00:00 - [Commentator] The rule in Tohsin,
00:01 lock 'em and then corner.
00:02 You know what I expect.
00:03 (speaking in foreign language)
00:07 - [Announcer] 10 rounds, the WBA and ABA middleweight title.
00:16 Alex Castro, 13 and one.
00:19 11 knockouts, he's in the blue.
00:21 Harry Cruz, eight, three, four knockouts.
00:26 He's in the bright yellow, Mark Adams, Christie Martin,
00:31 and Albert Hainsworth ringside here
00:33 at the Casino Miami highlight.
00:35 Don King Productions, the People's Championship.
00:38 Hope you're enjoying this wherever you're watching,
00:40 all over the world on the many different platforms,
00:44 YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, donking.com,
00:48 itube247.com, Fight TV.
00:51 Did that all in one breath.
00:54 - Okay, Castro loaded up a big left hook.
00:58 - Castro misses with that left hook.
01:00 What can we expect out of Castro, Christie?
01:04 - You know, I think he's gonna try to put on
01:05 a little bit better performance than last month.
01:07 He was a little slow getting started last month,
01:09 and I think he's gonna come out and try to show
01:12 that the Ian Green fight wasn't a fluke.
01:15 - Castro started, excuse me, Cruz started
01:19 at 20 years old, he's now 28.
01:23 He was an MMA fighter.
01:24 Eight amateur boxing fights.
01:30 - And I was just gonna say, you can kinda tell
01:31 by the difference in the skills that he didn't have
01:34 that big amateur boxing career like Castro did,
01:39 but he has the toughness, both mentally and physically.
01:43 - Castro had about 85 amateur fights in Columbia.
01:52 - You know, like you said, Christie,
01:54 Cruz, he has just an awkward style.
01:58 I don't know, like is he trying to warm up,
02:02 or, I mean, the awkward style,
02:05 like he could land some punches, though.
02:07 - As I said, his style is definitely not pretty,
02:10 but he's gonna be there, and he's gonna make you fight.
02:14 - Cruz told me he was always fighting in the streets,
02:20 and that's what led him to the gym in Columbia.
02:23 (crowd chattering)
02:25 - You know, like Carl said, in the fight against Green,
02:27 as Cruz lands a left hook,
02:29 a hard right hand to Cruz.
02:33 Cruz has been stopped once.
02:36 That was by Quatavious Cash, the guy we saw on The Contender.
02:40 - Castro's punches seem very heavy tonight.
02:45 When they land, they're like a thud,
02:49 we can hear it ringside.
02:51 - Stopped Hector Bobadilla in round three
02:53 on November 4th right here.
02:55 Big left to the body and a right to the head from Castro.
02:58 Hard left to the body, and a right to the body.
03:01 - Those were great body shots,
03:09 and the toll will start to tell later in the fight,
03:13 if Cruz is able to make it to later rounds.
03:16 - Good right hand, you can hear those body punches
03:18 all the way on Collins Avenue.
03:20 - Yeah, he's definitely loading up with those shots.
03:23 (bell rings)
03:26 - End of round one scheduled for 10.
03:28 - You know, to me it looked like,
03:31 I don't know, Cruz was a little surprised
03:35 with the power of Castro.
03:37 You know, a few times he was blinking,
03:40 you know, like he got, you know,
03:42 he had to call some good straight right hands
03:44 and a few jabs, so yeah, I think he's,
03:48 I think he's surprised, so it's gonna be interesting
03:51 to see how far this goes.
03:52 - Big body shots, as Albert said,
03:57 Cruz definitely has like this very awkward style,
04:01 he just walks in and punches.
04:03 - Yeah, as I said, his style is not pretty,
04:07 but he's a tough guy, but these shots by Castro
04:12 are awfully heavy, and I'm not sure he is gonna be able
04:16 to stay in there for a whole, much longer.
04:19 - How would you prepare for somebody like Cruz?
04:23 - That's a great question, Albert.
04:25 I'm not sure you do.
04:26 You have to go out there and just focus on what you do well,
04:29 and not so much about what your opponent's gonna do well,
04:32 or do, whether it's well or not.
04:34 - Round two scheduled for 10, Alex Castro.
04:44 - Left, you see Cruz now turning southpaw.
04:47 He's listed as a southpaw, came out fighting orthodontists.
