We take a look at some of the most famous rom-com locations around London and reveal secrets of the lesser known ones too.
Transcript
00:00 It's nearly Valentine's Day and some people will be sitting down to watch rom-coms.
00:05 And when you think of romantic comedies set in London, Notting Hill has to be the first
00:09 one that comes to mind.
00:11 So where else to start than the film starring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts.
00:16 142 Portobello Road was used as the travel bookshop but these days it's just a store
00:22 that attracts thousands of tourists and it's pretty hard to miss.
00:27 William Thacker's flat with its famous blue door can be found in West London.
00:32 The interior of the flat was actually filmed in the studio so is nothing like the film
00:36 but the home was apparently owned by Richard Curtis once upon a time.
00:42 Today the flat is valued at £5 million and the original blue door is long gone after
00:47 being auctioned off for charity.
00:49 However a blue replacement was put in place to keep tourists happy although in true London
00:56 fashion it has been graffitied on.
01:00 Often in the Bridget Jones diary films the area around her flat looks quite quiet however
01:05 in real life the opposite is true.
01:08 In actual fact the front door of her flat is the front door of a pub, the Globe Pub
01:13 in Borough Market and although she frequently hails down taxis it might be a little bit
01:18 more difficult to do that right here.
01:21 At least she has got some brilliant food options on her doorstep though.
01:26 Another iconic romcom filmed in London was Sliding Doors starring Gwyneth Paltrow and
01:31 commuters might have a Sliding Doors moment themselves when they realise it was filmed
01:36 at Waterloo station.
01:38 Although set at Embankment the Tube journey was in fact filmed on the underground at Waterloo.
01:45 Now Run Fatboy Run is not the most iconic romantic comedy although it is a great film
01:51 and seeing as though it's about a man running London there are quite a few London locations
01:56 in this one.
01:58 The Gherkin building a famous landmark in London is actually where Simon Pegg's character
02:03 works.
02:05 And having completed his run the finish line is right here at St Paul's Cathedral another
02:11 renowned London location and one that also features in this film.
02:17 Now it's about time we talk about time.
02:20 This classic stars Dom Gleeson, Rachel McAdams and Bill Nighy.
02:24 Having recently moved to London Dom Gleeson's character walks past the iconic Abbey Road
02:30 Studios and then finally arrives at his new house.
02:34 Meeting his new flatmate for the first time played by Tom Hollander the flat is technically
02:39 not in St Johnswood as the film suggests but actually in Queen's Park.
02:44 The famous house is on Bronsonbury Road.
