00:00Last day of camp, did it fly, or?
00:02Well, we have one more day tomorrow.
00:04We'll come over and walk through a little bit before the game.
00:06But it went by pretty fast.
00:08I like the camp that we had, though.
00:10I thought guys worked hard.
00:12I think we're a better football team now than when we showed up July 24th.
00:16Just doing the best we can to keep guys healthy and
00:19try to get to week one with the right team.
00:21When you're making some of these decisions in the bottom third of the roster,
00:25how important is versatility, especially on the defensive side of the ball,
00:29Special teams is huge.
00:31If you can play your position, multiple positions, defensive,
00:34if you're a linebacker, can line up in all three spots and play special teams,
00:37that's valuable.
00:38Anthony, has Phil come up to you and asked you about playing on Saturday?
00:43No, he has not.
00:46So the plan will stay the plan.
00:49And the plan is?
00:52Well, you haven't seen him play yet, so I doubt you'll see him on Saturday.
00:56Anthony, what about the rest of the team?
00:58What's your plan for them?
00:59It sounds like they'll be different than the traditional dressing room or
01:03a couple of different styles.
01:04You know, the guys that have been playing all along, those guys are gonna play.
01:08And they may play a little bit longer this game, because it's the third game.
01:12And the guys that I've set out, those guys are gonna set out.
01:16Except for Casey Hayward.
01:17Casey's gonna play a couple of snaps.
01:19So that's what he felt like he needed, so that's what I'm gonna give him.
01:24So Casey was one of the guys that you set out, that you wanted to get out for?
01:28Yeah, yeah.
01:29Any of those guys count to you?
01:32No, no, we had a plan from the get-go with those guys.
01:35And we're gonna stick to the plan.
01:36So, say, Andrew?
01:37Sticking to the plan, yep, yep.
01:41You got Nas back out there, you know, playing with some of the team.
01:43Yeah, it's good to see him back out today.
01:45You know, he made a couple plays, moving around, working him in slowly, though.
01:48Do you think he'll play either Saturday or next week?
01:51I don't know about this week, but
01:54definitely wanna try to get him out there next week.
01:56Coach, what does it mean to have Don Charlamagne back?
01:58He was here a couple of years ago, now he's back with the team.
02:00What does it mean to have him back in the team?
02:04Heck of a guy, young man, but when I was here, he was hurt, so
02:07I never got to see him play.
02:09I saw him play in a playoff game last year, he looked pretty good.
02:11I'm glad to have him.
02:13He's a good looking guy, tall, can run a little bit, and an excellent route runner.
02:17I think he's a guy that can line up across the board in any position.
02:22So that's valuable to us.
02:23I think he's gonna bring some good depth to our receiving corps.
02:25Even though you just got here, do you expect him to play in the center?
02:28Well, you know, he was in the same system in Indianapolis with Nick.
02:31And our system is similar to New England, so the terminology is the same for him.
02:37So he can pick up pretty much where he left off, to be honest.
02:39Was signing him an indication at all of your view of some of the younger guys?
02:45No, it was everything to do with Don Trell and what he's done in this league.
02:48And he's very familiar with our quarterback.
02:50He's been here before.
02:52We just want to get more depth.
02:53What do you think of Don Trell, the fact that his familiarity was filled up in
02:58their conference level, how big of a factor is that of being able to add a guy
03:03like that at this point in the training?
03:07I think it's a good factor.
03:10You know, a veteran guy who's been there and
03:14done it, to come in and compete with some of these younger guys in the next couple
03:18of weeks, I thought it was a good pickup.
03:20Anthony, playing against the Seahawks, they're playing a similar defense to what you guys run.
03:26How does that help you in your evaluation of Cardale and
03:29East to see what they can do against that defense?
03:32Does it help them?
03:34I think it definitely helps the quarterbacks.
03:37You know, they've been seeing, like you say, a lot of the same schemes all training
03:40camps, so they've had a lot of reps, so it's definitely going to help them.
03:43But I like it when they go up against different defenses.
03:46I like to see how they respond to something different,
03:49because that's kind of how the season is.
03:52So we want to keep the best 53 players.
03:59I mean, well, I shouldn't say the best, the right 53 players.
04:02And so Tom and I sit down and we talk about those numbers and we do the best we can.
04:08What's the difference between the best and the right 53 players?
04:11Well, the best 53 is not always the right 53 that you need to build a team.
04:15And chemistry and play together,
04:19a lot of the core values that we believe in here, I think you need the right guys.
04:23Sometimes it's not always the best guys, it's just the right guys.
04:27So that explains it.
04:29Yeah.
