00:00 Building Minecraft is pretty much just putting some blocks together.
00:04 But making your Minecraft world look amazing and pop is something completely different.
00:08 Today I'm giving you 25 or more build ideas for your Minecraft survival world that will
00:13 increase the quality of both the aesthetic and the lore of your world.
00:18 Which means, I hope, it'll make it look loads better.
00:21 Let's get on with it.
00:22 And if something in this video inspires you, do let me know in the comments below, I'd
00:26 love to hear from you.
00:27 And the first thing I'm going to talk to you about is paths.
00:30 Now pathways are not just a way to get from one place to another.
00:33 Well, I suppose they kind of are, but they don't have to look rubbish.
00:36 But they can be anything from the odd pathway block with a bit of coarse dirt, to something
00:41 far more complex.
00:42 But what I think is really important is a path being fit for purpose.
00:46 So my first really big idea is path transitions.
00:50 So I'm out in the wilds of my world.
00:52 The pathways are going to be almost non-existent.
00:54 I've got just the odd path block, a little bit of coarse dirt every here and there.
00:59 But as I start to get into a little bit of civilisation, I bring in more path blocks.
01:04 So we transition from a few path blocks into just a few more, and with the odd little bit
01:09 of packed mud.
01:10 Because let's face it, packed mud is just dirt that's stuck together.
01:14 We've got a little step here coming up with some mud bricks.
01:17 And then we bring in a little bit of gravel as we move into a little bit more of a civilised
01:21 area.
01:22 That gravel brings another level of colour.
01:24 However, we're still living in some dirt.
01:26 We're still living in some grass.
01:28 We're still living in plenty of path blocks.
01:30 But then I bring in some mud brick.
01:32 We're transitioning again.
01:33 But you'll notice I've also brought in a few little fences as well.
01:37 Obviously, this is getting close to some kind of habitation.
01:41 And now there's stone.
01:42 We're bringing in a little bit more stone, more gravel.
01:45 The path is getting gradually more and more stony and more grey, and less and less muddy.
01:51 We've also brought in some other little bits that I'm going to talk about in just a moment.
01:55 In comes some other brick blocks, and we've got some moss in there as well, just to give
01:59 it a little bit of character.
02:00 Then we're turning from these fences that we had before into some walls.
02:04 And then we've got another path that turns into a proper road.
02:08 This is made exclusively of stone brick variants.
02:11 Cobble, stone bricks, stone, gravel, that kind of thing.
02:15 So you can see your pathway should match what it's being used for.
02:19 If it's coming into some kind of civilised area, a town, a village, you need to change
02:23 it up from just a few little path blocks.
02:25 You need to make it fit.
02:27 That is a seven stage path transition.
02:29 I think it works beautifully from coming out from the wilderness into a town.
02:33 Although every single stage deserves some bushes.
02:36 You can never have too many bushes.
02:38 Now I mentioned it a few seconds ago, but bringing in a bit of lore to your build is
02:41 a good idea.
02:42 This milestone, saying how far it is to the next town, is always a really good plan.
02:47 Any little points of interest like this always add to the aesthetics of your world.
02:51 And when you get closer to a settlement, you're going to want to get some lamp posts, especially
02:55 inside the settlement.
02:56 This is a really wooden, rustic one.
02:58 We've got a wood block there with a stone wall.
03:01 We've got a fence, four trap doors with a slab of wood there, and four lamps.
03:06 Really easy to do and you can repeat that with very few resources.
03:09 And then this one here is a little bit more stony, perhaps a little bit more at home inside
03:14 or just outside a settlement.
03:15 A block of stone brick with some buttons on it, wall, fence and wall again.
03:20 But up the top there, we've got a hopper making the connection.
03:23 We've got a slab on the top and we've got four of those trap doors, making sure that
03:27 it doesn't show the hopper too much.
03:29 But one of them is flapped up with a little lantern on it.
