00:00Week one of the NFL is officially in the books, and joining me now to recap the big weekend
00:06from the AFC are Fan Nation publishers Hondo Carpenter, Chad Jensen, and James Ruppin.
00:11Hondo, let's go to you first.
00:13The Raiders took on the Chargers, weren't able to get the win, but Devontae Adams was
00:19pretty exciting to watch.
00:20What were your biggest takeaways from this game?
00:22The first one was that the Raiders didn't play good, Claudette, and still had a chance
00:27to win it at the end of the game.
00:29Five sacks, three interceptions by Derek Carr, which is not the way Derek Carr has
00:35played over his career.
00:36I think there are no moral victories in the NFL, but if you're the Raiders, you're a loaded
00:40roster, a loaded team, that's a very good Chargers team, and you came away playing really
00:46bad with a chance to win.
00:47I've been there all week at the facility, there is no, nobody's down, everyone's pretty
00:53encouraged by that game.
00:55Not because they played poorly, but they're encouraged that they played poorly and still
00:58had a chance to win.
01:00I think if anything, it solidified that this Raider team is pretty loaded.
01:04All right, Chad, we've got to talk about this Monday Night Football matchup.
01:08Russell Wilson, of course, now the face of the Denver Broncos, he went to Seattle, the
01:13team was not able to get the win as well, which was a big shock to a lot of people.
01:18What were your biggest takeaways from last night?
01:21Well, first and foremost, it's that Nathaniel Hackett, there is going to be some growing
01:27pains, some trial and error learning curve, and it's to be expected with any first time
01:31head coach, but perhaps even more so when it's a first time head coach who hires first
01:36time coordinators at all three spots on his staff.
01:39That came out in spades on Monday night, lack of discipline, lack of poise.
01:44It was quite sloppy, quite ugly, but similar to what Hondo said about the Raiders, the
01:50Broncos really did not play well, but still basically had a chance and should have won
01:56it at the end if Nathaniel Hackett doesn't make the curious decision to sit down the
02:01guy that just paid $245 million to a quarterback on fourth and five, who has a career mark
02:07of converting 68% of those tries to try a 64-yard attempt field goal to hopefully win
02:13the game.
02:14They were down one point from a kicker who has never connected on 62 yards plus.
02:21Yeah, that 64-yard field goal was definitely questionable and got a lot of criticism over
02:26social media after the game.
02:27Another team that did not play up to their standards were the Cincinnati Bengals.
02:31They took on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
02:33James, what happened out there with Joe Burrow and company?
02:37Well, let's start with Joe Burrow.
02:39Five turnovers, four interceptions.
02:41I wouldn't put all of them on Joe, but really uncharacteristic.
02:45Despite that, having a minus five turnover differential, they were still and should have
02:52won the game.
02:54So I think Burrow deserves some credit there.
02:56But two things that really concern me, and it isn't Burrow throwing a bunch of interceptions
03:01because I think he'll clean that up.
03:03It's the offensive line, still seven sacks.
03:05They really struggled against that Steelers defensive front, especially in the first half.
03:10And the second thing is, is late in the game, Zach Taylor had some questionable decisions,
03:15including he decided not to challenge what would have been a touchdown for Jamar Chase
03:19with less than three minutes to go.
03:21So coaching miscues, turnovers, offensive line play, three big question marks.
03:28And that's why the Bengals are 0-1 after an ugly game against the Steelers.