04:50 - Yeah, maybe that was why.
04:53 - Trying to befuddle Castro a little bit.
05:00 - I think with the MMA guys, we often see
05:13 that they switch a lot, right, left.
05:15 - Yeah, their feet might get tangled,
05:24 but Castro's doing a great job of avoiding it,
05:28 stepping kinda to the side of his punches.
05:31 - The right hand from Castro.
05:41 - He thought that Castro, Cruz told me,
05:43 he thought Castro would come right at him,
05:46 as Castro throws the right hand
05:48 and hits a lot of Cruz's gloves.
05:50 - You know, Castro could definitely be doing
05:55 what Danny Santiago has asked him to do,
05:57 to be more patient, even when you're landing these big shots
06:00 and possibly hurting your opponent.
06:03 Don't go so crazy like you did against Ian Green.
06:05 - In the Green fight, that's exactly what Castro told us.
06:11 He was very emotional, very emotional,
06:13 being in the fight that it was, fight for Don King.
06:16 He got very emotional.
06:18 You know, he was a guy in Columbia,
06:20 maybe never thought he would get to this point in America.
06:23 He got here, he was very hyped up about it,
06:26 and he kinda blew a lot of steam early.
06:29 Good right hand from Castro.
06:30 - Anytime these guys are getting an opportunity
06:36 to fight on a Don King card,
06:38 you have to be, you're a little extra emotional.
06:39 This is Don King.
06:41 It's not like you're just fighting
06:43 on Joe Blow's show in your hometown.
06:46 - Yeah, and you know, and his trainer said that he was,
06:53 they've stayed here a little while now,
06:55 and so he's accustomed more to America.
07:00 So he should come out patient, relaxed, and do his work.
07:08 - Jab from Cruz falls a little short.
07:11 - Cruz is a tough guy to look good against.
07:16 He's a tough guy to set things up
07:18 because you really never know where he's gonna be.
07:20 - I don't think Cruz knows where he's gonna be heading.
07:24 Southpaw right handers, we end round two.
07:29 - I think that round, Castro was probably
07:34 a little off from it.
07:36 You know, he didn't get the work like he did
07:38 in the first round because of the,
07:41 coming out with a different, I guess, Southpaw.
07:45 - Sometimes that could take some time
07:48 getting used to Christie.
07:50 - Absolutely.
07:51 I mean, there are some fighters
07:52 that like to fight the Southpaw,
07:54 and there are some fighters like myself
07:55 that absolutely wants to crawl the ring
07:57 when I see you turn to Southpaw.
07:59 So it's all about what you prefer and your experience,
08:04 if you have experience fighting Southpaws or not.
08:07 (crowd chattering)
08:09 - Two rounds down, scheduled for 10.
08:12 (whistle blows)
08:18 - Harry Cruz looks like, well, here we go again.
08:27 You know, like, hey, do I really wanna go out there?
08:30 But then he comes out throwing punches.
08:34 - Round three, Alex Castro in the blue,
08:39 Harry Cruz in the yellow, the right from Castro.
08:43 Castro misses with a big right hand.
08:50 - And that's what I'm talking about.
08:52 It's hard to time a guy like Harry Cruz
08:54 because you don't really know,
08:56 he doesn't end up where he's supposed to.
08:58 He throws a punch and he's kind of falling off balance.
09:01 So he's not in the middle.
09:03 He's not where he's supposed to be.
09:04 - Ever since Cruz turned Southpaws,
09:07 he lands a nice left hand, good jab from Castro.
09:11 - You can see Cruz kind of tighten up.
09:17 He doesn't want any of those body shots.
09:19 - Yeah, he definitely doesn't wanna get caught
09:27 in that corner.
09:28 (crowd chattering)
09:31 Yeah, this is how he's like placing his punches.
09:37 - Another hard left to the body from Castro and another.
09:40 You can see Castro wants to be awkward,
09:45 kind of pick and poke,
09:48 and Castro's loading up for one big shot.
09:51 We're halfway home, scheduled for,
09:54 in our third round, scheduled for 10.
09:56 Right hand from Cruz and right hand from Castro
09:59 and another body shot.
10:01 - Yeah, I think Castro's gonna start keying on that body.
10:07 - That's probably his best bet,
10:12 is to put some body shots together.
