00:00 JT Thor, look, I don't have, he was borderline to be included in the 10 and 60.
00:05 He made the cut.
00:06 Um, I have one stat that I want to share about JT Thor.
00:11 Oh boy.
00:11 The selling point for JT Thor is right.
00:14 Disruptive defender, 6'10", 6'11", long arms.
00:17 Like he can, he can get, you know, he can switch, he can be active.
00:21 He's averaging 0.6 deflections per game.
00:26 Right.
00:28 To put that in perspective, Nathan Mensah is doubling him up at 1.2.
00:33 Brandon Miller, the rookie is at 1.5.
00:35 Lamela Ball leads the team at 2.8.
00:37 As I mentioned earlier, that's 15th in the NBA.
00:40 Like if you're JT Thor and you can't do anything on offense, like your,
00:45 your shot isn't good enough.
00:47 You can't put the ball on the deck.
00:48 You can't pass the ball for sure.
00:49 And you're not a monster strength.
00:52 You're not grabbing a bunch of rebounds.
00:55 At least you want to show some value as like a disruptive defender who can
00:59 cause some turnovers, who can use your length.
01:01 And look, there has been some signs of life from a horrid, horrid start to
01:06 the season in recent times.
01:08 He's had some, some courses, some games where he's looked better, but like you
01:12 look at the full body of work, it's still like borderline, well, not even borderline.
01:17 There are people playing in the G League better than JT Thor right now.
01:20 That's just a fact.
01:22 Now they might not be as young as he is.
01:25 They might not have the measurables that he has.
01:27 But at like some point that only gets you so far.
01:31 So I agree.
01:32 He's still probably shown enough that like, I think his option got picked up
01:36 earlier in the season for next year or didn't get turned down.
01:39 So I think they like the kid.
01:41 They like his work ethic, but I still don't think he's showing enough to be,
01:46 you know, to be, to show that he is going to be part of this long-term core.
01:50 His offense rebounding has improved in recent games.
01:53 Like that's one thing that has improved and that's actually been like helped him
01:57 get to the rim a little bit more because he's got some points, but that's been the
02:01 only real focus I can really say is offensive rebounding has been better as of late.
02:05 But JT, you have to start being more disruptive as a defender.
02:09 That is your selling point.
02:10 And it's just not, it's not being impactful enough right now for
02:13 you to be a contributing player.
02:14 I have not held much stock in JT Thor for quite some time now.
02:21 And to accentuate your extremely scary defensive stat, I've got one offensively
02:27 as well, the appeal of him as an offensive player, right?
02:30 Coming out of Auburn was somebody that could shoot really well, had nice, smooth
02:34 mechanics for like a 6'10" lefty, had a little bit of off dribble juice.
02:38 Do you, I want you to take a guess at what his effective field goal
02:43 percentage is this season right now.
02:45 What do you think it is, James?
02:48 Uh, 42%.
02:51 It is 40.4%.
02:54 And that is factoring in that three point shots are more difficult
03:00 and worth more points than twos.
03:02 So he is essentially barely above a 40% shooter when factoring in the difficulty
03:08 of threes, which again is one of the more high volume attempts that he takes.
03:13 And it's supposed to be the appeal of him as an offensive player.
03:17 So I've just found a stat that trumps everything.
03:20 Oh my God.
03:21 Do you want to guess how many free throws that JT Thor has hit this season?
03:26 Oh no.
03:27 Three?
03:31 Uh, you are correct.
03:34 He has three free throws for the season.
03:36 Attempts for the season.
03:39 He is at, uh, for the whole season, he is at seven attempts.
03:47 For the entire season.
03:48 Uh, how many, how many minutes has JT Thor played in total?
03:51 452.
03:53 Dog.
03:54 I hate doing this, but that is like egregious for an NBA player.
03:59 That's like an athlete.
04:00 He's like, by all means, a good NBA athlete.
04:03 He's 6'10", relatively strong, fast, mobile for his position.
04:07 There's no world in which a player that is built like JT should only draw seven
04:14 free throw attempts in almost 500 minutes.
04:19 That is just, that is astounding.
04:21 Genuinely.
04:22 Like, I genuinely agree.
04:24 If you gave the team like a fake, if you just put us in place of JT and gave
04:29 the team a fake scouting report, we, I think we would, I'm obviously kidding,
04:32 but like, God damn, that is, that is egregious.
04:36 That is so, so, so low.
04:40 I mean, Nathan Mensah has drawn more free throws than that.
04:43 I would almost guarantee.
04:44 I haven't even looked, but there's no doubt in my mind that Nathan Mensah
04:47 has taken at least seven free throw attempts this year.
04:51 Yeah.
04:52 Yeah.
04:53 He's Nathan Mensah's nine for 12 from the line.
04:56 So on top of generating more, he's shooting a higher percentage.
04:59 And Nathan Mensah was averaging eight points and eight rebounds per
05:01 game in the G league two months ago.
05:04 So yeah, the verdict I think is out on JT Thor, unfortunately.
05:09 I don't see much in the way of upside anymore now that he's halfway through
05:14 his third season, unfortunately.
05:16 Yeah.
05:16 He would be a guy that I could completely understand new
05:19 management coming in and going.
05:20 Yeah.
05:21 We don't have time to wait for this kid.
05:23 Like he might be something eventually, but like this team is like, say lacks depth.
05:28 And this is one of the reasons why is because there are a bunch of young
05:31 players on this team who are not good enough to play in the NBA right now.
05:35 So when there are injuries and they're called upon, the team stinks.
05:38 So we have to like, this isn't the situation for JT Thor right now.
05:45 It's just not.
05:45 And it sucks to say, because he was supposed to be a part of what was a
05:51 very high hype up, high expectations draft class in 2021, but by all
05:56 means has not come to fruition.