03:32 To add some points of interest along your country roads, bring in some abandoned campsites.
03:36 This one has got a fire pit.
03:39 Three of the four logs are still there, but the fourth one is completely burnt down into
03:43 a coal block.
03:44 We've got logs that they sat on whilst they were around the fire in the nighttime.
03:47 We've got barrels.
03:48 We have got a tent with a sleeping bag still inside it.
03:51 I wonder if these guys got chased off by mobs.
03:53 These are really quite simple to put together.
03:56 It's a little bit of a path going around a few stone blocks, putting some campfires that
04:00 are extinguished, sticking a cauldron, flap some trap doors over it, putting a composter,
04:05 some bushes and Bob's your uncle, you've got yourself an abandoned campsite.
04:09 Custom trees are also a great way of getting some life into your landscape.
04:13 They look so much better than normal trees.
04:15 And I've got four different options for you to choose from.
04:17 The first one's really simple.
04:19 Oak logs, a few spruce stairs and the odd spruce fence post as well.
04:22 Once you've got the fence posts in at the top, make sure that you put leaves around
04:26 all of those fence posts.
04:28 That will give you a really interesting asymmetrical shape.
04:31 And that symmetry is further broken by having these lanterns on different length chains,
04:35 which gives it a much more natural look.
04:37 The second custom tree is more like a willow tree with these fingers dropping down from
04:42 the canopy.
04:43 However, it is still very, very similar.
04:45 However, we've also added a few trap doors, spruce trap doors in a few places just to
04:50 give a little bit more texture to that bark.
04:53 I have also put a water bucket underneath the trunk of the tree, which has allowed me
04:57 to irrigate all around it and put in a little bit of wheat.
05:01 It just gives a little bit more colour.
05:02 More structure at the top means we can have a bigger canopy.
05:05 And I've also put these flowering azalea leaves in there as well to give it some extra colour
05:10 and a bit more texture.
05:11 The custom spruce tree is nothing more than spruce logs going up in a straight line with
05:16 some logs coming off just one block underneath and some spruce fence posts.
05:20 I've also put in some stairs and some trap doors at the bottom just to give the foot
05:24 of the tree a slightly bigger feel.
05:26 But then it goes up in a standard diamond.
05:29 You can see I've just placed leaves around in a diamond circle shape at the bottom, put
05:33 up a level ever so slightly smaller, left a gap and then come up a smaller level, left
05:39 a gap, smaller level and so on and so forth until we get to the top.
05:42 And it actually makes for a really gorgeous looking pine tree.
05:45 And then finally we've got a poplar tree.
05:47 That is just a fence post going up in a straight line, about nine posts coming out just one
05:53 level here and then putting leaves all around each side.
05:57 It needs to be fairly straight up and down.
05:59 You don't want it to be too fat at the bottom, otherwise it will look uneven.
06:03 Poplars are very straight and thin.
06:04 Maybe add some history off of your path.
06:07 Here we've got an overturned cart made of simply trap doors, nothing more.
06:11 These trap doors are resting on the ground.
06:13 These trap doors here are flapped up to form the base of the cart.
06:17 And also these oak trap doors give a nice wheel effect.
06:20 All these bits and pieces have just fallen out of the cart and it just looks like it's
06:24 been abandoned.
06:25 Any little detail like that just adds more to your world story.
06:29 Another great idea is to make natural cave entrances look like they've been exploited
06:33 by miners and yet ever so slightly overgrown that they've not been used recently.
06:38 Inside here I've got some support beams just made out of oak logs.
06:41 I've put some trap doors on the roof so as it looks like that's been lined up.
06:44 I've put in some smelting area here with furnaces and blast furnaces, a little bit
06:49 of crafting and plenty of storage but with barrels so as I can embed them into the wall.
06:54 You can create different looks using these leaves, these steps and also different types
06:58 of block.
06:59 We've got andesite, we've got cobble, we've got stone here.
