Here is a complete recap of everything that happened in the NFC in week three
Transcript
00:00 The Philadelphia Eagles may have won this weekend, but the same cannot be said for the Detroit Lions.
00:05 I'm glad at Montana with SI right now and joining me from around the NFC are Foundation publishers
00:11 Ed Kratz and John McAroon. Ed, let's go to you first because the Philadelphia Eagles are on a
00:16 roll. They're undefeated and they're looking like one of the better teams in the NFC. Your biggest
00:21 takeaways from this weekend? Well first let me say this season could have turned out a lot differently
00:26 had the Eagles lost that game in Detroit for both teams. But you know here they are at 3-0.
00:31 They beat the Commanders 24-8. This defense is a much different one than what they showed in Detroit
00:38 when they gave up 35 points to the Lions. They've only given up 13 points the last two games. Two
00:42 other points came on a safety, but my biggest two takeaways from Sunday's win over the Commanders is
00:48 first the defense. Nine sacks of Carson Wentz was just you know those games don't come along very
00:52 often. Obviously Wentz was drafted by the Eagles in 2016 so there's a lot of familiarity with him.
00:58 The Eagles knew that he's going to hold the ball too long. We saw him do it a lot in Philadelphia
01:02 and they knew that if they could get to him they can get the ball out because the Wentz has 67
01:07 career fumbles. Had two more on Sunday. Lost one of those so that was the big takeaway. Second one's
01:13 Devontae Smith. Played one of the best games I've seen from a wide receiver probably since Terrell
01:17 Owens in the 2005 Super Bowl when he had nine catches for 123 yards with a broken leg. Smith
01:23 was all over the place. Acrobatic catches, career-high eight catches, career-high 169 yards
01:29 and it speaks volumes about this team when Jalen Hurts isn't one of my top two takeaways. Hurts
01:34 would probably be the third one. Really coming along nicely showing that he can be this franchise
01:39 quarterback. So my two takeaways defensive effort, nine sacks, career day from Devontae Smith.
01:45 All right John, well the Lions are one and two on the season. Coming off the loss
01:49 to the Minnesota Vikings, biggest takeaways from week three?
01:52 Yeah Claudette, it's just been tough for the Detroit Lions over the last two years to close
01:57 out games. Look it's a young roster, the youngest roster in the National Football League, so baby
02:02 steps for the Detroit Lions. But going on the road they were highly competitive. Unfortunately
02:06 defensively they were not able to hold two double-digit leads and so for the Detroit Lions
02:11 now they're battling injuries. Safety Tracy Walker now is done for the year after being placed on IR
02:16 dealing now with a torn Achilles. But for the Detroit Lions the big takeaway this week is in-game
02:21 management of Dan Campbell. Had been aggressive the entire game going for it on fourth down. The
02:26 team was highly effective executing four of six on fourth down but in a key moment late in the game,
02:32 fourth down with the ball offensively, the Detroit Lions decided to kick a 54-yard field goal and
02:37 unfortunately Austin Seibert had never made a kick more and longer than 53 yards. So here in Detroit
02:43 we're exploring and debating Dan Campbell's in-game management. Aggressive the entire game
02:49 but when it counted, backed off. So for Dan Campbell and company looking to rebound this
02:53 week at Ford Field. Looking to even their record at 2-2 by facing the Seattle Seahawks at Ford Field.
