The Canal & River Trust has launched a campaign call to volunteers to help it keep Yorkshire's network of historic canals alive. With changing weather and more storms, support is needed more than ever, they say. And the roles could be as lock keeper or painter, or operating a swing bridge. Video by Canal & River Trust

00:00 Come and join us as a volunteer. It's a great way of meeting people, local communities and
00:07 actually exchanging friendships.
00:09 One of the nicest things about volunteering is the sense of camaraderie that you get with
00:13 other volunteers. It's not just a question of working in the outdoors, it's actually
00:17 doing it alongside nice people.
00:19 I love it. It's fresh air, exercise, we have a great time. There's no end of opportunities
00:24 for all types of individuals.
00:27 I think it just helps with my general health and wellbeing. It's a good way to relax and
00:33 it's a good way of giving something back to the community as well.
00:37 The canals are a brilliant national resource that if they're not maintained then they're
00:41 going to fall into disrepair and I think it's important to keep them for future generations.
00:47 Without our volunteers we can't keep the canals alive.
