00:00 I've always thought it's really weird we call ourselves 24-hour party people, 24-hour party city.
00:05 How can you be 24 hours when the tram stops at half 11?
00:08 No, it doesn't make any sense. And I noticed London got a massive kicking this week because they said they're a 24-hour city.
00:14 They're not a 24-hour city. No one in the UK is a 24-hour city when you look at inspiration like Berlin and places like that.
00:20 However, baby steps and we have got night buses coming now and that's a huge thing and it's going to make such a difference.
00:27 This week, thousands of people from the hospitality industry descended on Manchester for the Northern Restaurant and Bar 2024 trade fair.
00:36 Hundreds of stalls were set up inside Manchester Central Convention Centre on the 12th and 13th of March,
00:42 alongside live cooking demonstrations and keynote speeches from industry professionals.
00:47 Nighttime economy advisor for Greater Manchester, Sasha Lord, took to the stage to deliver a speech on the state of hospitality in the city region
00:55 and told Manchester World he wants to see Manchester become Europe's leading city for nightlife.
01:00 We take inspiration from many other cities like Berlin. I love Berlin. But that's not the level. We want to beat it.
01:07 It sounds really cocky. The Sunday Times called us the UK's capital of nightlife.
01:12 Well, we want to be Europe's capital of nightlife. That's where we want to be.
01:16 We asked people in Manchester what they think about the nightlife in the city.
01:19 I don't come out much, but when I do, I think the restaurants are awesome, which I then also feed.
01:25 I think in tonight, people then end up staying out if they have a few drinks for a meal. So I definitely agree.
01:31 I think we've got to be the best at everything, haven't we? So if we just do one thing at a time, that's great.
01:36 I really like Sasha Lord and what he stands for. I think he's really passionate about Manchester.
01:41 And I think getting everyone else to kind of come on board and come alongside it, everyone needs a leader.
01:46 The only thing I'd like to say is I don't feel like the music's represented as much as it could be.
01:51 I think Manchester really has got a great music vibe. And I think we could be bringing that out a bit more, getting more relevant DJs in town.
01:59 More probably not too late. Maybe it's because I've got kids. And it needs to go earlier.
02:04 But I just think the Northern Quarter's ace as well.
02:06 Yeah, there's lots of variety. So I think it is quite a good city for nightlife.
02:10 And not just like clubs, there's like bars and lots of different options for people.
02:14 Yeah, I would agree. I've been here for about seven or eight years through uni and then I've stayed here.
02:19 And it's been great with both.
02:21 Amazing. Do you have any favourite places that you like to go at all?
02:25 We are quite partial to Albuchlaur.
02:30 Yeah, we usually go for drinks, don't we? Like the Ivy, 20 Stories.
02:34 What's the place outside called?
02:36 What is it called? The Oast House.
02:38 Yeah, Oast House is always good in the summer, though, not when it's like this.
02:41 The nightlife in Manchester is great. There's so much to do here.
02:45 I work in theatre and the theatre here is second only to London, really.
02:51 It's not that we need to compare things against London, but there's a lot to choose from.
02:57 From cinemas and places to eat, places to drink, go see stuff, live music, live theatre.
03:04 There's lots going on.
