Three international students from the University of Wollongong share their impressions of Wollongong, what they miss from home, and advice to new arrivals.

00:34 I've been in Wollongong for about a year and a half now.
00:40 So it's been it's been a long enough time for me to get to know Wollongong and enjoy my study.
00:46 It was so beautiful.
00:51 I catch the train, the free bus to just to go around the city and see if there's anything around.
00:57 And it's so beautiful. The beach and the people are so friendly.
01:02 I got lost in the train station once because I didn't know how to swipe an Opal card.
01:07 And everyone in the train station like stopped on their way to make sure like I swipe my card correctly.
01:12 And it was so nice. I never forget that moment.
01:15 And I just think that it's such a nice and peaceful place to live in.
01:20 It's not as bustly like the city, but it gives you like enough entertainment.
01:26 And it's mystery-ness around here.
01:29 I miss the food. Definitely have to stay the food. Vietnamese food like you can't beat that.
01:38 But yeah, but I found some good Vietnamese place in here that like helps me soothe what I miss from my home country.
01:45 So yeah.
01:50 If there's one advice in particular that I have to give to you students overseas is to just be kind and be empathetic.
01:59 Because people in here are like so kind and so empathetic as well.
02:03 So I just think that if we open ourselves a little bit and explore the opportunities here.

02:13 I've been around for six months.
02:20 Coming from a land love region, Harris Valley, Wollongong was breathtaking.
02:26 Having the ocean breeze everywhere, stunning views and our beautiful university with stunning study spots.
02:34 It was very peaceful, quiet and I think Wollongong offers the highest quality of life from everywhere I've traveled so far.
02:43 So I love Wollongong now.
02:47 I did miss my Indian food at first, all the spices.
02:55 But then I found out we have some amazing eateries all around Wollongong.
03:00 And it's a very multicultural and vibrant city.
03:03 So there's nothing at the moment I miss.
03:06 I've got family in both the places now.
03:11 Yes, today's session at Town Hall about Welcome to Wollongong was amazing.
03:18 It was a power packed session and I think lots of international students will be walking away calling Wollongong their second home today onwards.
03:26 And we had a wonderful message from our Vice Chancellor and Lord Mayor.
