Cloudy skies with outbreaks of rain or drizzle affecting southern parts of the UK, tending to drift a little further north whilst showery outbreaks affect the far north of England and Scotland, some becoming heavy in the northeast later. 00:00Hello, welcome to your National Afternoon weather update from the Met Office. It's a
00:04bit of a three-way split in the weather through this afternoon, with a lot of cloud associated
00:09with an area of low pressure across the southern parts of England. This is that area of low
00:13pressure that's showing on the satellite and latest radar imagery, bringing drizzly conditions
00:18compared to what we saw yesterday. And through the rest of the afternoon, this cloud and
00:22rain is going to be continuing to push its way northwards, affecting parts of South Wales
00:26and across southern parts of England as well. But cloudy conditions remain across Northern
00:31Ireland, parts of Scotland as well, with showery outbreaks of rain. Some of these showers could
00:36turn quite heavy at times, possibly thundery across north-eastern parts of Scotland. But
00:41we have got a slither of something a little bit drier and brighter with some sunny breaks
00:46here. And where we see the sunniest breaks, that's where we're going to see the warmest
00:50temperatures with highs of up to 18, possibly even 19 degrees, with temperatures around
00:56average elsewhere in the cloud and rain. So as we go through the latter half of the afternoon
01:03and evening time, that cloud and rain is going to continue to push its way northwards, generally
01:06fizzing laying out to leave a lot of cloud for much of England and Wales. Remaining cloudy
01:13across Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland, still with some heavy outbreaks of rain, especially
01:17across north-eastern parts, perhaps some clearer spells in between. But where we see
01:21the clearest spells, that's where we'll see some mist and fog patches developing. But
01:27there is a lot of cloud around, so temperatures aren't going to be falling too much tonight,
01:31so generally frost free. But like I say, some mist and fog patches to develop first thing
01:37as we go into Bank Holiday Monday. But we have got a few areas to watch, especially
01:41across south-eastern England. We've got this area of rain pushing up from the south, so
01:47we're getting a damper start here with outbreaks of heavy rain at times. Elsewhere, staying
01:51largely cloudy across Northern Ireland, parts of Scotland as well. But in between, we will
01:56see some sunny breaks, but we'll also see some showers breaking out, especially across
02:00parts of the Midlands and also across Wales and down into south-western England. Some
02:06of these showers could still be on the heavy side. But where we do see some sunshine, temperatures
02:11are still above average for the time of year, so we'll be feeling warm with highs of 18,
02:16possibly even 19 degrees across parts of central England. Later on on Monday evening, then
02:23cloud and rain gradually clearing its way southwards across parts of southern England.
02:29Showers generally dying out overnight for most places, but a lot of cloud still remaining,
02:34but hopefully turning a little bit drier and more settled as we go into next week. But
