Cody Gakpo and Curtis Jones couldn't help but chuckle when they saw Jordan Pickford's erratic goalkeeping at a corner against Liverpool in a match from 2018.

The two Liverpool stars were asked to rank the club's best cup goals from recent years ahead of their clash with Fulham in the Carabao Cup semi-final.

A clip from January 2018, which shows Virgil van Dijk beating Pickford to the ball to score on his debut in the FA Cup third round against Everton, had them mildly amused.

Van Dijk rose above the crowd to head in the winner after 84 minutes, with Pickford in no man's land after charging off his line to try and claim the cross.

'What is the goalie doing mate?' asked Gakpo, sniggering.

'What's he doing? What is he doing?' asked Jones in disbelief, growing amused.

Van Dijk's late goal in front of the Kop separated the sides as Liverpool won the 230th Merseyside derby 2-1.

James Milner had put Jurgen Klopp's side ahead before Gylfi Sigurdsson equalized for the visitors.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain whipped in the corner, but Pickford looked caught in two minds about whether to come for it and was too slow as Van Dijk towered above the throng and headed into the empty net.

Jones only wanted to rate the goal as average because of Van Dijk's physical prowess.

'Look at the size of him,' he said. 'To me, I would put it down as average because of the size of him, you would expect him to win headers in there. But because it's Everton and it's his first game...'

'I think it's a good goal, mate,' decided Gakpo.

Both Gakpo and Jones featured in Liverpool's latest cup encounter, as Liverpool booked a Carabao Cup final at Wembley against Chelsea after beating Fulham 3-2 on aggregate.

Liverpool drew 1-1 at Craven Cottage on Wednesday night. Luis Diaz had opened the scoring after 11 minutes, but Issa Diop grabbed a leveler for the hosts after 76 minutes to set up a nervy finish.