07:02 I've kept away from stone brick because that's more man made.
07:05 This looks like it's been excavated out of the mountain.
07:08 As we go down I've placed in some coarse dirt, put some ferns on there so as it looks
07:12 like it's been overgrown.
07:13 I've left some of the ores in the walls because it makes it a little bit more interesting.
07:18 We've got some water and also some wheat planted up there for some different colour.
07:22 I've lit it up but not too much so it still looks like it's a cave and at the bottom
07:26 we've got a ladder going into this natural cave here.
07:29 Ponds and water features also make a massive difference to your world, not just in your
07:33 base or the surrounding area but out in the wilderness as well.
07:36 This one is literally just a hole in the ground.
07:38 I've lined it with coarse dirt and some gravel.
07:40 I've put in some bone meal, some sea pickles and also some lily pads, although you don't
07:44 have to put the sea pickles in, that's just an extra little bit of light.
07:47 You could put some light around it.
07:49 These fences here with some lamps on have got plenty of light to stop anything spawning
07:53 inside it.
07:54 I have however used the water from this pond to irrigate some farmland so as I can grow
07:59 up some wheat.
08:00 Again, it gives a much different colour and makes it a lot more interesting, as do these
08:04 haystacks.
08:05 And when you combine the yellow from the haystack, the green from the bushes, the blue from the
08:09 pond and the brown from those fence posts with a little bit of light, it makes for something
08:13 really interesting that would work in your base or literally anywhere in your world as
08:18 you're travelling around in it.
08:19 And you can do a much larger pond as well.
08:21 This one is surrounded by stone and dirt blocks and is a much bigger hole.
08:26 It's still lined up with gravel, coarse dirt, but this time I've also put in some slabs
08:30 and some steps just to soften up those edges because it is a much bigger hole.
08:34 This one is decorated up not with wheat like the last one, but with flowers and also some
08:39 sugar cane.
08:40 I put some bullrushes here using some green glass and some brown candles on the top that
08:44 work absolutely perfectly for that.
08:46 And we've also got a bit of a waterfall, a natural water source coming out of that block
08:50 at the top off of this naturally formed rock.
08:53 When I say natural, it's natural after I've built it, which brings me to something else
08:57 you might want to consider.
08:58 Rocky outcrops.
08:59 I know it doesn't sound quite right, but trust me, these things make a huge difference to
09:03 your world.
09:04 If you look around moors and plains in the real world, it's not just grass.
09:08 You've got rock sticking out of the ground as well.
09:10 And I've got four different designs you might want to think about.
09:13 This first one's quite small.
09:14 We've got some steps, we've got some slabs and we've got a couple of blocks.
09:17 There's literally very little to it, but as a result, it's given an extra feature on the
09:22 landscape that draws your eye.
09:23 This one's much bigger and incorporated in a little bit of course dirt so as it doesn't
09:28 grow grass over it and put some grass on top of it that I got with some shears.
09:32 It's exactly the same stairs, slabs, blocks using andesite, cobblestone and stone.
09:38 Do avoid stone bricks for these because they're manmade and these are natural rocks.
09:43 The third one has been adjusted a little with some manmade fences.
09:46 We've lit it up and it's a bit overgrown with some more bushes.
09:50 However, again, it is just slabs, cobblestone, stone, andesite and a few steps.
09:55 But what you've got to remember is that you don't just get rocks in the middle of fields.
09:59 You get lots of rocks on the shore.
10:01 So our fourth rocky outcrop is this rocky shore.
10:05 It's still structured in the same way.
10:07 Cobblestone, stone, andesite, slabs and steps.
10:10 This time however, I've used a little bit of the mossy cobblestone as well just to give
10:14 it as if it's got some moss and some weed stuck onto the rocks.
10:18 I've waterlogged a few steps in there so as we've got some rock pools and I think the
10:22 texture works really well.
