Haircuts during a cricket game are unusual. It's happened maybe once, involving the famous Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar. During a match against England at Old Trafford, Gavaskar, annoyed by his hair falling in his eyes while batting, asked the on-field umpire Dickie Bird for a favour.

Gavaskar requested Bird to trim his hair in front so it wouldn't bother him while facing the deliveries. Bird, who carried scissors for tidying up the ball, didn't mind complying with Gavaskar's request.

While cutting Gavaskar's hair, Bird joked, "The things umpires have to do these days."

As a result, although India lost the Test match, Gavaskar did score a century that day.
