What would American democracy look like in the hands of teenage girls? In this documentary, young female leaders from wildly different backgrounds in Missouri navigate an immersive experiment to build a government from the ground up.

00:28 So I think Girl State, I'm going to run for governor.

00:36 We're never going to get the opportunity
00:38 to talk to people from different parts of Missouri
00:40 the way that we are right now.
00:42 I am a very social person.
00:44 I will talk to a wall.
00:46 Often when women start talking politics, we get shut down.
00:51 But I'm not one to be left on the desk.
00:56 We all have, in our own different ways,
01:00 grown up in a world where we've never seen a female president.
01:04 But how do we change that?
01:07 We step up.
01:09 This is where it all begins.
01:12 We all work very hard on the image of ourselves
01:16 that we want to show to the world.
01:18 It's exhausting.
01:21 I know it's a lot of pressure.

01:23 I'm that same person.
