00:00 It is a tremendous opportunity for parents to think, OK, this is a fabulous time now
00:05 for my child starting a new chapter in his or her life. The news is very good. For example,
00:11 in 2023, 92.5% of families got the first choice school, which is a tremendous, tremendous
00:18 result.
00:19 So I think we probably are expecting the figures to be similar to last year. One of the things
00:23 that's interesting, what we do know is that the population size for primary aged children
00:28 is actually dropping a bit. So it's likely over the next few years, we should probably
00:32 see the success rate of first choices actually going up a little bit. I mean, what we have
00:36 to bear in mind, though, is that it does depend on which part of the country you're in. We
00:40 know that in some parts of the country, there's real particular pressures on places.
00:45 I understand from a parent's point of view, there will be a lot of parents with anxieties
00:50 there, with anticipation there as well. So hopefully the conversation today will try
00:53 and lead them through some of the answers to those angst-ridden questions and make it
00:58 as easy as possible for everybody.
