00:00 Well folks, there it is, Royal Enfield's 2024 Shotgun 650.
00:05 This is a new mid-size custom cruiser from Royal Enfield out of India.
00:11 It is based on Royal Enfield's 2023 Super Meteor 650 that it introduced into the Americas
00:18 for the 2023 model year.
00:22 Now this motorcycle is powered by Royal Enfield's tried and true 648cc parallel twin.
00:31 This engine is air cooled and oil cooled.
00:34 It features an overhead camshaft and an eight valve cylinder head.
00:39 It has a six speed transmission with a cable actuated wet clutch that puts power back to
00:46 the 17 inch rear wheel via a chain final drive, which you can see right there.
00:53 This engine configuration is good for right around 41 horsepower at the business end of
00:58 that 17 inch aluminum rim.
01:01 And this engine is good for right around 35 pound feet torque, again, at the business
01:06 end of the tire.
01:08 Now this motorcycle just looks awesome.
01:12 I love the lines of this bike.
01:14 I love the proportions.
01:16 When it comes to styling, Royal Enfield really nails proportions of their bikes.
01:21 Everything looks to size.
01:24 This motorcycle feels like a real motorcycle.
01:28 It's 540 pounds with 3.6 gallons of gas, which is kind of heavy, but in motion this motorcycle
01:36 feels way more agile than its curb weight would lead you to believe.
01:42 And we'll talk about that in our review.
01:44 Look at that LED headlight.
01:46 Yes, I love LED headlamps, but Royal Enfield, why did you skimp on halogen bulb turn signals?
01:53 Why we want LEDs, at least there's a nice bright LED out back.
02:01 Now this particular shotgun 650 is only for one rider.
02:06 There are passenger foot pegs and you can install an accessory seat if you want to bring
02:11 a passenger.
02:12 This motorcycle now benefits from a Showa inverted BPF generation fork.
02:19 BPF, Showa suspension technology is over 12 years old now, but what I really like about
02:25 BPF technology is it allows for a real big damping piston.
02:31 That allows this fork to have really good response over bumps and pavement imperfections.
02:38 There is no adjustable damping or spring preload, but we've had really good experience with
02:42 the Showa BPF suspension on other motorcycles.
02:46 Here is twin shock absorbers that mount directly between the subframe and the swing arm with
02:52 no linkage.
02:53 That fits the entire vibe of this motorcycle.
02:56 This bike also comes with a center stand.
02:59 How cool is that?
03:01 That eases maintenance chores for all you tinkers at home who want to do some customizing
03:07 and wrenching on this bike.
03:11 Single disc brake up front with a 320mm rotor with BYBRE.
03:18 That's a Brembo subsidiary out of India.
03:21 Their axial mount like this out back.
03:24 We have a slightly smaller 300mm rotor with a single piston caliper again by BYBRE.
03:30 A Brembo owned subsidiary in India.
03:34 Look at the fit and finish on this motorcycle.
03:36 That's one area Royal Enfield has really improved in the last few years.
03:41 The paint on this motorcycle is awesome.
03:45 It's nice and shiny.
03:46 There's barely any orange peel.
03:48 It looks awesome.
03:50 And then the black powder coat finish on the frame, on the headers, on the swing arm.
03:56 It looks nice and durable and tough.
03:58 I really like the fit and finish on this motorcycle.
04:01 If there was some knock, I would say some of these fasteners like right here, they could
04:06 be of a little bit more high quality.
04:08 That fastener right there.
04:09 Why is this plastic label on this clutch cable?
04:14 That should be gone too.
04:16 But the Royal Enfield does come with nice stainless steel braided brake lines which
04:22 I really like.
04:24 There's the instrumentation.
04:25 It's a little bit basic but everything is where you need to see it.
04:29 Speedometer, gear position, and trip meters and a clock.
04:33 There's also Royal Enfield's handy turn by turn navigation system.
04:38 To use this, you have to Bluetooth pair your iOS or Android enabled smartphone with Royal
04:44 Enfield's Tripper app and it will give you turn by turn navigation right there on the
04:49 display.
04:50 How cool is that folks?
04:52 Royal Enfield hasn't announced the pricing on this vehicle at the time of recording this
04:58 premium 4K video but expect this motorcycle to cost right around $7,000.
05:05 Well folks, that wraps up our official preview on Royal Enfield's 2024 Shotgun 650.
