00:00 A heartbroken mother broke down after relentless harassment by loan sharks, seeking payment
00:07 for her eldest son's alleged debts.
00:11 64-year-old retiree Lim Suk Fun said on Friday that she could no longer bear her son's irresponsible
00:16 behaviour after twice partially paying off his alleged debts, last year and in 2022.
00:22 "My son is 40 years old. All the while he's not been living with me, 10 over years. When
00:31 this started, I did help him to pay some of the money, a total of 30 and 40 respectively.
00:39 It's been five years already I've been retired. I always tell my son, once I retire, don't
00:46 come and give me trouble. My eldest son never give me any money. I just rely on my own retirement
01:01 money. So I always tell him, but I did not know he go and make a mess out of it. I reported
01:08 him back here four times. This year is already two times, just March and April recently one.
01:19 Last year is two times. I told him, but he just ignore. He just don't bother. Now these
01:27 people are pressuring me and every day I don't have a good sleep. I can't sleep. I'm afraid."
01:35 Despite explaining to the Lonsharks that she had no contact with her eldest son, Liu Yongzhi,
01:39 for months, the harassment continued.
01:42 The most recent incident occurred on April 21, when Lonsharks threw red paint at her
01:48 house and neighbouring ones in Taman Intan Baiduri, Gombak, affecting a total of eight
01:53 houses.
01:54 "The next day he called again. 'If you are not going to bother, very good, you are not
01:58 taking my call at all. Very good. I'm going to take the next course of action.' I did
02:05 ask him, 'That day did you throw the paint? You even throw to my neighbour. All my neighbours
02:10 complained to me. Somehow he tell me, 'I'm not going to throw paint. Paint your campaign
02:15 it back. It's easy. I'm going to put fire.'"
02:19 MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Dr Sri Michael Chong said Lonsharks had
02:24 visited Lim's house twice before, handing out flyers about her son around the neighbourhood
02:30 on their first visit.
02:31 "The alum felt that if they throw paint to the house, they will pressurise her to pay.
02:38 That's their motive. They threw the paint. It's not your fault. We want you to help us
02:58 to deal with this family. Because this family owes money to you."
02:59 He added that CCTV camera footage has been forwarded to the police and urged any neighbours
03:03 who haven't already done so to file a report.
