00:00 I never knew why I was doing it, I thought I could have lost five stone.
00:03 There's a big part of me that has lots of regret that I hadn't taken positive action
00:13 years ago. I was wearing in about 19 and a half stone then. We are very fortunate in the
00:20 Southeastern Trust to have a diabetes remission program. This program is designed to provide
00:28 patients with a safe and supportive way in which they can lose a significant amount of weight
00:33 and get their type 2 diabetes into remission.
00:37 It was ideal for me because it was simple. Once a week I would have a kit for doing blood pressure
00:48 and blood glucose and weight. Sharing my success and watching my weight decrease hugely motivated
00:59 me. I was like, come on Padma, you're doing so well here. So we all got behind that and obviously
01:06 my wife got lots of information in terms of backup books and keeping their records
01:13 and how to plan your meals. So the program is 12 months long. It's split into three phases. Phase
01:20 one, the soups and shakes part. Phase two is where we introduce food back into the diet and phase
01:25 three is the longest part of the program. It's all about maintenance and keeping weight off in the
01:31 longer term. Take the advice but believe that you can do it. I was on the precipice of diabetes and
01:38 gone into remission from that. It really just makes you inspired and realise just how fortunate
01:43 I've been.
