Bob Iger is pushing back on the idea that there's superhero fatigue. The Disney CEO was interviewed at a Morgan Stanley conference in San Francisco on Tuesday, where he was pressed about what he is doing to turn the film business around. The executive noted that they're doing a lot and even quietly cancelled certain projects. "...You got to make those tough calls. We've actually made those tough calls. We've not been that public about it, but we've killed a few projects already that we just didn't feel were strong enough."

00:04 The Disney CEO was interviewed at a Morgan Stanley conference in San Francisco on Tuesday,
00:09 where he was pressed about what he's doing to turn the film business around.
00:13 The executive noted that they're doing a lot and even quietly cancelled certain projects.
00:17 "You gotta make those tough calls.
00:19 We've actually made those tough calls.
00:21 We've not been that public about it, but we've killed a few projects already that we just
00:24 didn't feel were strong enough."
00:26 Iger also pushed back on the idea of superhero or franchise fatigue, saying that it was not
00:30 an accident that Marvel's first 33 films generated just under $30 billion at the box office.
00:37 "Focus is really important.
00:38 We reduce the output of Marvel, both the number of films they make and the number of TV shows,
00:43 and that really becomes critical.
00:44 But I feel good about the team.
00:46 I feel good about the IP we're making."
00:47 He added, "Not only do you look at the films you're making, you look at every part of that
00:51 process.
00:52 Who the directors are, who's being cast, reading scripts.
00:55 I personally watch films three to five times with the team and just create a culture of
00:59 excellence and respect, which is really important with the creative community."
01:03 On a related note, Iger also praised certain projects on Disney's 2024 film slate, including
01:08 the upcoming Inside Out and Moana sequels, and also the big Marvel release of the year,
01:12 Deadpool and Wolverine, which Iger predicted will be one of the more successful Marvel
01:16 movies we've had in a long time.
