00:00 Hello there, welcome to your Thursday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:04 Stepping outside this morning, yet again it's bitterly cold.
00:08 Watch out for ice as well as snow showers.
00:10 Now these snow showers will be frequent across the north of Scotland, Shetland as well as Orkney.
00:15 And here we do have an amber warning with a further 20 centimetres of snow and drifting abroad.
00:20 Snow and ice warning extends towards Northern Ireland, West Coast of Wales, the West Country,
00:25 as well as the eastern side of England.
00:27 It's pretty much the distribution of the showers either side of the country,
00:30 running down the coastal districts in particular.
00:33 So through the morning, yes it is bitter outside.
00:37 Those snow showers will be frequent across the north with an icy wind.
00:40 And ice will be a feature of the weather as well.
00:42 Temperatures are that low.
00:44 For Northern Ireland, one or two showers running in.
00:46 A mix of rain and snow along the coast, but inland you'll see some snow showers.
00:49 And some across Irish sea coast, certainly Pembrokeshire seeing a few.
00:53 And you can see one or two just clipping the north coast of Devon as well as Cornwall.
00:58 Towards the east there, along the North Sea coastline,
01:01 you will continue to see those wintry showers which will run down towards Norfolk through the day.
01:06 So there are weather warnings in force, but wherever you are, it's very cold outside.
01:12 At least though, with a light wind from the central belt of Scotland, down the spine of the country.
01:17 Not feeling too bad.
01:18 If you wrap up warm, you'll see some good spells of sunshine.
01:22 Always more clouds associated with these snow showers.
01:25 And a bit of a breeze along this east side, north coast of Northern Ireland, west coast of Wales.
01:30 And certainly that relentless wind just delivering further snow showers through the day.
01:35 Across Northern Scotland, pushing in across the Highlands as well as Aberdeenshire.
01:39 Here are your temperatures.
01:41 No surprise, temperatures struggling today.
01:43 Where you see the snow, they're going to be sub-zero.
01:46 Through Thursday night, tonight and into tomorrow, it's pretty much a repeat performance.
01:51 A subtle change in wind direction will deliver more showers to Scotland on Friday.
01:56 And as you can see through the early hours,
01:58 they are gathering a mix of rain and snow along the coastline.
02:01 In land though, you'll see some snow.
02:03 There's a snow warning in force for more snow cover as we head through the day on Friday.
02:08 Sub-zero temperatures, as you can see, a penetrating frost yet again.
02:12 Clearer skies towards the south to start the last of the working days this week.
02:17 Yes, it's a clear day.
02:18 It's a cold one, but with some sunshine.
02:21 Now, across Scotland, you'll see a mix of those wintry showers, snow over the higher ground.
02:25 There'll be frequent, a stronger wind here.
02:27 Some brighter skies for Northern Ireland, rather hazy sunshine.
02:31 But brighter weather extends from North Wales down towards East Anglia as well as the southeast.
02:36 And here, temperatures are notched up on the last few days, four or five degrees Celsius.
02:40 The air turns relatively mild on Saturday.
02:44 We'll see some showery bursts of rain extend across the country.
02:47 And then it's really Sunday where we watch as a deep area of low pressure
02:50 extends from the Atlantic, pushing across the country.
02:54 Here's your wind warning on Sunday.
02:56 Damaging winds, gusts along the coast could reach 17 miles an hour inland, 50 to 60 miles an hour.
03:02 And it would be windy even towards more southern and eastern areas.
03:05 I'll see you later.
