00:00The Pittsburgh Steelers signed safety Minka Fitzpatrick to a massive contract extension,

00:05which will make him the highest paid safety in the NFL.

00:13Steelers know what are the details of this contract and why is it significant?

00:18Yeah, so Minka locked himself in with the Pittsburgh Steelers through the 2026 season

00:24making about $18.4 million per year.

00:28That makes him the richest safety in NFL history.

00:31The grand total of the deal is four years, roughly $73 million with $36 million guaranteed.

00:40Now there's a couple of things that make that significant for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

00:44For one, before TJ Watt, the Steelers were not into giving guaranteed money past the

00:50first year of a player's contract.

00:52Now they've done that two times in back-to-back seasons with TJ Watt and Minka Fitzpatrick.

00:58And two, this stops the holding.

01:00Minka was on track to participate in training camp, but basically do what TJ Watt did last

01:06year where he worked on the sidelines with coaches.

01:10Now that worked with TJ Watt, but with Minka, it's a lot more communication and instinct

01:15and being able to have a feel with guys like Terrell Edmonds and Cam Sutton and the defensive

01:20backfield, which works a lot better obviously when you're on the field.

01:24So it's a good thing for the Steelers to get this deal done now.

01:27So now they don't have distractions heading into training camp.