10:15 - Work the body and the head shall fall.
10:19 - Absolutely.
10:20 - Another body shot.
10:24 - Yeah, but Castro just keeps walking forward
10:27 through these shots.
10:28 There's a left to the body again, right above us.
10:32 - Definitely has found a home for that left hook
10:38 to the body.
10:39 - I'll tell you what, the Christy Martin scouting report,
10:41 the first thing she told me
10:43 when she saw the name Harry Cruz,
10:45 this guy's a real tough guy.
10:46 - I think he's tough, man.
10:49 I think he's tough because he's awkward.
10:52 And somebody can't just get a beat on him.
10:55 - Well, he's taken some hard shots.
10:59 He's taken them well.
11:00 - Oh yeah, definitely.
11:01 - He's tough to prepare for, as you said, Albert.
11:05 And then he's just tough and he can take it.
11:08 - Counter shot from Cruz.
11:12 Closed in on the end of round three.
11:17 Cruz is sneaking in some real flush shots in there.
11:20 There's not so much behind it,
11:22 but he's sneaking punches in there.
11:24 - Yeah, he's like all arms when he's punching.
11:27 It's definitely, yeah, he's a tough, awkward guy
11:33 that's taking, like those body shots are hurt.
11:37 I mean, they're gonna definitely wear him out.
11:40 But he walks right through them, like you said.
11:43 - He's gonna feel those body shots
11:44 for the next couple of days, for sure.
11:46 (crowd cheering)
11:48 - You can see some of these.
12:00 - Nice straight right hand.
12:04 - Yeah.
12:04 He's getting right under, yeah, right under his elbows
12:11 and getting it right in the liver, kidneys.
12:16 (whistle blowing)
12:18 - Round four.
12:24 (bell ringing)
12:27 Scheduled for 10.
12:28 Alex Castro in the blue.
12:31 Harry Cruz in the yellow.
12:34 Cruz is coming off a second round stoppage
12:44 over Giancarlos on February 24th.
12:49 That was in Cartagena, Colombia.
12:52 There's a shot that drives Cruz into the ropes.
13:01 Left to the body, just a little short from cashback.
13:04 - And Cruz comes right back and throws,
13:07 they're not hard punches, but he's still in punches.
13:10 - Another shot to the belt.
13:12 - Thought I was a little low myself.
13:15 - Castro really winding up on these shots.
13:18 - Yeah, I think he wants to really kill the body.
13:25 I mean, like he's, I mean,
13:27 his winding up shots to the body, they're hard
13:29 and they have to be hurting Cruz.
13:33 He doesn't, you know, honestly,
13:38 he doesn't look like it's really bothering him that much.
13:42 - There's another left hook to the body.
13:44 - Oh, that's a low.
13:48 - That was a shot, that was a little low.
13:52 - Again, because of the way that Cruz moves in there,
14:04 he's actually hard to hit because he's not standing up.
14:08 He's not where he's supposed to be again,
14:10 as I keep saying, but he moves so awkwardly.
14:13 It's hard to set up a really, like a knockout punch.
14:17 - Jab from Cruz, misses with a right over the top.
14:23 Good left to the body again from Castro.
14:27 - He's starting to breathe out of his mouth too,
14:34 so I could tell his body chops are.
14:37 - Not for nothing, but Harry Cruz is at least gonna wake up
14:41 probably with some sore ribs tomorrow.
14:43 There's a left to the side,
14:47 another left to the side from Castro.
14:52 We can tell what the game plan is.
14:54 I mean, there's no, oh, a big hard uppercut
14:57 that snaps the neck of Harry Cruz backwards.
15:02 He's still standing right in the middle of the ring.
15:04 - He gets hit with a hard shot
15:06 and then he just comes back with his own punches.
15:08 - Left to the body again from Alex Castro.
15:13 More body work from Castro.
15:22 This might be one of those fights
15:26 as we get into rounds five, six, seven,
15:30 that he made Harry Cruz, I mean,
15:34 I don't know how many shots they're gonna let him take.
15:37 - You know, Mark, I was thinking the exact same thing.
15:38 It's about time that the corner starts to take
15:40 a little closer look at Harry Cruz
15:43 and the punishment that he's taking.
15:45 - You see some of the work done by Alex Castro
15:49 done in round four.
15:50 - Nice step around.
