Very rare Dead Woman's Penny up for auction at Fielding's Auctioneers, Stourbridge.

00:00 This bronze plaque known as the Death Penny or Widow's Penny was awarded to
00:06 Dorothy Bateman Maddox who lost her life in the Great War in 1918 at the age of
00:11 17. Only 600 of these plaques were awarded to female servicing persons in
00:18 the Great War against 1.3 million plaques that were awarded to men. It
00:23 comes up for auction next week as lot 719 on Friday the 12th of April with the
00:29 estimate of three to four thousand pounds. For interest Dorothy Bateman
00:33 Maddox is buried at St. Mary's Stone near Kidderminster.
