Edgar Barrera on Being The Only Latino Songwriter Nominated, Success of "un x100to" & Working With Peso Pluma & Karol G

Edgar Barrera caught up with Billboard's Tetris Kelly and Rania Aniftos at the 2024 GRAMMYs.

00:05 I'm really excited to see a bunch of artists and bunch of friends from the industry and I'm just happy to be here

00:10 And talking about the friends you're nominated for so I mean you've worked with so many legends

00:14 I've Peso Puma, Grupo Frontera, Carol G. Like how exciting was it to work on these projects?

00:18 I mean, I'm just honored to be there like their guy their go-to guy and

00:22 I'm very happy and honored

00:25 I just saw Peso earlier right now and he's really excited working on the new album right now and and yeah

00:31 Carol G is also around there and excited to see her again

00:34 And I think Latin music especially in the past five to ten years have been having a global impact more than ever

00:40 What do you think it is about Latin music that connects with people so much?

00:43 Yeah, well, I think it's mainly because like the Latin community is growing everywhere

00:47 We're more and more Latin people here like for example in the US

00:51 And I think it's reflecting also in the music that we are listening to and and I'm just part to be part of that community

00:57 Yeah, and what's gonna happen when you win?

01:00 Hopefully I win I mean, I'm excited crossing fingers if I if I don't win

01:06 I'm already considered like I'm just happy to be here because I'm the only Latin songwriter nominated and I'm the only Latin

01:12 nominee on the general category

01:14 So for me, it's already an honor to be here representing and as a songwriter when you think back on all these like songs and hits

01:20 You work on with these artists, which one do you feel like change the game for you and represent?

01:23 For me this past year. I think it was important to end up by front that I'm bad bunny

01:28 that was a game changer for for the music a Mexicana and

01:32 Having bad bunny, you know

01:35 Help us out get our music out there to the world. I mean it was number one everywhere YouTube Spotify

01:41 Apple music

01:43 And for me that was that was like a huge huge huge song. Well bad money's not a bad co-sign