10:24 If you were to lay this all along the shore, you'd have a very, very natural looking shoreline.
10:29 I've added some bushes so as it looks even more natural, but we have put some lights
10:33 on it too.
10:34 That way when you're coming in on a boat, you'll be able to see the shore.
10:37 Wait a minute, did I just say boat?
10:39 What a transition that was to the boats.
10:41 I've got three boats to show you.
10:43 Really simple designs however, don't get too excited.
10:45 This one is an oak boat.
10:47 It's just a small shipping boat.
10:49 It's got a sail on it, it's got a mast, it's got a light on top of the mast.
10:52 This is just literally made out of some fence posts and some wall.
10:56 I've put a button at each end so as it looks like it's rolled around a post.
10:59 We've got some trapdoors in here so we can load and unload as necessary and lights at
11:04 both ends so it knows where it's going.
11:06 Next up, we've got a tiny little spruce trireme and this one's got a sail that is made out
11:10 of banners, which I think works quite well actually.
11:13 We've got two lights at the top so people can see it, but this is literally just a load
11:17 of trapdoors around a single row of blocks with some stairs at the front and at the back.
11:23 So it makes for a great little boat just for a small one-man band.
11:26 We've got some rudders underneath it so as it doesn't tip over.
11:30 And then we've got a much larger trader's vessel here storing its oars, its barrels
11:35 and even a barrel of water there in that one.
11:37 It's much wider, it's going to have a lot more to store and as a result, it's got two
11:41 sails.
11:42 A sail, again made out of banners.
11:44 I've put more banners to make the sail slightly larger, but it is still just a mast made out
11:48 of fence posts with a light on top.
11:50 And then we've got our larger sail.
11:52 It's furled there at the bottom.
11:53 I know sometimes you can furl a sail at the top.
11:55 I don't care.
11:56 I furled mine at the bottom.
11:57 Buttons there to represent how it's been held in place.
12:00 And at the top, we've got a flag.
12:02 Top of the mast.
12:03 This mast is a lot more sturdy.
12:05 Some stripped spruce there going all the way up to the top until we've got our flagpole
12:09 there.
12:10 And then it's spread out sideways using more fence posts just to give a little bit of rigging
12:14 for that sail to be able to crawl up.
12:16 For harbours, rivers, lakes or even the open sea, you can do all kinds of boats and it
12:22 gives a lot more life to your world.
12:24 Let's look at two other ways to use water now.
12:26 A fountain and a well.
12:27 Now fountains don't always have to be in a town centre, but often that's exactly where
12:32 you'll find them.
12:33 This one is literally a tower of stone walls with a little end rod at the top just to give
12:37 a little bit of light.
12:38 I've then put in some steps and some slabs to make sure that this water here is kept
12:42 in this very specific shape that goes down into this holding area at the bottom.
12:47 We've got dryness in there with those slabs too.
12:49 The water's being held in place, but we do have light going up that water.
12:53 Trimmed with stone brick, it's really, really simple and you could change the palette for
12:57 pretty much any block.
12:59 Quartz works really well for this type of build.
13:01 And as for complexity, make it more flexible.
13:03 Putting more water sources, putting more slabs and stairs to make sure that you've got the
13:07 water going exactly where you want it to.
13:10 Wells can be a lot more simple.
13:12 This is just a three by three square here.
13:14 I've got some crack stone brick, some upside down stone stairs, and then we've got a wall,
13:19 a fence post and a wall going up to a diamond shaped roof.
13:22 I've suspended a cauldron, which has got water in it, by a chain over a hole that is fairly
13:28 deep.
13:29 Don't fall down it, you won't be able to get out.
13:31 And a light just on one side to add to some asymmetry.
13:34 Again, too much symmetry in the world is a bad thing.
13:37 A little bit is great, but if you make everything symmetrical, it just looks odd.
13:41 And speaking of walls, yeah, I know I wasn't speaking of walls, but I had to get into my
13:45 wall somehow, didn't I?
