00:00Former Youth and Sports Minister Khairi Jamaluddin has expressed eagerness for an upcoming cabinet
00:09paper on the sports industry, saying he expects to be intrigued by its details.
00:15Khairi said the industry's impact goes beyond nurturing top athletes for the international
00:21arena.
00:22We've always seen the sports industry as integral to not just creating world-class
00:29athletes and also a healthy population, but it's something that is very lucrative.
00:35And you can see that through the corporate partnerships and sponsorships that we have
00:40in, that we see in many sports.
00:44And I think it's good that we developed the sports industry again.
00:49Meanwhile, National Sports Council board member S Surya Gandhi expects the paper to
00:53help boost the sports sector, making it a high-value industry.
00:58He said the Youth and Sports Ministry must coordinate with the Finance Ministry to provide
01:03tax breaks and incentives capable of attracting private sector involvement in the industry.
01:10He also stressed the importance of collaboration with the Statistics Department as accurate
01:14data collation would enable the ministry to seek further funding support from the Finance
01:19Ministry.
01:21Another former Youth and Sports Minister, Rizal Marikhan Nainamarikhan, said that the
01:25paper would also benefit those who are involved in supplying sports-related products and services.
