Browns GM Andrew Berry spoke about Nick Chubb's importance to the team, his impact this season and how they'd like to have him back despite his contract expiring.

00:00 >> You mentioned tough decisions that you're gonna have to make, or
00:03 probably one of the most difficult is Nick Chubb coming off that injury.
00:07 Cap savings versus being loyal to a fan favorite and outstanding player.
00:12 Just where's he at in his recovery here and
00:16 just your thoughts on that particular situation?
00:20 >> So with Nick, I probably came into this year,
00:25 let's say on a scale of 1 to 10 in terms of respect for Nick Chubb, it was a 10.
00:31 And probably coming out of this year, it's now a 20.
00:34 Nick, you would have never guessed that Nick was out for
00:38 the season with how he operated within the building.
00:41 I mean, it was like he was doing two a day practices for rehab.
00:47 And I remember, quick story, we were in LA for the Rams game and
00:51 he was in the player suite, I happened to pop up in there.
00:55 And the suite, it's humongous, first of all, it might be 30 yards in length.
01:01 And he was walking to go get food, but it's a pretty long walk.
01:07 But he wasn't using his crutches.
01:08 And I was like, Nick, are you being stubborn?
01:10 And he's like, no, it actually feels pretty good.
01:13 I was like, Nick, if you're supposed to be on your crutches,
01:16 you should be on your crutches.
01:16 Well, we come back from the trip.
01:18 And then the next day, Dr. Booth, they had put out this tape,
01:22 because they were going to just test how he was.
01:24 And they're like, no, officially, he doesn't need to be on his crutches anymore.
01:27 He had walked the whole thing, it was normal.
01:29 And I share that, he's still very early in his rehab process.
01:33 But the tenacity at which he has attacked his rehab,
01:38 he did everything in his power this year to heal himself,
01:43 but also make a positive impact with the team.
01:47 Culminated, you guys know he's not a super talkative person, but for
01:51 him to do the whole Batman thing in front of the Jets game,
01:54 it's like he wanted to do everything in his power to help the team win.
01:58 So I would, in terms of Nick moving forward,
02:02 obviously I understand that's a little bit the elephant in the room.
02:06 Nick, I can say for myself, no one in the organization I understand our family.
02:10 Nobody wants to see that Kerry in Pittsburgh be the last time he carries
02:15 the ball for the Cleveland Browns.
02:17 And obviously there are things that we'll have to work through, but
02:21 that would not be our intention as well.
02:23 We obviously will work to keep him on the team.
