The Sea Shepherd balloon landed in a suburban street. Video by Jessica Brown
Transcript
00:00 Well we've had the Sea Shepherd balloon for around about five to six years now.
00:12 We got commissioned by Sea Shepherd around about five or six years ago and we've just
00:17 been flying the balloon all over in Australia or Newcastle but all over the world and we
00:22 haven't flown it for a while.
00:23 We did a flight in Newcastle probably about three years ago and so we were like perfect
00:28 weather this morning, we got a lovely little drift on the lower winds to get us out into
00:32 the ocean and then a good easterly wind to punch us back inland so that's a perfect flight
00:37 for us.
00:38 So we actually circled back over the beach a couple of times, everyone was loving it
00:42 and then we sort of flew inland and landed at Charlestown.
00:44 And was the plan to land in a suburban street in Charlestown?
00:47 Look this is such a small balloon you need a footprint of about 20 metres by about 20
00:53 metres and that's all you need to land the balloon especially when it's that calm like
00:56 this.
00:57 If it's windier you'd never land in a street but if the balloons are sort of coming straight
01:01 down you can pretty much just place it anywhere.
