00:05 Bank of Twins suite, it's a great arena for boxing and we've got a four fight
00:08 card, first fight of the night here Jack Bagnell against Konstantin Alexandrov
00:16 this is a six three minute round fight, I'm Chris Maylatt I'm joined on
00:21 commentary by Dan Murray and Harvey Hudson, there's not many fights Dan, first
00:27 fight start at 10 o'clock at night, yeah not many fights Chris but looking
00:31 forward to them, we've got some good fights to look forward to and Jack
00:35 Bagnell from what I've seen from him in the past he's an action fighter
00:39 he comes forward he takes risks and he's usually entertaining fights and he's
00:45 in here against Konstantin Alexandrov if I've got that right and on paper it
00:52 doesn't look like too much of a tricky fight for Jack but he does pull off
00:56 the odd upset so Jack's got to stay switched on here and he's just got to be
01:00 a bit disciplined and I know we want to put a performance on for the crowd and
01:04 get him going but he just needs to think about this, 4-0 is Jack now as a pro
01:11 doing well in his fights and impressing he has a good following behind him
01:16 and Harvey you're from Leeds you know Jack and you've been to a couple of his
01:21 fights before as well so he's a bit of a crowds favourite and definitely a
01:25 prospect from the area to look out for yeah definitely and he is a very
01:29 exciting fighter he comes forward and he takes risks which obviously doesn't
01:34 impress his coaches sometimes because obviously he might be out boxing his
01:37 opponent but he's willing to take them risks and it does make for an exciting
01:42 fight sometimes. He's started good here Chris, he's started positive I like how he's
01:48 using the jab and he's just keeping Alexandrov at bay I think Alexandrov's
01:52 one of those sort of fighters that if you give him a bit too much respect if you let him
01:56 into the fight it can be a hard night's work but Jack's just started off very
02:00 nice he's working the jab well and he's having a good look at him like I think
02:03 he should do. I like his style and me and you we like good
02:09 boxing, he's got a nice style, good jab, tuck centre of the ring, nice boxer. He's a
02:15 nice aggressive fighter, he comes forward, nice solid jab and like
02:23 anything when you see a young fighter coming through and using that jab it's
02:26 usually a good sign and I like that he's aggressive, I like that he takes risks but I
02:30 also want him to tighten up a little bit like he's showing here really, he's showing
02:34 quite a mature performance so far so when he does move up through the levels
02:38 he can continue to give us the exciting fights. Nice little body shot there, you see
02:44 he's landed a couple of nice little body shots, little jabs downstairs. Yeah he's
02:50 landing that jab and he's pulling back so he's showing a bit of maturity there.
02:55 Like you said Arman here, Constantine, he's been in how many fights he's had, he must
03:06 be knocking on hundred now I'm sure. Yeah it must be 70 or 80 and like I say
03:11 every now and again he'll pop up and get a victory so you've got to stay switched
03:14 on but fantastic opening round here from Jack, I think a perfect opening round
03:19 for him and very impressed, first time seeing him live and very impressed with him.

03:27 Mark Bateson there in Jack's corner, Harvey, you know mainstay and one of the
03:35 men behind the rise in boxing in Leeds over the last few years.
03:40 Mark, you know his son's here topping the bill tonight but you know they're always
03:44 putting shows on here, they're always keeping Leeds boxing going on the small
03:47 halls and you know putting on shows like this in Leeds, it's great isn't it?
03:51 Yeah definitely and he'll have a wealth of experience as well, obviously doing
03:57 the corners of his son and other fighters from the area.

