00:00 Here's today's Derbyshire Times video bulletin.
00:04 Derbyshire Dales District Council has ordered the immediate closure of a pedestrian route
00:08 in Matlock used by schoolchildren, after discovering serious structural concerns in the churchyard
00:13 wall that runs above it.
00:15 The authority announced yesterday that it is to carry out temporary emergency works
00:19 to protect the public, after surveys revealed an instability in the retaining wall of St
00:24 Giles Cemetery.
00:26 The wall sits on top of a steep rocky ridge above a single lane road.
00:31 Although it is a cul-de-sac for traffic, it is a key cut-through between so-called 'Old
00:35 Matlock' and the Newtown centre, particularly for students headed for Highfields and St Giles
00:40 Primary Schools.
00:42 A council spokesperson said "It means Stoney Way, which links Knowlston's Place and Church
00:47 Street, will be closed off until a safe pedestrian access can be set up, hopefully next week."
00:55 Raven retailer Next has given an update on the reopening of its Chesterfield store.
01:00 The shop on Ravenside Retail Park has been closed since the middle of October after the
01:04 premises and nearby businesses were flooded following torrential downpours.
01:09 A spokeswoman said "The shopfit team are working on the store reopening and we can
01:14 expect this to be within the next six months."
01:16 Next is staying on the retail park, putting paid to speculation on social media that the
01:21 business might be moving back into the town centre.
01:24 The spokeswoman said "When it comes to relocation, this is not something that we have any plans
01:28 for."
