00:08 Hi friends, I am Rita
00:10 Today I am going to talk about gadget addiction
00:12 Have you ever found yourself in situations where you are doing some work
00:17 and suddenly there is a beep on your phone
00:19 and you find yourself reaching out to the phone to check on what has come on your phone
00:24 So, is this a normal behavior or am I addicted to my phone
00:28 and what does the child who is there in my environment
00:32 what does he learn
00:33 He might feel that it is a very normal behavior because he sees his parent
00:37 reaching out to the phone at every beep
00:40 He doesn't know that we are addicted, he feels it's a normal behavior
00:44 So, am I nurturing a gadget addict at home
00:47 So, if you look over the internet you will find that there are lot of researches which have proved
00:52 that gadget addiction can have harmful effects
00:56 emotionally, physically and mentally on the child
01:00 We must have visited many restaurants and found out that there is a very big family sitting
01:05 having dinner together but they are physically not together because
01:09 the kids are busy on their gadgets watching videos or playing games
01:13 They are not physically interacting but they are virtually interacting
01:17 Am I seeing a virtual personality getting developed in my environment
01:21 who wants to make friends only online but doesn't want to physically
01:26 interact with the real outside world
01:29 So, as a parent how do I keep the gadget addict
01:34 and the gadget addiction at bay
01:37 How do I do that
01:38 So, first and foremost thing I think we can do is
01:42 we ourselves have to watch our action
01:45 Am I always on the phone
01:47 If yes, the child will accept it as a normal behavior
01:50 So, let me first set a right example by not checking my phone at every meal
01:55 and make a limited usage of my gadget
01:58 I know it is difficult but with practice this can be resolved
02:02 Second, let's try and take our child for outdoor activities
02:06 because if the child is at home he will need to fidget with something
02:10 So, it's better to get involved with him in some outdoor activity
02:14 In this way you will be able to bond with your child
02:17 plus your child will learn to play apart from the gadget
02:21 Third thing, if your child is small
02:24 you can subscribe to a local library or a toy library
02:27 where you can get creative games at home
02:29 and spend some quality time with your child
02:32 again which will help in bonding with your child
02:35 You can also involve your child in some indoor games like chess, carrom board, cards
02:40 or some art activities or craft activities
02:43 In this way you will be able to spend some quality time with your child
02:47 Also, what I do with my child is that I have not kept the gadget very accessible to the child
02:54 We have fixed a day and a time that you will get on a Saturday only for 20 minutes
03:00 So, the day is fixed in this way I have been able to reduce my child's screen time
03:06 and he has been able to bond with people in his environment
03:10 and I see a big change in his growth also
03:14 If you have a child who is a toddler or is into the 0 to 5 category wherein
03:19 we parents are very inclined to make them learn through videos
03:24 because there are nice, fancy, creative, colorful videos
03:27 If for every learning we switch on the video
03:30 this will get the child addicted to it
03:33 and might hamper his real learning
03:36 So, let's try to find out different creative ways for them to learn
03:40 rather than making them learn through videos
03:44 I hope these tips will be helpful to you in building a healthy and sound personality of your child