13:46 We've got this stone wall and all this is, is steps, slabs and blocks placed so they
13:51 are two blocks high, which means that they can't be attacked by, oh that one's not though,
13:56 I missed one, can't be attacked by mobs.
13:58 Mobs can't get over them.
14:00 So they're quite good just to roam around the countryside, literally going uphill, down
14:04 dale.
14:05 And it's quite a nice texture if you mix in a little bit of cobblestone, a little bit
14:09 of andesite and a little bit of stone.
14:11 And this time, because obviously it is man-made, you could also put some stone brick in there
14:15 as well.
14:16 But you can make these all kinds of interesting shapes and sizes.
14:19 You can make them taller, you can make them wider.
14:21 They work really, really well just to separate areas in your world.
14:25 And if you don't like stone, what about a palisade?
14:28 All a palisade is really is a load of wooden logs upended and sticking up out of the ground.
14:32 Don't do them in a straight line because they won't look so good.
14:35 Make sure you go in and out so you've got a little bit of depth and texture there.
14:38 Strip some of them, don't strip all of them.
14:41 Put a button on them, but put the button the same number of blocks from the top on each
14:45 and every one.
14:46 So the buttons go up and down.
14:47 This one is on the second block from the top on every one of these things.
14:51 And we've got walls and fences kind of scattered across the top with lighting.
14:56 You don't have to add the lighting if you don't want to.
14:58 And at the bottom, we've added some slabs and some steps.
15:01 Just because these are rocks, this isn't just going to come straight out the ground.
15:05 It needs to have a little bit of structure.
15:06 And I think that works really, really well, obviously, with a little bit of bushes.
15:10 And while strictly speaking, these could probably have a video for themselves, what's really
15:14 important to keep your Minecraft world looking fantastic are the walls around your structures
15:19 and your bases.
15:20 So I'm going to show you six wall designs.
15:23 First up, three in wood.
15:24 And this first section here, and bear in mind, any of these can be repeated for as long a
15:28 wall as you like.
15:29 This one is pretty simple.
15:30 We've got some oak struts.
15:32 We've got spruce coming out to give some depth.
15:34 We're using buttons.
15:35 We've also got a window.
15:36 I'm not using glass here.
15:37 I'm using fence posts to give that kind of old fashioned medieval rustic look.
15:42 And we're using trapdoors as window shutters.
15:44 This one is super simple.
15:46 But when you build it up across a number of sections, it looks absolutely fantastic for
15:50 a large house.
15:51 This second section has got more detail.
15:53 I brought in a barrel between the two windowsills.
15:55 And the windowsills are now grey stone brick.
15:58 It just gives another dimension, I think.
16:00 We've brought the overhang out ever so slightly more.
16:03 And we've incorporated things like bushes to give it a little bit of a natural feel.
16:07 And this design could work for an exterior wall of a building, but also maybe a wall
16:11 that goes around a village.
16:13 And then finally, this has got a lot more depth.
16:15 We've used some composters in the struts here just to give a different type of texture.
16:20 Two barrels, not as barrels necessarily, although you can use them as storage, just to add some
16:24 extra dimension to the inside of those struts.
16:28 We've done an extra internal level, so we've got a wall that is too thick behind there.
16:32 That gives even more depth to this build.
16:34 And this would definitely work as an exterior wall to a town.
16:37 I recommend that.
16:38 If you're going to use it for a building, remember the building has to be quite big
16:41 because you've got a very thick wall there.
16:43 But sometimes you need your walls to be stone.
16:45 So here's three stone wall options.
16:47 This is a really simple stone wall right here.
16:50 We've got normal stone brick with mossy stone brick as well towards the bottom.
16:54 And as we go up, we've got andesite and some stone just to give a bit of a gradient.
16:58 This is really an internal wall, I think.
17:01 We've got a barrel there for storage.
