00:02 - Yamamoto makes his debut tonight, right?
00:06 And nobody's seen him.
00:08 I mean, with the exception, I don't know,
00:10 was anybody on San Diego that faced Japan
00:14 in the World Baseball Classic?
00:16 So I don't wanna like, I don't wanna put my hand
00:19 on a stack of Bible and say nobody's ever seen him before.
00:22 But I don't think anybody has, actually.
00:25 'Cause everybody in the WBC didn't play against him.
00:29 So you're talking about a guy,
00:31 it's gonna be all or nothing with him, Carver.
00:33 But I think in this first game, for him,
00:36 in Asia, it makes a difference, actually, right?
00:39 He's pitched in Korea before.
00:41 He's from Japan.
00:42 He's like, he's played a lot of international baseball.
00:45 He knows this stadium, even.
00:48 So I think he's gonna be comfortable here in Asia tonight.
00:51 We'll see what happens when he gets to the big leagues.
00:53 I think there will be games where he gets hit sometimes.
00:56 But I'm very, I'm fascinated to see him play.
00:58 We know what Otani was gonna do, right?
01:00 There was no, you know,
01:02 it's Dodgers signed Tioska Hernandez.
01:03 There was no mystique or mystery
01:06 around what Tioska Hernandez is gonna do.
01:09 There's a mystique and mystery around Yamamoto, right?
01:13 Let, you know, we don't know.
01:14 Let's see him right now against big league,
01:16 big league hitters, but I'm expecting him to do well.
01:19 And even if he gives up a couple of runs tonight,
01:21 I like the over four and a half strikeouts for him.
01:24 He's got some really weird pitches, bro.
01:26 Like a lot of pitchers in major league baseball have,
01:29 you know, they got the slider, they got the cutter,
01:32 they got the fastball, they got the high seat, whatever.
01:35 They're all kind of the same pitch.
01:36 They're just sort of little variations.
01:38 This guy, this guy, Mike,
01:40 he'll come at you with like a 94, 95 mile an hour fastball.
01:43 The next pitch could be 62, right?
01:46 And, or 73.
01:48 Like his, his slider is like fat,
01:51 like everything is all over the place.
01:53 And it really throws hitters off a rhythm.
01:55 Like all the Dodger players that have faced them
01:58 during spring training are like, thank God,
02:00 I don't have to see this guy.
02:01 'Cause not only, he's one of those pitchers, Mike,
02:03 that not only will get you out,
02:06 but he can mess your swing up, bro.
02:09 Like he can mess your timing up and everything
02:11 because it was so just out there.
02:15 It's one thing to go and strike out against Garrett Colts.
02:18 Another thing, if one guy's like, it's like a yo-yo
02:21 and it messes with your head.
02:23 So a lot of hitters have said that.
02:25 You gotta just sort of accept he's gonna get you out
02:27 and don't let it mess with your head.
02:29 - I think that's, that you make a great point
02:31 about going for the strikeout over in this game with him,
02:34 because none of these guys have seen him.
02:36 Maybe one or two of them,
02:37 but none of these guys have seen him,
02:39 stood in the box against him
02:41 with what he's gonna be throwing.
02:43 He also knows that building.
02:44 He's definitely pitched in that dome in Korea
02:47 before at some point along the line.
02:50 So I think that that's gonna make a difference.
02:51 He'll have some, he'll be comfortable in there.
02:53 I like it.
02:54 And I'm gonna go back to it,
02:55 'cause we said yesterday,
02:57 I think he'll hit one in one of these two games.
02:58 Otani didn't hit one this morning.
03:00 I think you gotta go back to it
03:02 and hope that you get a little bit of something out of it
03:05 with the 282, 285, whatever you're getting Otani at
03:08 to hit a homer tomorrow,
03:09 especially with Musgrove going tomorrow,
03:11 who likes to give up the long ball to the lefties.
03:14 - We're getting better odds now.
03:15 I love it.
03:16 After one game.
03:17 You know, it went down to plus 225 last night
03:19 before the first pitch.
03:20 (laughing)
03:21 I was like, oh.
03:22 - Before I went to sleep, I saw it here on the East Coast.
03:25 I saw it go down to 225.
03:27 - Yeah, same with the Dodgers.
03:28 The Dodgers opened up at like minus 180.
03:30 They closed it at 220.
03:33 So it's one of these deals.
03:35 And these games, no one even knows these games
03:37 are going on, dude.
03:38 And they're in the middle of the morning,
03:39 in the middle of the night and stuff.
03:40 So it goes to show the power of the Dodgers batting.
03:42 So like right now at minus 185,
03:44 it's probably gonna be 200.
03:46 By the time we get to the overnight hours, I'm with you.
03:49 And Otani smoked a ball last night.