15:53 Castro's showing, he's showing us a really good array
15:57 of different punches.
15:58 His arsenal is really good tonight.
16:01 - There's that uppercut to the bottom of the jaw
16:03 that really snapped Cruz back.
16:06 - And he walked right through it.
16:10 - And his punches are, Castro's punches are really concise.
16:13 They're like short and choppy.
16:14 They have to be hurting.
16:16 They're definitely hurting.
16:18 - Yeah, he's breathing out of the mouth for sure,
16:22 like last round, so.
16:32 - Round number five.
16:33 Alex Castro in the blue, Harry Cruz in the yellow.
16:37 Cruz trying to jump forward.
16:42 Right hand just misses from Alex Castro.
16:54 - Castro, his speed is good.
17:00 His punches are nice.
17:01 He's not looping anything.
17:02 Everything's coming straight.
17:05 Landing on a target.
17:07 - I could definitely see Castro being in good fights
17:09 like he was with green.
17:11 Just needs the right dance partner.
17:15 Cruz is doing what he needs to do.
17:17 Kind of this awkward style, moving away,
17:20 moving side to side.
17:22 He needs to do that to be competitive in this fight.
17:25 - He has to make it an ugly fight.
17:28 Castro is a very polished boxer.
17:31 So in order to beat him,
17:33 you really have to make it a dog fight.
17:35 - This is one of these learning experiences for Castro.
17:38 Still just 27 years old,
17:40 has had most of his fights in Columbia
17:42 as he ate a left-handed Alex Castro.
17:45 - You can see Cruz really,
17:51 I think he changed his style a lot.
17:54 Not to take body shots.
17:56 As you notice, he's gonna get in and out.
17:59 He'd be more aggressive here around five.
18:01 There's a slinging right hand from Castro.
18:11 Castro misses with a left hook.
18:14 - And that could be a little frustration
18:16 starting the show with Castro.
18:18 Missed a big left hook, fell over the ropes a little bit.
18:22 And then as we see him stick out his tongue.
18:24 - His last fight with Bobadilla,
18:28 who he stopped in three rounds about a month ago.
18:32 Bobadilla was right there,
18:33 good right to the body again from Castro.
18:35 Bobadilla was right there and he wasn't awkward.
18:37 So he was almost a sitting target was Bobadilla
18:40 in that fight.
18:41 Here comes Harry Cruz trying to push Castro back
18:44 as he gets in a left hand.
18:45 - Cruz's strategy might have been
18:49 to get Castro into the later rounds.
18:52 Let's see if he's in shape.
18:53 - There's another left from Harry Cruz.
18:58 They're like slapping left.
18:59 Seem like, I mean, he got kind of heavy hands,
19:05 but they're more like the slapping ones.
19:08 - Those punches definitely are not as short
19:12 and precise as Castro.
19:15 - End of round number five.
19:19 We're halfway home.
19:20 Our WBA and ABA middleweight title fight.
19:26 Alex Castro and Harry Cruz.
19:28 - I think Cruz got a little break.
19:31 Castro didn't get to really work the body.
19:36 I think I only saw about two body punches in the lead.
19:39 - Definitely it was,
19:41 maybe Castro was taking the round off
19:43 and he'll come out strong in the sixth round.
19:46 (crowd chattering)
20:13 - Let's say we got some great looking ring girls.
20:16 (whistle blows)
20:19 Need to bring some back to Nashville.
20:21 Luck you can do that, right?
20:24 - Nashville being the home of Albert Hainsworth,
20:27 the former two-time All-Pro of the Tennessee Titans.
20:32 Harry Cruz comes running out of the corner at Alex Castro.
20:35 Now he's back in the orthodox stance
20:37 for the first time since the first round.
20:39 I don't know if this is a mistake or not,
20:42 but we'll soon find out.
20:43 - He opened up with a pretty impressive jab,
20:47 double jab and left hook to the body.
20:49 But then he gets right back,
20:50 Castro's right back on the body shots.
20:52 - He took a big right hand
20:54 and he got right back to the Southpaw stance, Christy.
20:58 - Yeah, that probably reminded him
20:59 that that's the best way for him to stay right now.
21:02 - He got banged around the first round a little bit.
21:06 He went Southpaw.
21:07 Castro lands a right hand,
21:11 but Cruz is trying to fight back.
