00:00 Mike L.
00:02 What's up?
00:03 If you had an opening statement, what would it be?
00:05 [Laughter]
00:07 It's exciting to be here, man.
00:08 Getting this season started, this spring ball start.
00:11 Obviously, there's been a lot of scuffles,
00:14 I guess you can confirm now or whatever,
00:17 that you'll be working a lot more maybe at the outside linebacker this spring.
00:21 Can you talk about whether that's a fact and if it is,
00:24 what you anticipate the transition might well be?
00:28 Yes, sir. That is something that we have talked about
00:31 and something that we are working towards.
00:33 I kind of envision it looking something similar to the Florida State game
00:36 where I was playing a little bit more outside linebacker there.
00:39 It's something that's in the making.
00:43 To your left, what do you tell the wide-eyed transfer guys or rookies
00:48 that are making their way into this program for the first time
00:50 to experience spring ball?
00:51 What's the word of advice, warning you heed them as they get ready for what lies ahead?
00:56 It's fun. It's exciting.
00:58 I always tell them to take care of their body and take it in and learn.
01:08 Michael, who is your primary position coach now?
01:10 Is it Chidera? Is it Coach Scott? Who do you meet with?
01:12 No, it's still Coach Scott, but I do go and meet with Chidera separately
01:16 and get outside linebacker stuff done.
01:22 Hey, Michael, Kirby was talking about Etienne coming in and showing some leadership.
01:27 I guess I would just ask you if you've had any time around him
01:30 and what does it do when you bring in a dynamic running back like that to a team?
01:35 Like you said, he's a great player. He's a dynamic back.
01:38 I spend some time with him. There's not much that I'm going to spend with him.
01:42 I can't wait to see what he can do for us.
01:47 Michael, when it comes to this new role as more of an outside linebacker,
01:50 what are the things you're particularly focused on getting better at this spring
01:53 over these next few weeks?
01:55 Basically, with my game this year, I'm basically trying to improve my hands,
02:00 my hand speed, my pad level, my getoff.
02:03 There's really certain things that I'm going to need to be successful
02:06 at this position and at the same position.
02:10 Hey, Michael, Kirby talked a little bit about making sure returners aren't on
02:15 cruise control, even if you've played a ton, even if you've had a lot of success.
02:18 How do you as a player make sure you're not on cruise control?
02:21 By staying in the right mindset, staying in the grind and get better mindset.
02:25 That's something that we walk around this building preaching.
02:27 We're never – better never rest.
02:29 That's a saying we have here and we truly believe that.
02:36 Hey, Michael, you've battled through some injuries through your first two years
02:39 but managed to stay on the field.
02:40 So I'm curious, what's the key to kind of playing hurt or playing injured,
02:44 if you will, and how do you feel right now entering your spring practice?
02:47 I feel great.
02:49 Basically just having a great mindset and having a great way to play.
02:53 And the training staff here is second to none.
02:57 We have one of the best training rooms in the nation
03:01 and we have a lot of techniques we use to get players back healthy and able to play.
03:10 You mentioned playing sort of that outside linebacker role against Florida State.
03:13 How big was that for you from a confidence standpoint to sort of try a new role
03:17 and then have sort of that immediate success with it going into this offseason?
03:21 Man, it was great because I brought this – I mentioned it to Coach Smart and Coach Schumann
03:27 and they like agreed with me like that's something they plan to do already.
03:31 And just for them to have that confidence in me
03:33 and then for me to go out there and we kind of had a result that we did.
03:36 So it was a great confidence boost and a great feeling.
03:49 Yeah, I guess for anyone at home watching this,
03:51 can you explain the kind of responsibility differences
03:54 between what you might do at Jack and what you might do at defensive end?
03:58 See in our system it's more like I'm just going to be standing up more, really.
04:05 There's not many differences.
04:06 I may drop a little bit more, but I'm really just going to be standing up more.
04:16 Mikelli, you got a bunch of new offensive linemen coming in, Georgia signed six new guys.
04:21 What are you going to try to teach those guys when they come in?
04:25 The Georgia way I guess.
04:26 Like all the newcomers they're looking great.
04:28 They got a great way to go and they're going to be great players.
04:44 Yeah, alongside a bunch of new guys,
04:46 this is probably one of the first times in your career that you've gotten to face
04:49 against returning tackles and truss and Ennaris Green.
04:52 How excited are you to go against those guys again,
04:55 continuing to iron sharpens iron, so to speak?
04:58 I'm extremely excited because I've been here and we've been here for so long,
05:02 we kind of get to know each other's tendencies a little bit.
05:04 So we got to change up our game when we're going against each other.
05:07 Or it's just going to be iron on iron, like you said.
05:10 So it's great to go against those guys who know how you play,
05:13 so you got to switch it up on them.
05:23 I know Georgia fans kind of had their reaction when they saw Carson standing
05:26 next to a Lambeau.
05:27 What was the locker room reaction when you guys saw it kind of flex that way?
05:31 Yeah, man, we were happy for him, man.
05:33 He deserved it.
05:34 He worked for everything he was getting.
05:35 He won the Oil Prize.
05:37 I have to say he's one of the top quarterbacks in the country we feel like.
05:39 And he works for everything he's getting.
05:46 Mike, just an appropriate follow-up question.
05:48 How many guys have gotten to ride in Carson's Lambeau?
05:50 A few, quite a few.
05:52 Carson's a real big team guy, man.
05:55 He loves us.
06:03 Hey, Mike, in terms of playing some outside linebacker,
06:06 what got you excited about that?
06:08 Or what made you want to do that?
06:10 And just what do you like most about it?
06:12 It just seems like kind of a new challenge.
06:14 Yeah, so --
06:16 Yes.
