We take a look around Forward, Together, a new exhibition telling the story of the last 50 years of Wigan Borough, hosted by the Archives: Wigan and Leigh at Leigh Town Hall.

The free exhibition, which has been curated alongside students from Wigan and Leigh College, celebrates people, places and communities that have shaped the character of the borough since its formation in 1974.

The exhibition is open Thursday to Saturday 10am to 2pm (4pm on weekdays) until September.

00:00 Hi, my name's Katrina. I'm the Lead Officer for Arts at Wigan Council.
00:04 I'm in the brand new exhibition space here at Leigh Town Hall that we've opened specially to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Wigan Borough.
00:12 We've been working with Wigan and Leigh College students and their photography departments to go into the archives to look back at 50 years worth of photography that's in our collections.
00:23 The students have done a brilliant job in going into the archives and showcasing some of the wonderful memories that we have across the borough.
00:31 Really showing what it means to be part of this borough, the personalities, the fashion, the industry and everything that just makes us who we are.
00:40 The exhibition opens this evening and we're open until the 28th of September, Thursdays to Saturdays.