21:13 - Cruz caught him a couple of times
21:16 with the punches between Castro's punches.
21:18 - Yeah, that's like his thing.
21:21 Like once Castro throws, Cruz will just throw
21:24 and it'll be like a looping, I don't know,
21:29 looping punch or more like slap.
21:32 - Like we said, Cruz has only been stopped one time
21:34 in his 11 fights.
21:38 - I can see why.
21:39 (crowd cheering)
21:42 - Not a fun guy to fight.
21:44 - No, not at all.
21:46 - Either is Alex Castro for that matter.
21:50 - No, we definitely agree with that.
21:54 - Like honestly, I don't think Castro's really
22:03 felt anything from Cruz's punches.
22:09 (crowd cheering)
22:11 - Right hand just misses from Castro.
22:14 Second right, misses again.
22:16 Here comes Cruz just walking straight in.
22:20 - I mean, he's catching Castro on the chin,
22:25 but there's no real power behind it.
22:30 So again, that was like a little slapping punch.
22:34 - Christy, although Castro's winning the fight,
22:37 you know, the thing was about him being patient.
22:40 That's what he was trying to do.
22:42 You see that out of him tonight against this awkward style?
22:45 - Well, it's so hard to fight guys like Harry Cruz,
22:48 but I do think he's being patient up until this point.
22:51 That may have been the game plan,
22:53 but I think now we're in round six.
22:55 It's time to step on the gas.
22:58 Let's see if we can get him out of here
22:59 and make a statement that, hey,
23:01 Cruz hasn't been stopped by many fighters,
23:03 so let's be one of those that have stopped him.
23:06 - And these shots are heavy shots, Mark.
23:10 - There's a left to the jaw that gets in.
23:13 - And then Cruz lands a little left hand in his arm.
23:18 - Cruz looks no worse for wear
23:19 after eating all these big shots so far in six rounds.
23:23 - Cruz is just like,
23:30 this is another day at the office.
23:33 All these big shots I've taken,
23:35 it's, oh well, this is what it is.
23:37 - Yeah, he like throws that punch
23:40 and is like walking away as he threw the punch
23:42 as the bell went off.
23:44 This is interesting.
23:45 - See some of the action from round number six.
23:50 Cruz is, he just takes these shots,
23:58 shakes them off and keeps on coming.
24:02 - I don't know if Castro,
24:04 when he lands like that two and three,
24:06 if he'd just keep going back in
24:08 and finish it instead of backing off.
24:11 You kind of see what Cruz is gonna do,
24:15 just like we just saw with that replay.
24:17 I think that's when,
24:21 hit him with a couple of head shots,
24:22 then go to the body.
24:23 (bell rings)
24:27 - Start for round seven, scheduled for 10, Alex Castro.
24:31 - I mean, Christy, with a guy like Cruz,
24:35 and to me, there's no punch I think that Castro
24:39 has respected.
24:43 Would you just go in and kind of like hunt him down?
24:47 Or is it just kind of too hard to hunt him down?
24:49 - I think at some point you step on the gas a little bit,
24:53 you up the hunt.
24:55 And see, do you have the punching power to stop,
25:01 Harry Cruz?
25:02 And as we said, he's only been stopped once,
25:05 so can you join that group of people
25:07 that have been able to stop him?
25:09 He's a tough fighter to fight because he's so awkward
25:12 and his punches are coming from all different crazy angles.
25:15 His head's not where it's supposed to be
25:17 when you're trying to hit it.
25:18 The truth is, all these big shots,
25:22 other than the body shots,
25:24 he's slipping and sliding just enough
25:26 that he doesn't get the full impact.
25:28 - Right, yes, right.
25:30 Castro misses with a right hand.
25:32 Cruz has been chasing Castro for the first minute
25:37 or so of this round.
25:39 - Yeah, that's what I'm wondering,
25:40 why not just, why not Castro just stay in there?
25:44 You know, and really just, instead of moving around him,
25:49 just go right at him, I think.
25:58 - Maybe he's getting a little tired himself.
26:00 Sometimes with guys like this,
26:05 even though he knows his skills are superior,
26:08 but this guy that shouldn't be in the ring with me
26:11 is still here after round seven.
26:13 So you start getting those little crazy doubts
26:15 in your own mind.