17:02 And then we've got across here, we've got shelving that's made out of these trap doors.
17:06 I really quite like the way that works.
17:08 You could put things on the trap doors as well if you want.
17:10 Rather than put the lanterns on those posts, perhaps you could put the lanterns on there
17:14 or put in some pots with some flowers if you wanted to.
17:17 Although that's probably out of place on what's probably an inside of a castle wall.
17:22 At the top, we've crenellated it up with upside down steps and right way round steps
17:26 to give that kind of indented effect.
17:28 And the crenellation continues right across the top.
17:31 The second one could actually be the external side of the first one we looked at.
17:35 We've got vines growing down over the window.
17:38 We've got storage in barrels, but really they just add a little bit more differentiation
17:42 of colour more than anything.
17:43 We've got a few lamps, some on some posts, some on top of those barrels.
17:47 And then we brought in a little bit of cobblestone just to change up the way it looks.
17:51 Otherwise, that stone brick is going to feel very flat.
17:54 And then finally, we've got some additional detail.
17:57 This has got a too deep wall, lots of extra depth, so it needs to go on a much larger
18:01 building, I think.
18:02 This could be internal or external, but perhaps lends itself to internal just a little more
18:06 with a hanging down lantern using a chain.
18:09 We have also got a barrel and a cauldron there full of water.
18:12 The shutters are on the inside, but the shutters could also be on the outside.
18:15 The window is three high rather than two high, almost like an arrow slit there.
18:19 We've brought in some blackstone buttons just to change up the colour just a little bit.
18:22 And we've got some carved stone brick in there as well.
18:25 Again, it gives a different texture and it's much more pleasing to the eye.
18:29 Incorporated a little bit of flat stone there in slabs, and it just gives a really nice
18:33 looking shape.
18:34 Don't underestimate the importance of the walls of your buildings and your structures,
18:38 because I'm telling you now, I promise it will make a massive step change in your builds.
18:42 And it's all very well me showing you these things in isolation, but it's when they all
18:46 come together that really make an impact.
18:49 Very recently, I did a village transformation video and used a lot of these ideas inside
18:54 that.
18:55 There's a link to how I did this and also how to get the world download for it in the
18:58 description below if you want to go and check it out.
19:00 I incorporated a lot of the ideas that I've been talking about for the last few minutes,
19:04 like this path transformation that we've got here.
19:07 I come from the outside through the gate into the inside and we've changed up the path block.
19:11 What I did here was actually increase the amount of path rather than decreasing it.
19:16 And then when I got further into the village, I put a lot more grey into it again.
19:20 So we've got that transition.
19:21 At the side of the path, I brought in some water feature.
19:24 We've got a harbour with boats out there floating ready to drop their wares off.
19:28 And I placed the rocky outcrops along the edge just to show that it is not just a flat
19:32 grass base.
19:33 There's a number of custom trees which add a bit of character.
19:35 The town centre has a fountain specifically designed for it, but we did also put in a
19:40 little well.
19:41 And at the other end of the town, we added more rocky outcrop against this second harbour
19:45 with a crane again, specifically designed for this build.
19:48 With lots of different wall designs as well that have got plenty of depth.
19:52 And whilst each thing in isolation is pretty good, when it all comes together, I have to
19:56 say I'm pretty proud of what I made here.
19:59 But it all came down to just using a few little different details, rocky outcrops, water features,
20:04 walls, that type of thing, just to give more character and to make it look more natural.
20:09 I really hope you got some great ideas out of this video that you can put into your survival
20:13 world and don't forget to let me know in the comments below if that's true.
20:17 And perhaps even send me an image through my Discord, through on Instagram or in Twitter.
20:22 You choose which way you want to do it.
20:23 I would really love to hear from you.
20:25 We'll call that there until the next ideas video.
20:27 I'll look forward to seeing you in the next one.
20:29 You take it easy now.
20:30 Bye.