04:21 Round number two. Just watching Jack there at the start of the round, he's up on his toes, it looks like he's enjoying it now and what a
04:30 fabulous platform for him to perform on, Chris, it's a sold-out venue,
04:37 fantastic production and he really looks like he's enjoying himself.
04:44 Nigel Bent here tonight as well, Dan, one of our favourites there, he's at the back
04:51 there, he's done a speech tonight as well so good to him to come down as well, it
04:55 was, you know it's all going on, it looks like a packed house, a lot of spare
04:58 ticket in the house. Yeah it's great, it's great for obviously the fans to get
05:01 to meet him and if they can get pictures in but also for the young fighters as
05:05 well, surely they've probably got some time with Nigel and got some advice off
05:08 him and like we say what a fighter Nigel was, give us many many
05:13 nights and also a wealth of experience for these fighters to tap into and
05:17 obviously talk to.
05:20 I mean Constantine, you know he's not offering too much back and at the
05:27 moment you know Jack's been able to get his punches off, would you like to,
05:31 obviously second round here, he's getting the rounds in, learning fighters,
05:35 you know four fights in, experienced opponent, what do you like to see a young
05:40 prospect, Dan, doing these situations? For me it's not about for Jack to go in there and
05:46 blast him out, I want to see Jack get the rounds and most people here, they want
05:50 Jack to go and put a show on and take his guy out but I think about his
05:54 development in six fights time, ten fights time and I just like to see him go
05:58 about his work as he is now, off the jab, nice and measured and not take too many
06:03 risks, he's got a reputation of taking risks and sometimes making fights harder
06:07 than what they need to be, so when I see a fighter at this stage of the career,
06:11 I'm looking for maturity, I'm looking for them to have good defense, a good jab and
06:15 then you can work off that.
06:19 He's doing a great job here because Alexandrov, the reason he's on the back foot and he's
06:24 not offering much, is because what Jack's doing, Jack's showing a good array of
06:28 shots, he's jabbing well, he's working the body well and I don't think Alexandrov
06:33 wants to get involved too much, he's a fighter that likes to keep busy and I
06:38 don't think he really wants to engage here with Jack, because I think if he
06:41 engages with Jack, he'll have a very tough night.
06:45 Very impressive him. Fun fact about the opponent Alexandrov, he's been in with
06:50 Nathan Heaney and obviously his performance last week, Belta. Yeah, yeah, he
06:57 has been in with Nathan Heaney and he's been in with a lot of prospects
07:01 over here, he's from Bulgaria and he finds himself on them flights very
07:06 regularly over to the UK, he's tried and tested. So he's seen it all really hasn't he?
07:12 He has. Well look, we had one a fight Nathan Heaney the other night, that was
07:17 Denzel Bentley, some fighter, to beat him like that. End of round two.
07:25 seconds out round three round number three of this six-round contest
07:55 here in Leeds. Jack's starting very well again, he's looking like he's really
08:01 growing in confidence now in there and we're just talking the previous round
08:05 about some of the opponents that Alexandrov has been in with and that is
08:09 why Jack needs to take the approach he's taken, he needs to be cautious, he can't
08:13 go in and try and blast him out, it's a nice measured performance so far.
08:19 It's his first six-rounder as well so he's got to slow down a bit and take it
08:24 steady because he's going to be in unknown territory soon. Jack's got a
08:29 perfect record, he's had the four fights, he's undefeated, he's not had any
08:33 stoppages yet but I can see how he's going to get stoppages I think as he
08:37 steps up in the rounds, like you say this is his first six-rounder, more six
08:41 rounders he has, eight rounders, ten rounders, twelve rounders, I think he's
08:45 going to start wearing his fighters down. And he looks strong doesn't he? Looks
08:49 like he has got the power, big legs on him, he's got good stance. Yeah he's solid and I
08:54 think with the body work and his solid punching I think that as he goes into
08:58 the later rounds of his opponents he will start wearing them down, I think
09:01 he'll start stopping them and also it's difficult for a fighter because when you're
09:05 fighting someone like Alexandrov, they're quite closed up, they're very experienced,
09:09 you can't really get many shots through and when you do get a shot through, they
09:13 know how to cover up, they know how to spoil. So when Jack comes against a
09:19 fighter that starts throwing shots back, there'll be more openings for him, more
09:22 chances for him to counter. But look just now Jack's just going through the gears a
09:27 little bit as well. He's found some gaps there through the guard and he's looking
09:30 to go to the body, a nice left hook to the body early on there in the round.
09:34 It's about trying different things isn't it Harvey and you know and like
09:38 you said it's first six rounder, go through the gears as it goes on. Yeah
09:42 definitely, he does need to go through the gears and you know with them four
09:46 round fights, it's a completely different ballgame really isn't it and he needs to
09:51 keep his engine high and keep going through the rounds.
09:57 And on your local lad Harvey, so you know you see the local news and the
10:03 names coming through, are people looking to Jack here, are people
10:08 hearing his name around the gyms and knowing he's a prospect to look out for
10:11 in the area? Yeah definitely and like I was saying to you before, his last fight
10:15 and he had a lot of support there, a hell of a lot of support to be honest with you.
10:18 There's a nice stiff jab there from Jack. Just really highlighting how much of an
10:24 exciting fighter he is. Do you know what, I've been impressed with his arsenal of
10:29 shots but especially the jab. Yeah lovely stiff jab. You know a lot of the jab
10:37 you sometimes, you know it can be a rangefinder but it's also can be a very
10:42 very important weapon and you know we've seen some fights end on the
10:46 jab, some very famous fights. And he's got a good variety in his jab, sometimes he's doubling up, sometimes sticking it to the body as well.