26:16 - Yeah, I can tell he's getting a little frustrated too.
26:19 - This is where Castro's to keep his composure.
26:23 You see what Cruz is doing,
26:26 just keep pushing him back, throwing punches,
26:29 left to the body from Castro.
26:30 Here comes Cruz again, lands a left of his own.
26:33 - You know, as you start to get tired,
26:37 and I don't know if maybe Castro's getting tired,
26:40 even though Cruz may not have great punching power,
26:42 he maybe lands that perfect shot right on the chin
26:45 and drops Castro.
26:47 - Gotcha.
26:48 Here's a left from Cruz.
26:55 Another left from Cruz in between punches.
26:57 Cruz just keeps moving his hand.
26:59 Harry Cruz hanging around here in round number seven.
27:10 - He's really pressing the action,
27:14 even though Castro's throwing a bigger punches
27:17 off the ropes.
27:18 - He may have said, you know what,
27:19 I've taken this guy's power,
27:22 let me see what I can do getting in the pocket.
27:24 I think maybe that's what he's thinking in there.
27:26 - Absolutely, he could be like, okay, I've worn him out,
27:29 now it's time for me to go to work.
27:31 - Cruz is definitely breathing hard.
27:34 And you know, more like Castro is, you know, not as much.
27:41 - We get ready for round eight.
27:49 (crowd chattering)
27:52 - One thing's for sure, Harry Cruz,
27:58 he didn't make me out a liar.
28:00 I told everybody that he's a tough guy
28:02 and you better bring your lunch,
28:03 and he's definitely showing us that.
28:07 - That's what we have here, Christy.
28:08 - He saved me.
28:11 - Yeah, he was definitely like, I mean, yeah.
28:16 (bell ringing)
28:18 Like secretly tough.
28:19 - 'Cause he definitely doesn't look like that.
28:22 And the aura about him is just like such a meek guy
28:26 that you would never think he has this kind of toughness.
28:28 - Right.
28:29 - We start round eight.
28:30 (bell ringing)
28:33 - You know, and maybe that awkwardness
28:46 as far as like switch right to left,
28:49 a lot is throwing a lot of boxers off.
28:51 - Alex Castro and Harry Cruz.
28:56 Castro probably has won, I think,
29:01 six of the seven rounds minimum, maybe all seven.
29:04 But Harry Cruz's toughness, his awkwardness,
29:09 is causing some problems for Alex Castro.
29:14 - He's just one of those guys that,
29:15 even though he may not have great punching power,
29:18 he's always right in front of you.
29:19 So you can never really relax.
29:22 You have to be on guard at all times.
29:25 Never know when he's gonna unleash a punch
29:27 and where's that punch gonna come from.
29:29 - Right, yeah, he's like the annoying gnat
29:31 (laughs)
29:32 that you just can't get out of your face.
29:34 - Well, Albert's right.
29:36 He's one of the toughest maintenance men that I know.
29:40 - Bringing his lunch bell.
29:44 (crowd chattering)
29:47 - Oh, he's down.
29:50 - Castor, you're not hurting me.
29:53 - There's some shots to the head and body shots.
29:56 Another left from Castro, and a hard left.
29:59 Here comes Alex Castro trying to open up on Harry Cruz.
30:02 There's an uppercut and a right hand.
30:04 - Oh, yeah, opened up a cut.
30:08 - Cut over his right eye is Harry Cruz.
30:11 Cruz trying to land some shots,
30:13 but Castro trying to look for one or two shots
30:17 to really hurt Cruz, but I don't think he can.
30:19 - I definitely think he hurt Cruz,
30:24 and I think Castro ran out a little gas.
30:26 - Body shot from Castro, and a hard right hand.
30:32 Cruz keeps punching back,
30:37 and he's standing his ground in the middle of the ring.
30:40 - That's a low blow. - Low blow again.
30:42 - He is, he's like the Energizer Bunny, right?
30:45 He just keeps coming and coming.
30:47 - And now he's trying to push Castro back to the ropes.
30:53 Good counter right hand to the jaw from Castro.
31:02 - Yeah, that hurt Castro.
31:03 - Cruz is gonna go down, he's gonna go down swinging.
31:13 - No doubt about that.
31:15 - Right hand from Castro again.
31:17 We come to the end of round eight.
31:24 Alex Castro opens up a cut, and he hurts Harry Cruz.
