, please.
05:46 - It's not listening!
05:47 - The Last of Us Part I.
05:51 Intense character-driven adventure?
05:58 Check.
05:59 Finely-tuned world-building?
06:00 Check.
06:01 Intense and harrowing post-apocalyptic setting?
06:03 Check.
06:04 Brutal in-your-face combat encounters?
06:06 Yeah, also check.
06:08 The Last of Us Part I is a stalwart
06:10 in the third-person action adventure genre,
06:12 plus a good dose of survival horror
06:14 is thrown in for good measure.
06:15 Joel and Ellie's harrowing journey
06:17 has rightfully received plenty of acclaim,
06:19 mostly down to the game's writing and character-building.
06:22 But this game also earns its place here
06:24 because it genuinely knows how to keep the player
06:26 progressing forward at all times,
06:27 with little filler or fluff to get you stuck.
06:30 Sure, the crafting and gunplay
06:32 might not always be a home run.
06:33 However, it's the way in which this remake
06:35 constantly changes up what's going on
06:38 that ensures you are invested at all times
06:40 until the somber conclusion.
06:42 - What are you so afraid of?
06:43 (gunshots)
06:45 - No!
06:49 - Evil West.
06:55 - Beasts and bloodthirsty creatures lurk in the shadows
06:59 in this twisted vision of the Old West.
07:01 - Okay.
07:02 - Evil West deserves so much more attention and love,
07:05 given that it's easily one of the best
07:07 linear-focused AA games on the PS5,
07:10 one that harkens back to the golden era of the PS2,
07:13 when publishers weren't afraid
07:14 to greenlight bizarre and wacky ideas.
07:17 So what do you get when you combine vampires,
07:19 supernatural shenanigans,
07:20 electricity-based weapons and abilities,
07:22 and a Wild West setting?
07:24 Well, yeah, you probably guessed it.
07:25 You, of course, get Evil West.
07:27 Now, if you want a delightfully frenetic
07:29 and devilishly fun action game
07:31 that utilizes God of War-style melee combat,
07:33 Devil May Cry-esque combos,
07:35 and some good old-fashioned Western gunslinging goodness,
07:38 then you owe it to yourself to hop into this game
07:40 as soon as possible.
07:41 - Infuse weapons with the power of lightning,
07:44 or supercharge your gauntlet
07:45 to unleash an endless ballet of dazzling punches.
07:48 (man grunting)
07:50 - The story is wacky and filled with weird West madcaps.
07:53 The stages are all varied and highly creative,
07:55 and the gameplay consistently gets better
07:57 the more you play the game.
07:59 Seriously, just go play this game right now
08:01 if you are fixing for a straightforward,
08:03 linear vampire Western game
08:04 that you can easily wrap up in under 10 hours.
08:07 - The world of Evil West is full of mysteries to uncover,
08:11 and colossal foes to take on.
08:15 - Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.
08:17 - Gardeners of the Galaxy?
08:19 - What? No, rock it.
08:21 - So I let Groot fill out the paperwork.
08:23 - It's a real shame that many Marvel fans were put off
08:26 from venturing into Guardians of the Galaxy,
08:29 given the, you know, abysmal tire fire
08:31 that was Marvel's Avengers.
08:32 Rightfully so, people were scared
08:34 to jump into a new Marvel game
08:35 that strangely didn't have much marketing.
08:37 But for those who took the plunge
08:39 into 2021's Guardians of the Galaxy,
08:41 they were treated to a royal feast
08:43 of creative gameplay ideas,
08:44 a thought-provoking and genuinely emotion-filled story,
08:47 and plenty of wacky superhero moments,
08:49 on top of memorable music and art direction.
08:52 Guardians of the Galaxy takes everyone's
08:54 favorite goofy heroes and thrusts them into a new story
08:57 where they unfortunately set off a sci-fi catastrophe
09:00 in motion during an attempt
09:02 to help a specifically odd collector.
09:04 It's a perfectly over-the-top cartoon-like story
09:07 that melds nicely with third-person action combat gameplay
09:10 and some strategic character guide moments
09:12 that never outstays its welcome.
09:14 (dramatic music)
09:17 Astro's Playroom.
09:21 (upbeat music)
09:23 Yep, this PS5 pack-in game also just so happens
09:33 to be one of the very best linear games on the console.
09:36 For the uninitiated,
09:37 Astro's Playroom is a whimsical 3D platformer
09:40 that sees you controlling the titular Astro
09:42 through a bevy of highly creative and ingenious levels.
09:45 These levels and worlds are meant to showcase the PS5,
09:48 from the DualSense controller's tactile nature

09:53 (upbeat music)
09:55 But above and beyond all of that,
09:59 Astro's Playroom is just a downright enjoyable
10:01 platforming adventure game, with some tight controls,
10:04 superb level design, enticing collectibles,
10:06 and gameplay innovation around every cyber-soaked corner.
10:09 While you can play the worlds in any order you choose,
10:12 it's still a point A to point B platformer
10:14 that encourages you to interact
10:16 with Astro's impeccable suite of platforming abilities.
10:19 (upbeat music)

10:39 this time around we have the endlessly lovable
10:41 Sackboy, A Big Adventure from 2020.
10:44 This solo or co-op platforming game
10:45 sees you team up with the eponymous
10:47 little big planet star, Sackboy.
10:49 He and his pals are off on a grand adventure,
10:51 one that sees them leave the comfort of Craftworld
10:54 in the hopes of stopping the dastardly Vex
10:56 and his topsy-turver.
10:58 Sackboy and friends must collect plentiful Dreamer orbs
11:00 in order to progress further into the game's many worlds,
11:03 stages, and bonus areas.
11:05 The sheer playfulness of this game's platform mechanics,
11:07 especially in co-op, are so sublime
11:10 that you'll want to engage with every ounce of content
11:12 the game is dripping with.
11:14 No two stages are the same in this game,
11:15 with some having you explore every nook and cranny,
11:18 to others having you outrun a baddie,
11:20 to others still blending music and rhythm to great success.
11:23 It truly is a big adventure,
11:25 one that keeps you progressing
11:26 while sprinkling in just enough bonus goodies
11:29 to make every moment worthwhile.
11:31 - All on his way to becoming a knitted knight
11:34 and ridding the world of Vex and his nightmarish terrors.
11:39 - Oh, come on!
11:41 We can do better than that!
11:43 - Stellar Blade.
11:44 - Everyone's happy to call you the angel
11:47 just because you came from the cow.
11:49 - Nobody roams these lands free of suffering.
11:52 - You're leaving to do something important, right?
11:55 - Despite many pre-release marketing trailers
11:57 and a free demo,
11:58 Stellar Blade still managed to fly under the radar
12:01 for many PS5 owners.
12:02 This is especially shocking because Stellar Blade

12:08 that the company is obviously known for.
12:10 Fortunately, PS5 owners are in for a real treat
12:12 with this one.
12:13 Stellar Blade takes some of the best elements
12:15 of the Souls-like genre
12:16 and the character-driven action-adventure genre
12:19 and blends them into an apocalyptic smoothie
12:21 that plays and feels like nothing you've really seen before.
12:24 You step into the swanky shoes of Eve,
12:26 where she and her companions must try to stop
12:29 a terrifying alien race known as the Natibus.
12:32 Having already ravaged much of Earth,
12:34 the Natibus unfortunately end up at the Blade of Eve.
12:37 This is where the game's over-the-top
12:39 and intensely brutal combat comes into play,
12:42 one that provides challenge and fairness in equal measure.
12:45 Stellar Blade is a top-notch experience
