Pancake Day traditions were upheld in Scarborough yesterday, with plenty of flipping and skipping in the resort.
The seaside town has long-held a pancake race, which usually starts with the Mayor of Scarborough ringing the pancake bell at noon to start the activities on North Street.
Yesterday the honour went to Councillor John Ritchie, this year’s Mayor, with crowds brandishing their frying pans and pancakes battling it out to be the best flipper and runner in the race on Aberdeen Walk.

00:14 Ladies, gentlemen, and children,
00:20 I warmly welcome the Honourable Charter Mayor of Scarborough, Councillor John Ritchie,
00:30 who will start our Shrew Tuesday celebrations of pancake racing and skipping by ringing the pancake bell.
00:41 In order for this to take place, I need you all to join me with a countdown of five.
00:49 Are you all ready?
00:51 Yes!
00:52 Are you?
00:53 Yes!
00:55 Five, four, three, two, one.
01:01 God save the King!
01:04 [Bells ringing]
01:16 Here we go then, it's serious, this is it, it's neck and neck.
01:20 Those poor animals, they've really been through the nook today.
01:24 And we're doing press-ups, we're doing skips, and we've finished.
01:27 Give a big cheer, everybody!
01:29 A little twirl from Silly World.
01:31 These are going to be, no doubt, really high scoring for both teams.
01:36 They're having a great time out there.
01:38 It's almost like they've forgotten they're trying to win this at the moment.
01:40 So all about entertaining the crowd.
01:43 Costa Rica's slowest heat, but any of the hurdles they've gotten, they're increasingly higher as they go along.
01:49 And now, get the ball between the legs.
01:51 The ball's totally disappearing from that Costa Rican water care group.
01:54 Keep going guys, this is really, really impressive.
01:57 It's neck and neck at the moment.
02:00 So, Scarborough Hall with a good start, a little bit of surfing from Dexers.
02:05 They're dressed for the beach.
02:07 They'll look great on the South Bay Beach skipping later.
02:12 Still just in the lead, baby.
02:14 Scarborough Hall, a bit of juggling going on there.
02:16 Not sure how well it went, but it was certainly entertaining.
02:19 Alright, and off we go then towards the hurdles. Here we go.
02:24 Certainly in terms of speed, North Yorkshire Water Park have the edge.
02:28 Not only are Dexers carrying pancakes, but also the bodyboard.
02:33 They're doing a bit of bodyboarding there as they're surfing, actually, on Aberdeen Walk.
02:37 A couple of those waves, they're pretty bad when the wind blows from this direction.
02:42 And they're already actually heading towards the ball at the back.
02:49 It's a good lead at the moment, but Foundation are catching up nicely.
02:54 Alright, so we're going through all of the obstacles at the back there.
02:58 And it's nearly time to swap over.
03:01 And it is. And here we go, team number two for McDonald's.
03:05 Trying to drop the pancake.
03:07 Boys absolutely storming through, taking out most of the obstacles as they go.
03:12 And a chance maybe for Coastal Childcare to catch up.
03:16 Really eager there with the juggling balls.
03:19 Alright, the everyone active team will have to quickly get them all back in place again.
03:23 Alright, now they're catching up with Coastal Childcare.
03:26 [crowd noise]
