00:00 Parts of the Midwest are becoming increasingly popular to people tired of dealing with floods, hurricanes, wildfires and droughts.
00:08 It seems like kind of in that Midwest center part of the United States, they're not getting as much of those extreme storms and other things.
00:16 The Environmental Defense Fund released this map showing which states are most vulnerable to climate change.
00:23 States like Florida and Louisiana received the highest scores.
00:27 And so when you launch it, you'll see this map with all these blue colors and the darker the color, the higher the overall vulnerability score,
00:35 meaning that you're more climate vulnerable if you have a darker score.
00:39 And the lighter the color doesn't mean that you are climate vulnerable.
00:42 Just that means that you're ranking lesser than the ones with the darker score.
00:46 States like Wisconsin and Minnesota received the lowest scores.
00:50 The one thing to take note of is that there is not a single state or the District of Columbia that is not climate vulnerable in some way, shape or form.
01:00 So climate is affecting us all.
01:03 However, we do see that the highest ranking census tracts are actually in the south and the southeast.
01:10 This century, over three point two million Americans have moved away from areas at risk of flooding, according to First Street Foundation.
01:18 More than four out of five people surveyed are factoring in climate risks when buying a new home, according to Zillow.
01:25 T. Lewis says if you do move, it's important to understand the hazards you may face in your new location.
01:32 You can take this tool with its hundred and eighty four indicators and try to understand the factors that make a community that something you want to live in.
01:41 Are you moving to an area that's equally as climate vulnerable in a different way?
01:46 For AccuWeather, I'm Emmy Victor.
