00:00 The showcase area of the Paseg River Urban Development Project in Manila was just rented.
00:08 It's not only a beautification project, but it also aims to help in transportation and tourism.
00:15 Ivan Mayrina is right here. Ivan!
00:18 Yes, good evening Vicky.
00:24 Look at what I'm building. You might think it's a European project.
00:27 But I'm just standing here next to the Paseg River Development Project.
00:32 This is what they call the showcase area.
00:34 And just a while ago, a beautiful and grand fireworks display took place.
00:40 It lasted for almost 5 minutes.
00:42 This is the official opening of the showcase area of the Paseg River Urban Development Project.
00:49 President Bongbong Marcos is leading the construction of the 500-meter showcase area of the Paseg River Development Project.
00:56 It's part of Executive Order 35, which was issued last year for the rehabilitation of the Paseg River.
01:02 It's intended to be a bridge for transportation and tourism, and to help the economy.
01:09 In three years, the project will be completed and will connect Manila Bay and Laguna de Bay,
01:14 which has a 50-kilometer walkway and bike lane.
01:17 There will also be a central park, which I'm still trying to remember, which is called Marcos Park.
01:24 According to the SHUD Secretary Jerry Acuzar,
01:27 the P18 billion fund for this project will come from the private sector that will build businesses along the project.
01:35 First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos is leading the fundraising of the fund for this project.
01:41 Up to 10,000 informal settler families will be able to participate in the project.
01:45 The plan is to transfer them to two large housing projects that will be built for them.
01:51 In her response, the President of the Philippines expressed his full support for the Paseg River Development Project
01:57 to use its potential for the economy, transportation, and tourism.
02:03 Sound check. Sound check.
02:05 The transformation we would like to see in Paseg River are not cosmetic in nature.
02:14 We will not paper over the river's fundamental problems,
02:18 nor whitewash its grime while leaving the old and rotten still there.
02:23 We do not want a river that is instantly made picturesque by coats of paint.
02:28 We want a river whose transformation sinks to its very bottom.
02:33 Meanwhile, for our fellow Filipinos who want to see what I call the "Europe feels,"
02:43 this is where I stand, behind the Central Post Office.
02:48 The front part of the river is in Paseg.
02:50 From here, I can see the Joseph Bridge.
02:52 On the other side, the MacArthur Bridge.
02:54 This is open to the public.
02:55 It is just right that the weather is still a bit cold and it is good to walk around during this time.
03:00 Vicky?
03:01 That is an experience.
03:02 Thank you very much, Ivan Mayrina.
