Analyzing what Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald's retirement means for the San Francisco 49ers.
Transcript
00:00 This is big news
00:02 Aaron Donald just retired
00:04 he's done and
00:06 That's great news for the 49ers not great news for the Rams
00:10 Although if we're being honest, didn't it kind of feel like Aaron Donald retired two years ago after they won the Super Bowl
00:18 I mean once he went to that joint practice and
00:21 Started wielding a helmet as a weapon. Didn't it look like he was kind of checked out
00:27 I thought he played like he was checked out the last couple of years
00:30 but still better to have Aaron Donald than not to have Aaron Donald now that Rams don't have Aaron Donald in the Niners are
00:36 Really sitting pretty in the NFC West what I do think is interesting about the Rams in contrast to the 49ers is
00:44 how
00:47 Committed the Rams have become to building through their offense. They used to have the number one defense in the league now
00:56 How many players can you name on that defense off the top of your head it's good, but it's not
01:01 the side of the ball that the Rams are investing heavily and instead they spent a whole lot of money on a
01:07 Pro Bowl guard this offseason something the 49ers would never ever ever ever ever ever do but the Rams did it
01:15 because they have a
01:17 Super Bowl winning quarterback at the tail end of his prime and they want to make sure he's in
01:24 They want to put him in the best position to be successful and win on the strength of his arm
01:31 Which is something the 49ers haven't necessarily done yet with Brock Purdy
01:36 They call him the real deal, but they still want to win with run game and defense as opposed to their real deal
01:43 Quarterback. Well, the Rams are doing it a little differently
01:47 Doesn't mean they're right doesn't mean they'll win the NFC West
01:50 in fact this news today makes it seem like they probably won't but
01:54 We'll see what happens
