Martin Dempster previews the Dubai Desert Classic from the Emirates Golf Club
Transcript
00:00 Hello it's Martin Dempster the Scotsman Golf Correspondent here coming to you from the
00:06 Emirates Golf Club in Dubai venue for this week's 35th edition of the Hero Dubai Desert
00:13 Classic. The defending champion this week is Rory McIlroy who won the event for the
00:20 third time 12 months ago after coming out on top in a thrilling last day duel with Patrick
00:27 Reid. McIlroy's rivals on this occasion include the Open champion Brian Harman, fellow American
00:34 Cameron Young and some of his Ryder Cup teammates from Rome last year including Tommy Fleetwood
00:43 who pipped McIlroy for victory in the inaugural Dubai Invitational at Dubai Creek last weekend.
00:52 Eight Scots are in the field including Stephen Gallagher who a decade ago became the only
01:00 player to win this event back to back. Stephen's now 49, he's preparing for the crack at the
01:09 PGA Tour Champions Tour next year after he turns 50. He's looking in great shape and
01:18 this is a place that always seems to bring out the best in the Bathgate man. The other
01:23 Scots in the field are Richie Ramsey, Ewan Ferguson, Grant Forrest, Connor Syme, David
01:29 Law, Callum Hill and Scott Jamieson who did well to hang on to his card at the end of
01:36 last season. This is always one of the great events on the DP World Tour. It's a great
01:42 set up here, the players love it. There's been a lot of work done over the last few
01:48 years on the green, the greens around the Majlis course and all the players including
01:55 McIlroy reckon it's in its best shape for some time. Great four days ahead, keep in
02:02 touch with the Hero Dubai Desert Classic by buying the Scotsman or logging on to Scotsman.com.