10:59n Seconds out, round four. Round number four here at Helen Road, it's Jack Bagnall
11:27 against Konstantin Alexandrov. It's a six three minute round fight and this is the
11:31 opening bout of the evening.
11:35 We're impressed with Jack Bagnall tonight, he's going through his
11:40 repertoire of shots, he's got a very experienced opponent in front of him but
11:45 he's looking good and he's showing us something different every round
11:50 as well isn't he Dan? He's picking up as he goes on in
11:56 these rounds. Yeah it's a very mature performance and I think he'll learn a
12:00 lot from this, I think he'll learn you don't need to over complicate, you don't
12:04 need to get into wars with these guys, you break them down systematically behind
12:08 the jab, which is what he's doing and like you said there about his repertoire of shots,
12:11 he's got a really nice repertoire of shots, he's working the body, he's working the
12:15 head, the jab we've spoke about many times, we're impressed with. Also he's feinting
12:20 really well, he's trying to draw that lead. Now there's that right hand again, he
12:25 has got a couple of them ones in and Jack has to get a lift up a little bit
12:31 there but he's always in there, you know this is like we say
12:35 experienced opponent. Yeah I mean Jack's making it look quite quite easy but
12:41 this fight could be totally different, if Jack didn't use his jab as effectively
12:45 as what he's using it and he stood down out of the fight, this could be quite
12:48 a difficult fight. He's timed that jab a few times there really,
12:53 it's almost like a right hand, he's walked straight into it as he's
12:58 thrown it hasn't he? Yeah it's a ramrod jab is that, a stiff jab. And you can see
13:03 why he's got good support, he's a come forward fighter, he's a very likeable guy,
13:06 he's a come forward fighter, he's an action fighter and he's wanting to give
13:10 that entertainment to his fans and to the crowd. He's definitely someone
13:16 we'll be looking out for, he's got all the attributes to do well, obviously
13:22 this is only his fifth fight. Yeah and that's what makes it so impressive
13:27 because he's got a reputation as someone who takes risks and wants to have a
13:31 fight but a fifth fight as well to be showing this level of maturity, very
13:35 impressive. Yeah and star referee Michael Alexander tonight has not had much to do
13:39 has he? No it's been quite a clean fight really hasn't it?
13:45 Michael Alexander, ref, you see him everywhere don't you, all over the
13:50 country in these big fights but he actually lives around the corner
13:52 doesn't he from here, am I right in saying that? He's a Leeds man? Yeah I'm pretty
13:57 sure he's local. He's definitely Yorkshireman.
14:00 Jack, 26 years old, he's got plenty of time, you don't need to rush him, you can
14:08 develop him at the right pace, step him up when he needs to be stepped up. Harvey, do
14:12 you know anything in the background of Jack? No. Damage to career or anything? Yeah I know
14:17 he's from Leeds and obviously he trains with Jack Bateson who's headlining
14:21 tonight, he trains with Ishmael Davis who's had some success recently on the

14:36 Seconds out, round five. It's round number five for this super middleweight contest

