00:00 Okay, good morning everybody. You know what, first just to recap the game, I thought there
00:05 were some good things. We kind of went in there based on our whole game plan was really a
00:09 fundamental game. You know, can we tackle an open space, can we get lined up, assignments,
00:13 things like that. So there's some good showings, there are good basis for where we can build on.
00:18 And then to come out here and practice and get back to that training camp mentality, I think is
00:23 very important. So it's good to see today, came back out, had more situational work, kind of put
00:28 our guys in more difficult positions, training them and you know see how we execute a little
00:33 bit more under fire. We had some good things, you know, I think was starting off with the first
00:40 group, you know guys like Michael Davis, you know he showed in practice and he's showing up. So you
00:45 know the defensive line, Justin Jones really played well. I mean he was in there for a limited
00:49 amount of snaps, but the snaps he was in, kind of what we saw in practice showed up on game tape.
00:54 So those couple guys, just to name a few. Right, we've always had the philosophy that if a guy
01:07 really shows up in practice and works hard and there's a lot of trust with them, we're gonna
01:12 find a role. And we know that teams we play, it's such a, you know, team spread you out and such a
01:17 space orientated game that it's important to have a lot of speed on the field. So he'll definitely
01:23 have a role for us. Yeah, he plays safety, he can play nickel, he can play linebacker. So I mean to
01:30 his credit, I mean I think coaches really trust him, his teammates trust him. You know we just
01:36 mentioned about a week ago, Milo and I and we were walking off the field and we saw him and we're so
01:41 grateful that he's here. He just helps in so many ways, not just his play on the field, but his
01:45 leadership and I think he brings really a sense of calm on the field to our players.
01:49 Anthony specifically mentioned Chris Peace as a guy defensive end that brought some intensity to the field.
01:55 Yeah, he did. I think what Chris Peace's greatest attribute is his effort. I mean he's a real high
02:01 energy, high motor type guy and at that spot that's what you need. You know now his technique
02:07 is starting to come, he's working with Giff quite a bit and Leroy. So you know those are things that
02:11 we need to see, but a lot of times in preseason if you play with great effort you got a chance to
02:16 make a lot of plays. So that's what we need to continue to see from him. Drew Trankle, he had the pick and made some plays in the running game.
02:23 His consistency, you know lines up, takes care of the defense, runs the defense and then you don't
02:29 see many mental errors from him. You know like the interception he got, you know I think he's got real
02:33 good football IQ, really good instincts. So just like the play he made, you know is exactly what
02:38 he needed to do and made a play. So I think we're starting to learn that he's a pretty consistent player.
02:43 How'd you feel like you did in terms of calling the plays and sort of running the show? Was it seamless?
02:47 Yeah, I didn't think there was many glitches. Now we didn't do a lot, you know we didn't do a lot. So
02:52 I think you know we didn't know what we were getting into as far as the tempo of the game
02:56 and the tempo and the speed that they played with. So I thought the game management and things like
03:00 that as far as getting the calls and the communication was pretty sharp.
03:04 What do you see from Anthony in the near last preseason?
03:08 Well again, I think he's shown more consistency but we're asking to see even more.
03:14 But he shows flashes. You saw him in the Ram scrimmage. You know you see him where he's a big man
03:20 who can play that big end for us and he has some rush. We've seen him bring some rush to the table.
03:26 So I think for him, you know with the multitude of calls getting lined up and not having to think
03:32 about the call just playing because he does have a skill set that's very intriguing.
03:36 And then with Jerry, I think we talked about this in the pre-draft process,
03:40 a lot of teams with this uniqueness is off the field so kind of looked at that as being a critique of him.
03:47 But do you guys see that as an option?
03:49 Yeah, I mean the way he works and the way he's been in meetings and walkthrough,
03:53 very detailed. He's a very prideful person. So it's good. I think today was the first day
03:59 because he was involved more where he stood out in like a team situation where you saw flashes of it
04:04 and you're like, "Oh, okay." You know, we just saw a flash of Jerry Tillery. So I think as he gets
04:10 more and more reps, you know, mentally I think he just needs the physical part of it now. You know,
04:15 the lineup and the block reaction and things like that.
04:18 Yeah, because of his length, you know, I think you try to get players that can do multiple things.
04:26 You know, like Isaac Rochelle can play 4B in a pinch. He could play Leo for us. You know,
04:31 I think Tillery's got that attribute as well. A three technique in a pinch 4B, but
04:36 we like him on the edge. Like him on the edge.
04:38 Jatavis Brown's back out there doing a few drills. What have you seen from him?
04:42 We're bringing him back slowly. So, you know, he gets a few reps in seven on seven and just a few
04:46 reps in team, but he had a play, you know, like he never, you know, was off the field at all.
04:51 He stepped right in. It was kind of a challenging route and he played it real nice. So
04:55 his recall is really good. So I think it's just for him. It's getting the reps and
04:59 him gaining the confidence in it.
05:01 That's how big of a promise Javis is.
05:03 Oh, well, I mean, where do you start? I mean, he's such a tremendous leader and it didn't,
05:08 he didn't wait. It didn't like, okay, I'll just kind of learn the defense and understand,
05:13 you know, what they're asking of me and maybe I'll turn it on and training camp that leadership
05:17 part. It was from day one and he's extremely respected, challenges players, holds players
05:23 accountable, you know, and the team is welcoming it with open arms. So, I mean, when you can have
05:30 that from a player, it just, it makes it that much stronger, that ownership, because I think
05:35 everybody buys into it even more than.
05:36 Yeah, he does. You sure don't see it. And I think this scheme, what we're asking him to do
05:44 fits really into his skillset. So, I mean, we're asking him to do a lot now. We're putting a lot
05:49 on his plate. So, you know, but he doesn't blink. It's again, a very prideful person who wants to
05:55 do really well. And I think we're really, you know, not being around him for me, Richard and
06:00 Milo were, but just how fast he's picked up everything on top of his leadership qualities.
06:05 Pretty special.
06:05 Well, I mean, there's people that say, look at combinations. What do you think? And I mean,
06:15 it's hard to compare, but I mean, I'm sure glad he's here now. I'm sure glad he's here. And I
06:20 know the whole team is, it's just, I mean, like I said, I could go on and on just how he is in the
06:25 meetings with that linebacking core, how young it is and what he brings to it. And I think, you know,
06:31 you always try to show players what does it look like? You know, they learn better when they can
06:35 see what it looks like. Well, now they know what it looks like, you know, with him in the room.
06:47 I don't know if he's full, you know, if he is, I think he feels pretty good. I think we're just
06:52 trying to bring him along at a good pace here and, you know, seeing how he handles each day,
06:58 how he's responding. But, you know, when you talk to him, he felt like he was ready a while ago,
07:03 but I think we're just making sure, you know, that we bring him along and his conditioning,
07:07 I think is big too, even though he did it on the other field, it's nothing like getting team reps.
07:16 I think it was just more, as we talked about, as a staff with the number of reps he had in a live
07:21 situation, you know, and then put him in a live situation, the first real live as a game,
07:25 we didn't think that'd be fair to him.