31:29 - One thing's for sure, I think if we were getting paid
31:36 on toughness tonight, Cruz is getting
31:38 the biggest paycheck of everybody.
31:40 - It's ironic though, Cruz threw the last couple
31:42 punches of the round.
31:44 - Yeah, I think that flurry when he cut Cruz,
31:50 like he got gassed, and I think Cruz was ready to go.
31:57 And after, I mean he was ready to go,
32:02 but he just ran out of gas to finish it.
32:09 - Fixes up his punches well, Castro.
32:11 He's up, down, uppercuts, right hands over the top,
32:15 back hooks to the body.
32:17 And he's able to land all different assortment of punches.
32:22 - You see Castro wobble Cruz momentarily.
32:29 Round nine, scheduled for 10.
32:33 Alex Castro and Harry Cruz.
32:37 (crowd chattering)
32:39 Locked up in an interesting fight.
32:41 Like I said, Castro has to be way ahead
32:44 as the blood's starting to trickle down the right side
32:47 of Harry Cruz's face again.
32:49 - And you know, that, I think it was a hook
32:58 that was right here in front of us,
32:59 and it knocked some blood out of Cruz's mouth.
33:04 (crowd chattering)
33:07 - You know, at this point, Castro's hitting
33:14 with really everything he could possibly throw.
33:17 He may be well served just to sit back and jab
33:21 and put the victory in the win column.
33:24 - I think a guy like Castro,
33:27 just by what we've talked about,
33:29 he's still gunning for this knockout.
33:33 Or at least trying to hurt Castro pretty bad.
33:37 - You're saying Castro is--
33:40 - I mean, excuse me, Castro trying to hurt Cruz pretty bad.
33:43 Good straight right hand again from Alex Castro.
33:47 - You gotta be honest, I don't think he can
33:50 hit a knock him out with one shot.
33:52 Like, the way this guy is, and what he's taking,
33:57 I don't see a one shot really putting him to the ground.
34:02 - Albert, did you ever go up against a football player
34:07 where you're dominating him, but for whatever reason,
34:10 he just won't go away?
34:12 - Oh, absolutely.
34:13 I've had a few like that.
34:17 Some in practice, which was good,
34:21 because I got my stamina up.
34:23 (crowd cheering)
34:24 - Cruz giving a little attitude.
34:26 - That's why I said this is a good learning fight
34:29 for Alex Castro, because he's dealing with an awkward style.
34:34 Got hit a few times, not too hard,
34:37 but he's dealing with this.
34:40 And at some point in his career,
34:42 he may have to deal with similar situations going forward.
34:46 - And he's getting another 10 rounds under his belt.
34:50 - Another body shot from Alex Castro.
34:57 (crowd cheering)
34:59 - I mean, his shots just knock Cruz's head back,
35:05 you know, snaps it back, and he just keeps coming.
35:09 - Good body shot again from Alex Castro.
35:19 - So does this tell us how tough Cruz is,
35:21 or does this tell us that Castro maybe doesn't have
35:26 elite level punching power?
35:28 (bell dings)
35:31 - Oh, yeah, that's the question.
35:34 - I mean, he's landed very clean shots.
35:37 - I mean, you hear the power.
35:41 I mean, I would say, hey, Cruz is probably
35:44 one of the toughest guys I've ever seen.
35:47 - If I would have told you in round two or three,
35:49 we're gonna be going into the 10th round,
35:52 would you believe me?
35:53 - Absolutely not.
35:55 - No, I don't think so.
35:56 With a little Ali shuffle from Cruz.
36:04 I mean, they really actually right there,
36:10 he looked like he's just having fun.
36:11 - Yeah, taking a beating.
36:14 Basically saying, hey, you can't hurt me.
36:19 (whistle blows)
36:23 - Ladies and gentlemen, this is the 10th and final round!
36:28 - 10th and final round of our WBA and ABA
36:35 middleweight championship.
36:37 - Now you can see Castro, his mouth is open.
36:42 I haven't noticed that.
36:44 - Both these guys, I'm sure, see the finish line.
36:49 Good right hand from Alex Castro.
36:53 Another right to the top of the head.
36:54 Left hook, but here comes Cruz.
36:57 - Cruz is trying to keep pushing him back.
