What are the storylines to watch in NFL Preseason Week Two in the NFC?
Transcript
00:00We've got another fun week of football ahead of us as the NFL kicks off their second week
00:04of preseason games and joining me now to preview the top matchups in the NFC is our Cowboys
00:10Country publisher Mike Fisher.
00:11I'm Claudette Montana-Pattison with SI right now and Mike, what are some top matchups that
00:16you are looking forward to from the NFC this week?
00:19Two of them jump out for me because we go NFC versus AFC and the AFC teams involved
00:26are considered contenders by most.
00:28Washington under Ron Rivera will take on the Chiefs and old friend Andy Reid.
00:33And of course, if you're in the NFC East, you remember Andy Reid from his great days
00:37with the Eagles and now great days in Kansas City.
00:41Patrick Mahomes is off to a terrific start, camp and otherwise.
00:46That's a centerpiece guy to watch.
00:48Don't know yet exactly what the Chiefs are going to do with him.
00:51And then at quarterback in Washington, Carson Wentz was pretty good.
00:56Sam Howell, the rookie, was really good and electric in so many ways.
01:01And Rivera afterwards said, you know, I'm not surprised at the things he did here.
01:06He did them the same way as in college.
01:08That's not supposed to be that easy.
01:10You're not supposed to go from tar heel to commander and make it look as easy as Sam
01:15Howell did.
01:16The other marquee game, first of all, it involves the Dallas Cowboys.
01:20And they're on everybody's marquee, whether you like them or not.
01:23And then it's at Los Angeles.
01:24So that's a big stage.
01:25And it's the Chargers.
01:27And in that stadium against a Chargers team that thinks it's building itself into a contender,
01:32the Cowboys will be coming off a game in which they scored seven.
01:35They gave up 17 points, I'm sorry, at Denver, lost 17-7 and had 17 penalties.
01:42That's perfect synchronicity.
01:4517 points allowed?
01:46No, I'm just kidding.
01:47Of course, that's terrible.
01:48And 17 penalties absorbed.
01:51Also terrible.
01:52Mike McCarthy, the coach of the Cowboys, says, you really can't count it against us that
01:56we were the worst penalty team last year and now we're the worst penalty team again this
02:01year.
02:02One has nothing to do with the other.
02:03Mike McCarthy knows better.
02:04One absolutely does have something to do with the other, and it needs to get fixed this
02:08weekend in Los Angeles.
