Rescue dog just wants everyone to love her
Transcript
00:00 It's heartbreaking wondering where she came from.
00:02 She was found as a stray, but she
00:05 was so affectionate that told us that she had to have
00:08 come from a home at some point.
00:10 I'm Jen, and this is Shrimp Story for GeoBeats.
00:14 My husband and I adopted Shrimp three years ago
00:17 from a rescue called Wags and Walks in Los Angeles.
00:20 When she was rescued, she was severely
00:22 underweight for her size.
00:23 It's really hard to imagine the situation where
00:25 she was out there.
00:28 When we brought her in, she seemed
00:30 to adapt to our home, our layout, our life immediately.
00:35 We have what's like a mini zoo here.
00:38 The most recent addition is a bearded dragon.
00:43 Fred Savage is his official name.
00:45 He's the quiet one, the gentleman of the family.
00:49 And somehow, you can tell he's like the brains
00:51 behind the operation for the whole family.
00:55 He loves and trusts shrimp.
00:57 He will hop on her.
00:59 She is particularly warm, and he loves a good, warm surface.
01:04 And she seems to really like it.
01:07 It's just a nice little exfoliation for her.
01:09 I have a dog named Wilbur.
01:11 He is going to be 11 years old this month.
01:14 Our favorite thing to say is, this is Shrimp's man.
01:17 He doesn't necessarily like it.
01:19 He didn't ask for the title, but this is her man.
01:22 So if you ask Shrimp, is that your man,
01:24 she will actually kiss his ears and just love all over him.
01:28 I have a guinea pig named Fat Lou.
01:38 She was a rescue, and she's approximately five years old.
01:42 Fat Lou is Shrimp's best friend.
01:44 It is so precious that she has this vision of Fat Lou
01:49 as if they are the same.
01:51 She thinks they're the same size.
01:54 She thinks that they're just a couple of gals
01:56 that just hang out and play.
01:57 Shrimp.
01:58 [SQUAWKING]
02:00 Give her space.
02:01 Fat Lou is far from afraid of shrimp,
02:09 but I'll always keep an eye on them just in case.
02:13 Shrimp is what I think of as a gentle giant.
02:17 She has a head that looks as though it
02:19 could burst through walls, and this exaggerated lip
02:23 that you can't understand.
02:25 You can't keep your eyes off of this big juicy lip that
02:28 kind of protrudes from her face.
02:30 We call her Moose from time to time.
02:32 She is a petite 93 pounds.
02:35 I feel like only brave people come over to our house.
02:38 You walk in, you have Wilbur demanding the attention
02:42 and recognition, and Shrimp is waiting for you to sit down
02:47 so she can climb on you, kiss your face, sit on your lap,
02:50 and get all in your space.
02:52 You really don't have a choice.
02:54 And typically, at least once or twice a day,
02:56 we do have our little salad time where they all share veggies.
03:01 So if we do that and somebody is over,
03:03 it's interesting to see people react to it.
03:06 It's so normal to me at this point
03:08 that I forget how strange it is to see
03:11 all these weird creatures.
03:12 More than anything, to see two big dogs eating lettuce,
03:15 wanting to eat lettuce, excited to eat lettuce,
03:18 and to do it alongside a guinea pig and a bearded dragon.
03:21 It means the whole world to me.
03:28 Every day, I can't believe the situation that I'm in
03:31 where these really unique animals,
03:35 all different personalities, should not be getting along
03:37 with each other, but they genuinely love each other.
03:40 And they've built this life together that just makes sense.
03:43 And you can't imagine it any other way.
03:44 [MUSIC PLAYING]
03:48 Ma'am.
03:50 I have to say I was a little bit nervous seeing big shrimpos
03:55 and nervous initially just to make sure
03:57 that we were going to provide enough space
03:59 and the right kind of life for her.
04:00 She is the most happy, go-lucky, sweet, bubbly gal.
04:08 [MUSIC PLAYING]
04:14 She comes across as a very innocent, sort of dopey gal.
04:19 She likes to mimic everything that I do.
04:21 You need makeup, too.
04:22 So if that is me putting on makeup,
04:25 she wants me to put makeup on her.
04:27 Oh, pretty princess.
04:28 But usually, she is a daddy's girl.
04:31 She loves staring into his eyes.
04:37 My husband is definitely shrimp's favorite person
04:39 in the house, without a doubt.
04:40 I know my place.
