00:17 Welcome back to another episode of Billboard News. I'm Rania
00:23 and if it's Tuesday, April 16th, and we gotta kick off the show with Courtney Love getting
00:28 real about some of your faves. Courtney Love did not hold back when she talked about Beyonce,
00:33 Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, and more. Let's break it down.
00:37 We're going to take a look at some of the women from across the decades
00:41 who've had the most influence on my life and probably should on yours.
00:46 Courtney Love does not shy away from sharing her opinions. While promoting her eight-part
00:51 audio series on the BBC, Courtney Loves Women, the whole frontwoman actually admitted to not
00:56 liking some women's music. She told The Atlantic she likes the idea of Beyonce doing a country
01:01 album because she's a black woman in a commonly white space, but she doesn't like her music.
01:06 Beyonce and Taylor Swift are the biggest women in music at the moment, but Courtney doesn't
01:10 think Taylor's important. Love said she might be a safe space for girls and she's probably
01:15 the Madonna of now, but she's not interesting as an artist. Speaking on Madonna, Courtney simply said,
01:21 "I don't like Madonna and she doesn't like me." She also talked about Lana Del Rey.
01:26 While she loves Lana's previous music, she thinks she should take seven years off,
01:30 saying, "I haven't liked Lana since she covered a John Denver song."
01:34 Well, one thing about Courtney Love, she speaks her mind. What do you think of her opinions? Let
01:38 us know in the comments. You know, we've got a ton of news to get through. Here are three things
01:43 you need to know today. The Kid LAROI makes it official with Tate McRae. The duo have been
01:48 spotted out on dates the past few months and we even nudged Tate about it at the iHeartRadio Awards.
01:53 Would you ever do a song with Kid LAROI? I don't know. I don't know. I feel like you guys
01:59 gotta get in the studio. Do something. It'd be good. Yeah, maybe. He's amazing. But LAROI finally
02:04 confirmed the romance rumors during his Dublin show when he called Tate his girlfriend. Talk
02:09 about a talented power couple. I'm so happy for them. From LAROI to LARAY, Koi LARAY is thinking
02:15 of shortening her name. The singer revealed to fans on Twitter that she wants to remove LARAY
02:20 from her name and just go by Koi. Personally, I think Koi has a nice ring to it. More power to her.
02:26 Over on the legal side of things, the U.S. Department of Justice is planning to sue Live
02:30 Nation. According to the Wall Street Journal, a lawsuit will be filed in the next few weeks
02:35 alleging violations of antitrust laws. The DOJ claims that Live Nation leveraged its dominance
02:40 over the live music industry to undermine ticketing competition. Hey, if this gets rid of
02:45 those insane fees, I'm all about it. We'll keep you posted as the story develops. And the news
02:50 doesn't stop there. This one is fresh off the press. Good thing Taylor and Travis lived it up
02:56 at Coachella this weekend because their lives are about to get real busy. Taylor Swift is giving
03:01 fans in LA a pop-up library to enjoy while they wait for the tortured poet's department. Over in
03:06 Chicago, fans have noticed QR codes popping up around the city, which leads to an unlisted
03:11 YouTube short video that reads "Error 321." The album drops this Friday, but the writing credits
03:17 are here. Two tracks are written by Swift alone, while Post Malone and Florence Welsh have credits
03:22 on their tracks. Taylor's also teamed up with longtime collaborators Jack Antonoff and The
03:27 Nationals' Aaron Duesner. And it's not just Taylor who's about to be busy. Travis Kelce will
03:32 officially be the host of "Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity." He told Extra, "I grew up loving
03:37 game shows and I'm excited to be following in the footsteps of so many TV icons by hosting my very
03:42 first one." Maybe he can get Taylor as a guest. We can only hope. We love some iconic choreography
03:48 here at Billboard. It makes or breaks a music video or a live performance. And we had the man
03:54 behind some of the most epic dance moves, Richie Jackson, stop by our studio. So I got the phone
04:00 call saying that, you know, they want to use "Rain On Me" and "Stupid Love's" choreography from the
04:04 video. When I was choreographing those videos for Gaga, in the back of my mind I said, "We're
04:13 gonna have to have our like difficult dance pop parts, but then we're gonna have our like simple
04:18 anyone can learn it parts." And so it's interesting to see that it came around unexpectedly to like,
04:22 basically like, do something that's never been done before, which is using the exact choreography
04:26 from a video in a game like Fortnite. So. And did you face any challenges doing that in
04:31 transition? It's interesting because like AI and where we're at in technology has like progressed
04:35 so much. Like back in the day they would have probably like brought me in, put me in a black
04:39 outfit, put on these like symphony balls, yeah the dots, and I would have to like physically dance it.
04:43 But they were literally able to take it from the video and like shift it into Fortnite. And when
04:49 it got to me, they basically showed me her skins and how she was moving and did it like the segments
04:54 and the sequence of what they took from the choreography from the video. Her, you know,
04:59 adult pop star era that we're about to get into, now it's like the game is open. Now I can,
05:05 we've been laughing because I'm like, "Ah, now we can do this move and do that move." And it's
05:09 more risque. So I'm excited. I'm really excited because she's just one of those artists that I
05:13 feel like is the next generation's big pop star and she just goes for it. And I love that about
05:19 her. And I mean she started to tease the song "Karma." What was your reaction the first time
05:24 you heard it? Okay, I was like, "Okay, the last song that I, that JoJo played for me was like
05:29 her song called D-R-E-A-M. It was very young, very kiddie." So I was like, "Okay, Rich, here we go."
05:35 You know, and once I heard it, I was like, "Yes!" I mean, it was unexpected. I didn't think that
05:42 this would be the song that came from her because it just, it was a first from hearing so many kid
05:46 songs for so many years that to hear this verb, I'm sorry, this vibe on her, I loved it. For the
05:52 full interview, head to Billboard's YouTube page. Before I let you go, if you're like me, you've
05:57 had Dua Lipa's "Illusion" stuck in your head all weekend. Well, we sat down with a pop star to find
06:03 out exactly how it went down. I was in, I guess, the milkshake of singledom. It's just like this
06:11 crazy roller coaster of just funny stories and I think it just makes for really good writing. And
06:19 so I'd go in and I'd sit with Caroline, who I've been working with since my first album. I mean,
06:23 we're so close so I can tell her anything and we were sitting down and talking. It's funny when
06:28 someone thinks that they can trick you or they can be an illusion of some sort and you see right
06:34 through it. But you choose to like play along because it's just more funny, but you, you know,
06:40 all the way through, I guess it's just part of the dating thing where you're kind of just texting at
06:45 this point because you're bored, but you can just see right through the bullshit. And so that's
06:50 really what "Illusion" is about. There's a moment in this song, it's like, you know, I can dance all
06:56 night to this. There's nothing that stops me from being able to see through this illusion. Like,
07:01 I can play you at your own game kind of thing. And so that's where it, that's where it came from.
07:06 You can find the rest of the video over on our YouTube channel. That's it for today. Come back
07:18 tomorrow to get a behind-the-scenes look at our cover with Tyla and Tate McRae breaks down some
07:23 of her most liked photos. I'm Rania Nipdos and this is Billboard News.
