House of Commons leader Penny Mordaunt has criticised Labour for provoking chaos in the chamber on Wednesday night, after speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle allowed a Labour amendment on a Gaza ceasefire to be voted on – instead of the SNP motion. Speaking the following day, Mordaunt has told her Labour shadow Lucy Powell, "I would never have done to him what the Labour Party have done to him." Report by Covellm. 00:00 Two significant things happened yesterday, and I'm not sure all honourable Members have
00:06 clocked. Firstly, it fell to the Government Benches to defend the rights of a minority
00:14 party in this House. If the honourable Lady opposite cannot bring herself to reflect on
00:25 the appalling consequences of her party's actions yesterday, if she cannot rise above
00:33 the narrow and immediate needs of her weak and fickle leader, to fulfil her duties to
00:42 this House as its shadow leader, perhaps she might like to reflect on the damage her party
00:49 has done to the office of the Speaker. I would never have done to him what the Labour party
00:58 have done to him. We have seen into the heart of Labour's leadership. Nothing is more important
01:08 than the interests of the Labour party. The Labour party before principle, the Labour
01:15 party before individual rights, the Labour party before the reputation and honour of
01:23 the decent man that sits in Speaker's chair, the Labour party before fairness, integrity
01:32 and democracy. In Rochdale, the Labour party before a zero tolerance policy towards anti-Semitism.
01:43 Many of us knew this about the Labour leader. I saw it in his frustration of our country
01:50 getting the best deal possible when we left the EU. The Labour party before country.