36:59 But even as he comes forward,
37:04 Castro's laying those big bombs.
37:06 - This Harry Cruz, he's one tough cookie in there.
37:14 Tough, awkward, southpaw, takes shots.
37:21 (crowd shouting)
37:23 - It's one of these things where
37:27 Castro's gonna win the fight.
37:29 But Cruz gained a lot in this fight,
37:35 from me and all the fans watching around the world.
37:37 Oh, good hard right hand!
37:39 And Cruz just keeps on coming.
37:41 - If you walk through a right hand like that,
37:48 I'm not sure what you're made of.
37:50 - And something else that I just thought of.
37:53 Has Cruz held once during this fight?
37:56 - No.
37:57 - I don't think he knows how.
37:57 - Oh, and a big left again from Castro.
38:00 He's taken so many big shots and doesn't hold,
38:08 keeps coming, stands his ground in the middle of the ring.
38:18 And really continues to push the action.
38:21 - Still going at it right above us here at Casino Miami.
38:26 Oh, good shot underneath, another left to the body.
38:35 More body work from Alex Castro.
38:43 Gonna try to end it the same way
38:45 he started it with the body work.
38:47 More body shots with the left hand, good right to the head.
38:50 - It's like Cruz just loves this.
38:57 He taunts him and he gets to beat him and keeps coming.
39:02 - Step back right hand just misses from Alex Castro.
39:14 - I think Cruz's game plan is just to wear him out.
39:18 I mean, that's what it looks like.
39:20 He just keeps coming.
39:22 Have you seen him, the fights you've watched Cruz,
39:28 has he won them?
39:29 - Actually, yes.
39:31 On my show, I brought him in as the B-side,
39:34 if you want to call A and B, and he made the upset.
39:37 So he won.
39:38 - And how did he win?
39:42 - This is how he wins, he overwhelms people.
39:44 Like that was a four round fight.
39:45 So he's just awkward and he threw so many punches
39:48 and he stayed right on top of the guy.
39:49 - Well, Alex Castro and Harry Cruz
39:52 go the 10 round distance.
40:12 - So Alexander Castro looks to go to 14 and one,
40:17 but he earned it tonight.
40:20 - Absolutely he did.
40:23 He had to work, really he worked every second of every round.
40:27 - And Harry Cruz looks almost the same
40:29 as he came into the ring,
40:30 despite taking probably about 250 shots over 10 rounds.
40:34 - Yeah, I wonder how his body's gonna feel though.
40:39 That's my question.
40:41 I mean, that one shot,
40:42 I think it was probably the hardest shot was that right,
40:48 where it literally knocked spit onto our bell guy.
40:54 That was a good six, seven feet away.
40:58 - Make us for a little bit perspective, Albert.
41:03 You would play in a game, 70 plays,
41:05 you have 300 pound men falling on you for three hours.
41:08 I mean, what do you feel like on Monday morning?
41:11 - Well, I never had anybody falling on me.
41:12 I was just knocking them around.
41:14 But yeah, he felt horrible.
41:20 I mean, like sore everywhere, can't really move.
41:25 Sometimes you're like you got injuries you didn't even know
41:28 where you could be out the next week.
41:33 - So you actually gonna feel,
41:34 you feel what Harry Castro probably
41:36 is going through tomorrow.
41:38 - Yeah, it's like, it's equivalent to a major car accident.
41:41 NFL games like a major car accident.
41:44 - Well, to get the decision and the scores,
41:45 let's go up to ring announcer, Jeremiah Gallegos.
41:48 - Ladies and gentlemen here from Casino Miami Highline.
41:56 How about a huge round of applause
41:58 for both of these warriors here in the ring
42:02 at the huge war between Puerto Rico and Colombia.
42:08 (crowd clapping)
42:10 And now we go to the judges scorecards.
42:13 Here are the totals.
42:16 Judge Eliseo Rodriguez scores his contest 99-91.
42:21 Judges John Rupert and Michael Tate
42:25 both have the same score 98-92.
42:30 To the winner by unanimous decision
42:33 and now crowned the new WBA and NABA gold middleweight
42:38 champion, El Orgullo de Tolua, Colombia,
42:43 Alexander "El Gran" Castro.
42:49 - There you have it, Alexander Castro goes to 14 and one.
42:59 scores 99-91 and 98-92 twice.