15:23 He's in unknown territory as well now Jack, never been to the fifth round before

15:36 Just every now and again Alexandrov shows signs that he could be a bit of a
15:50 handful of you is allowed to get into the fight. Every now and again he'll put a shot in
15:54 but like say Jack's just really enjoying himself now, he's really warmed into the
16:01 fight hasn't he, he's using the jab perfectly. Yeah and maybe as he steps up
16:09 the rounds the knockouts will come because of his style and maybe he
16:14 hasn't had the chance to really showcase that yet, we've only been in four
16:17 rounders. I think so, I think when he starts stepping up and people start
16:22 throwing shots at him there'll be more openings, he'll be landing clean and then
16:25 obviously he'll have the rounds so he can start wearing people down, he can
16:29 start taking their energy away from him because like we said in the previous
16:33 rounds he looks like a stiff puncher, he's got a good array of shots and I
16:37 like how he's feinting, he's looking for the shots, he's not just
16:41 walking in there crash-bang wallop, he's feinting well, he's moving well and he's
16:44 looking for the openings. Yeah it's tricky isn't it, you know when the
16:50 opponent's not, you know he's throwing the odd shot now and again he's
16:53 standing there but like I think you're right Dan, you know when the
16:56 opponent is throwing back he looks like he has got a, you know he's got a good
17:00 jab, he can do the distance but I think his feet as well, he's got a good
17:03 sense of the distance, it's just that tricky, he just throws the odd right hand
17:07 you know and he's tucked them a few times the right hands but I
17:12 think like you say someone who's there and is throwing back I think because
17:17 you can see the power is there with him. Yeah and I think what makes it a good
17:21 fight and a good learning fight for Jack here is that Alex Androv every now and
17:26 again he's throwing his shots and it's a reminder to Jack you've got to stay
17:30 switched on and Alex Androv himself I mean he's probably not got too much
17:36 power but he's a stiff puncher so it'll be enough to keep Jack honest and
17:40 keep him sharp as well.

19:06 work that Jack's done he's fought an excellent fight. You can see here he's

19:15 said there an uncharted Teddy today is that right hand again just to let him
19:18 know he's still there. Yeah which is good I want Alessandro to offer something in
19:24 the fight to keep to keep Jack honest like I say and give him something to
19:28 work on but he's really really enjoying himself here Jack and you know we say
19:34 it's uncharted territory but he looks like he's got a good engine on him I
19:40 think he could go eight rounds couldn't he? Yeah he looks fit as a fiddle
19:44 doesn't he? First fight is 2021 he had a couple in 2022 and this is second
19:52 fight of 2023 it's all about keeping busy as well isn't it Dan you know young
19:57 fighters you can't be a stagnant period they've got to keep learning all the
20:02 time stay in a gym as regular fights as possible. Absolutely when you're starting
20:08 out you're still learning the game you're still learning your style you're
20:11 improving all the time you want to see him out there you really want to see him
20:15 get that momentum together as well.
20:18 Starting to land the bigger shots now. Yeah he's come out with a little bit more
20:26 vigor he's fighting the last round I feel fit you know like you said uncharted
20:33 territory but you know I feel alright I'm gonna go in there the crowd have
20:36 pumped it up again so finish here from him maybe. He looks fresh doesn't he?
20:42 He looks fresh so I think he's passed the test of having the six rounds.
20:48 In Leeds we've had Josh Warrington haven't we you know leading the way for a few
20:54 years Jack Bateson has you know been coming up he had a great amateur career
20:58 other fighters in the area you know coming up your Leeds is looking for
21:02 another era aren't they to come through? No 100% and you know the gym that these
21:07 lads are in Jack Bateson, Jack Bagnell, Ishmael Davis there's a lot of young
21:12 talent coming through there and and they'll be looking to steal the shows.
21:17 And it's testament because you see the crowd that's turned out tonight it's a
21:22 fantastic crowd it's a fantastic venue and it's because of these guys in the
21:27 ring it's because they're bringing the excitement. Getting a good finish here.
21:34 I like these shows, dinner shows and everyone sat down all dressed up.
