YEP rugby league writer Peter Smith reviews Leeds Rhinos' 22-16 win at Leigh Leopards.
Transcript
00:00 Well, to be honest I forgot to do my video review at Lee Leopard's after Leeds' win the other day.
00:10 So I've come to another stadium to do it and hopefully no one will notice the difference.
00:15 A fantastic win for Rhinos in the end who were second best for 50 minutes of the game.
00:21 Lee played really well in the first half and at the start of the second they were 16-0 up when a chance was missed.
00:29 It seemed like Umala Hanley had scored in the corner. The decision went up to the video referee as a try but it was overruled.
00:39 The on-field decision was overruled for a foot in touch. That was a tremendous tackle from Ash Hanley.
00:44 And that was the turning point in the game really. Leeds hadn't been into it up to that point but they seemed to take some belief from that and they came storming back.
00:53 One thing about this Leeds team, they're certainly not perfect but when they play some rugby and when they attack and it all clicks, they're very good to watch.
01:02 I thought Rhys Martin who must be the most underrated player in Super League, he was absolutely excellent down the left-hand side.
01:09 Brodie Croft really started to turn it on. Andy Akkers had a good game and what can you say about Ash Hanley?
01:15 Two more tries, that takes him to seven for the season in four games. He got 11 last year so he's closing in on that tackle already.
01:24 Leeds still have things to work on obviously. They were caught out defensively a few times and the discipline wasn't very good it has to be said.
01:32 12 penalties they conceded, they were only five. They can't afford to give teams that much extra possession but there are certainly things to admire about this current Leeds side.
01:43 I do think when the conditions improve and the grounds get harder they'll get better. There were some good signs from Lucky Miller on Friday.
01:51 He had his best game so far, a constant three, he bounces around and buzzes about. When the conditions improve and it gets a little bit warmer to suit him a bit more and the grounds get firmer, I think he's going to be a real attacking threat.
02:05 A precious two points, a very good winner. A game Leeds would have lost last season. That's two tight games, well three if you count the Catalans.
02:13 They've toughed out this season and so far things are going pretty well. They've got a lot of improvement needed.
02:19 There will be a big test against St Helens this week. We'll see how Leeds go. Some of the pressure is off with them having won three from their opening four games.
02:29 There's no reason why if they've got a decent amount of their first team players out there that they can't win this one.
