00:00 The HBCU Legacy Bowl is coming up and Doug Williams and
00:04 those guys are putting together another great installment of this Legacy Bowl.
00:11 We have 100 young men that will be a part of this on Team Gaither as well as
00:16 Team Robinson.
00:18 Last year, you were a partner and you're a partner again with the Legacy Bowl.
00:23 Talk about that experience last year and
00:25 how did you feel about everything going into the game and coming out?
00:30 >> Well, first I was honored and I'm always thankful to be affiliated with
00:37 Doug Williams and James Shaq Harris and the great things that they do for
00:42 the athletes for HBCU programs and HBCU Legacy Bowl.
00:47 So I just was grateful being able to hang out with numerous greats who play for
00:53 HBCUs and really anytime I'm around those old heads, I call them the wisdom heads.
01:00 I just sit there and I listen because they have so much wisdom.
01:05 They have been through so much that I can't compare with.
01:08 So I just sit there and I listen and I learn from what they tell me.
01:14 But just the experience of being a chance to get it,
01:16 getting a chance to see the players play, see the players compete.
01:20 I'm so happy and grateful that great men like Doug Williams and James Shaq Harris
01:26 are continuing to break down those barriers and
01:28 give these players opportunities to show off their talent level.
01:32 >> Yeah, yeah, definitely.
01:34 When these guys first started the HBCU Legacy Bowl,
01:38 it was a vision that most people didn't really buy into initially.
01:44 But when they did buy into it, they got to see the bigger picture and
01:47 how it has impacted these guys in their lives.
01:51 We've had quite a few of those young men, not only to go to the NFL training camps,
01:57 but they also were able to go to XFL and USFL to play as well.
02:02 What advice would you give these guys going through this draft process?
02:06 I know it's been a few years since you went through it, but
02:09 what would you tell them how to handle this whole process?
02:14 >> One thing I would tell them is just to embrace this process.
02:18 I think it's a very important time in their lives and
02:21 you don't have one second to take it for granted.
02:24 So be grateful for where you're at.
02:26 Don't look at where someone else is and just focus on your process.
02:29 I believe that we all have our unique paths to where, really,
02:33 our unique path and unique will where God has planned for us.
02:37 So trust in that.
02:39 Do not trust in your own understanding.
02:41 Do not pay attention to your conditions, circumstances, and facts.
02:45 Just focus on controlling what you can control and
02:48 taking advantage of this excellent opportunity that has now been providing
02:52 players that play for HBCUs outlet or platform to showcase their talents.
02:58 Because a lot of people can say what they lack, but man,
03:02 this HBCU Legacy Bowl gives a lot of opportunity and a lot of,
03:07 I would say it opens a lot of doors for our young athletes that are dominating
03:11 HBCU football.
